My son had this beautiful table, very much like this one, that he didn’t want. I reminded him constantly that I want it when he got one to replace it. It’s now in my possession and I can’t wait to get started on it!

To me, it's equally pleasing to see you restore something as it to make something new. Obviously, Festool, Titebond etc. were not around when this table was made. thks look forward to the next part.

I am very impressed in how you made the wood panel straight by just cutting a slot in it and pressed it down with another piece of woodstrip. That is very ingenious👌👍. First time i see somebody doing it and i am subscribing to many other woodworking channels. (Not that they dont know or use this technic...i just havent seen any of that in their videos. I made a few desks for my daughters and some of the wood is warped upwards and i keep screwing down but now i know a better trick...cut a slot in it to release the tention in the wood....thank you for sharing

Great work, nice video, great tools and skills. Not exactly my idea of a restoration project but more like making a new table out of the salvageable parts of an old table, a family heir loom. I hope those who cherished your grand father's table recognize it as such when it is completed.

I understand restoration as seeking to preserve the character and patina a item has aquired in it's life. That is where skill lies.

You disassembling was nothing short of BRUTAL!!! OMHOSH!!! I could hear the wood screaming!

Finally, I see someone use blue masking tape like this! I use it around apoxy restorations outdoors all the time.

Sure looks like a most appricate peace of work by the people that owned this peace.

My grandmother had a dining table that same basic design. Turned legs,with the x brace. I remember it was oak and aside from a gold band painted around the outside edge of the top it just had a clear finish thatd yellowed with age. An uncle of hers or her husband was said to of made it,an oak rocker,and a slant top writing desk she had. She passed in 2000 at 82 years old and all her belongings were sadly lost when her house burned shortly after. She was the glue that held the family together and we enjoyed many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at that table.

Those are so amaizing tricks to straigten wood

In the days when wood furniture was made of wood, it could always be repaired and refinished. What I like here is the oak - after re=planing - is more seasoned than before, and the finished result may last even longer than the original.

A darker wood stain (like mahogany or similar) would look better. It would be closer to its original look. That's my opinion. Thanks for sharing it. It was great.

It was amazing at how many nails was in this table. I understand this was your grandfathers table. You can see it was well used n loved. I alwa liked these type of farm tables as they had a drawer or like yours it had 2. Looking forward to the conclusion of this beautiful old being restored. You work differently to other restorers I have been watching, using a slot and epoxy instead steam/heat to make the panel straight; and chiselling off the glue after it has dried... This is both interesting and refreshing, so I have subscribed! I hope you and your family are safe and well. I have Ukraine flags on my gate to let refugees to England know we support them. It is hard to decide to give a sympathetically small restoration or full blown one in the case of the table I go would have done a full repair and replacement of woodworm peace’s as they had gone to far treated the rest of the timber looking forward to seeing the next one on this table. Yes it is old but not an antique it is at the end of the day a family peace that your grandad will be proud off.take care.😀👍

Me recuerda lo mismo que hicimos mi esposo y yo en el 95 con una mesa que mi madre abuela me compro en el 65 para que fuera mi tocador ya que en ese tiempo estaba estudiando belleza 💇 cabe decir que esa mesa hermosa era antigua de esas torneadas di época..tenía sus cajones con agarradera de bolita (todo era madera sólida como esa) En la parte de abajo tenía también como una plancha también torneadas en los bordes... Bueno, la historia la comparto porque en verdad las cosas llegan a tener un valor más que económico y ese fue mi caso....😔 En el 74 me caso y mi mesa se queda en casa..pasan los años y mi madre como era mayor tiene que venirse a vivir conmigo y todo lo regala , entre ello la mesa,que se la da una tía . Yo le dije que me la hubiera dado ya que yo la consideraba mia.... Entonces muere la tía y vamos a su velorio y que creen amigos....😔 Antes se acostumbraba que parte de la cocina y los baños se hacía afuera como los lavatrastes.. Y voy viendo mi mesa en la interperie como parte de lavatrastes ahí arrinconada en la humedad totalmente... Sentí que me dolió el alma al ver esto 😢😢 Entro corriendo a preguntar si era la mesa de mamá ..me dijo mi otra tía que si era...y casi me leyó el pensamiento .."la quieres hijta? Y así la recupere ,pero al moverla casi se desbarató, porque estaba echa con clavos y estos se habían podrido totalmente.. Así que con mi valiosa carga nos dimos la tarea de restaurarla y armarla, finalmente la barnizamos y quedó muy hermosa , esplendorosa...era mi gran tesoro...en ese tiempo eran los noventas..a los treinta años volvía a tenerla...tenía la mesa como setenta años de antigüedad....era y es mi tesoro más valioso amigos porque cada vez que la miro me recuerda cuántos se sentaron para que yo hiciera mis prácticas en casa... Ahora ocupa un lugar exclusivo en mi recámara como escritorio...después de estar tirada a la interperie ahora dentro en piso alfombrado... Tien mucha historia mi mesa de cien años... Next time you encounter a nail that has been in wood a long time and is difficult to remove Hold a hot electric soldering iron the head for a couple of minutes. It expands the nail and breaks the bond with the wood when it cools it is so easy to remove Also works with screws
