Love the fo’cs’l design- can’t wait to see it finished. We have the same problem with our 1978 32 foot trawler’s v-birth. We are moored in Point Roberts, but live on the Canadian side of the border - hope we see you and Geordie out there some time. Cheers!

Good video, and good setup. Fuses between parallel batteries wouldn't hurt. In the event of one cell breaks on one of the parallel batteries this battery will draw a huge amount of current from the other battery. Because of this huge current draw, a lot of heat would be generated. This could end up with a battery explosion and acid spreaded all over the place.

Nice to have you back doing technical arranging, and detailed repairs. Great job getting to the bottom of poor workmenship. It is most satisfying to see the corrections no matter how complicated the fix is. Thank you for the great enjoyment you give us watching you work.

I was lost during most of this one. All those bus bars and fuses and switches. Good to see there's a fire extinguisher nearby. Good luck getting it done before the cruise.

Some Swedish curses might be useful: "Jaevlar", "Fan" and "Skit ocksoe" (The "ae" and "oe" replaces Swedish letters Ä and Å)

Hi Peter. . A top tip is to connect you house batty bank so the loader is across the whole bank. Negative and positive connected to the center battery terminals or positive at one end and negative at the other rather than from the battery at one end.. This prevents the batteries becoming un equalised over time. You may have done it right but I couldn't see figure it out.. good luck on your cruise. . Living the dream..

Welcome back and hope you have good time with your vacation and spend quality time with your daughter. Don't forget to add breath vent for batteries to breath plus cool off when the batteries charge create heat and acid gases escape also for the age of batteries will smell of sulfur or rotten egg like. Keep up good work Smile!!!

First thing I learned when I bought my boat was to keep my batteries separate. Always had one full for starting, though being a sailboat I could have just sailed away from the dock or mooring. Always hated sort out the messes left by others.

Glad to see you back. I admire the ability you have to keep all that wiring straight in your head. You are the Wizard of Wiring. Did you make looms out of zip ties? I’ve seen that done and it looks pretty cool but kind of obsessive. Enjoyed the video! Happy cruising!

I assume you know that porter was a weaker bear produced in England sold in pubs around the London markets Smithfield and Covent Garden so tat the market workers (porters) could get a drink at their lunch breaks and after work and outside licensing hours.

Ya, I thought about that but we were't in a position to buy a new battery and the Perkins starts so quick I don't think it will do them too much harm until we can get a new start unit.

@@TravelsWithGeordie Good luck with that. A starter motor can draw in excess of 500 amps(especially a diesel) while cranking. Thats why cranking batteries have much thinner plates than deep cycle batteries. Easy way to destroy an expensive deep cycle battery. But you never know, there are always exceptions to all rules written in stone.

Thanks David, well, yes and no. They're on breakers on a separate panel that can't easily be switched off accidentally. Thus left on even if the main panel is shut down.

ABYC says that the house battery fuse should be within 7 inches of the battery, and that there SHOULD NOT be a fuse in the starter circuit.

Good point, House bank has a fuse just about that close. And yes, opted out of starter circuit fuse as if I ever swap banks it will only be for a moment.

Great to see you back on boat work! As an amateur, recreational boater/repairer, I was just wondering if it could be problematic in the future to have the circuit breakers on the door of the electrical panel/locker. Is it possible the opening, closing, and bending of the two door panels might flex the wires and connections resulting in loose connections or broken wires and ultimately circuit failure, overheating, or fire? Realizing space considerations are in effect, would it be possible to open up the face of the electrical locker, make larger doors and fix the circuit breakers inside the locker on the bulkhead? Certainly not a complaint - just thinking out loud. Cheers, mate, love the porter and the "bomber" bottles!

That's a great point. With the long sweep of the wires laid vertically at the hinge points the wires only twist very slightly with every cycle of the door opening. Stranded copper should last lots and lots of cycles.

Blue wire across battery bank? Old charge wire from alternator. Replaced with new 2 gauge. Will scratch Pup!

Danish cursing list. (Slips right through the KZfaq filters). I've added a few words so you'll have an idea of what you are saying; but the cursing is difficult to translate. It just doesn't have the right _swung_ to it. - For fanden (for the devil) - For i hede hule helvede (for in the hot hollow hell) - Kraftedemig (origins from: May cancer eat me) - forpulede pis (refers to anal sex and urine) - Fanden galemig (may the devil make me mad) - fandens (the devils) - satans osse (the devil too) - helvedes osse (the hell too) - Kræftstejlme (refers to cancer and I believe some medieval torture) - Fisme (refers to womens reproductive organs) - Min bare røv! (my naked butt) - Rend mig i røven! (A bit like "walk around with your nose in my butt) A can provide you an audio for correct pronunciation should you desire.

Cursing in Danish is easy, just use the word "Satan" every time something goes wrong and don't say "Say-tin" the english way just say "Seten" with the emphasis on the first syllable.
