I was a painting contractor for many years and one piece of advise I can give you is - Don't dip your brush into the original can or bottle of paint. The brush can bring contaminants into the paint and decrease the durability of it. It's best that you pour the amount of paint you need into a smaller container. The same for your topcoats. It's like double dipping the chip or licking the spoon and putting it back into the pot. Make your paints last, pour into smaller container.

I rarely see a flipper clean a piece as thoroughly as you, considering that most of these pieces are old and came from smokers’ homes, at times. It’s a very important step and usually glossed over.

Hey Lauren. I had saved this video in my library. I have an old but nice desk very similar to this. I rearranged my sewing room and am moving the desk to my living room. Watched so many of your videos thinking I was going to paint lots of furniture. Started quilting instead. Now I’m going to paint this old desk. Going to use Dixie Belle of course. I was thinking of a black top and grey base. I do love this grey. Wish me luck! Finally going to paint. Yay! You’re inspirational. 💕

I've used a lot of paint and since using Dixie Belle, I use nothing else. It has great coverage and it's self leveling, which I really like. Love this Stormy Seas color too. I use to use several brands of brushes but since I've started using the Dixie Belle brushes, I use nothing but them. I use to use the sponge for top coats but now I use their mini to apply top coat. I have only one brush that I use for the top coat. They have a lot of great products. Great job !!!

When I started painting furniture 6 years ago, I used DIY and a few others. The first time I used Dixie Belle I was in love and don’t use anything but Dixie Belle. Great product! Tip: if you lightly sand in between coats (even your top coat) the finish will amaze you.

Nice, you got great taste. That's awesome looking desk. I like the fact that you clean the piece first. Seen a lot of people skip this step. One thing to point out is, I would suggest to always use a sanding mask regardless of the amount, the fine particle can be nasty for your lungs.

For cleaning any hardware I have an old crockpot I put water in and turn it on high and cook the hardware while I work on my project Any cleaner that works on silver can be added but I just use water Super washing soda by arm and hammer can be used on silver, brass and copper If you have things like door hinges or old slide locks on doors that have been painted, the soak in the crockpot makes it peel right off I learned this watching Rehab Addict

Hi Laura, another flipper I follow uses and has great luck using Durham's rock hard putty. It comes in powder form and you mix it as needed. It might save you time and money. In about an hour you can sand it. If you leave it longer you'll have a harder time sanding. Hope that gives you something else to try. Best of luck! I have two teacher siblings - much respect!

Great work! Glad you sold it quickly. I was going to give you a tip that I learned from Katie Scott. She has used Wise Owl furniture salve on the inside of her drawers. That can really freshen them up and it is a natural product that also smells great (partly made from hemp oil) . Glad that Dixie Belle is supporting your adventure. Maybe you can try out Wise Owl sometime as well.

Congrats on getting some freebies. I love the desk. You should factor in the time it takes you to shop for the item, gas, and your time to redo.

As much as I do love how you do these make overs. It’s ok to put tape around the draws but also put it inside the cupboards there was loads of paint on the inner side and looked awful sorry my thoughts I just love stuff to look high end and not rushed

As a former school psychologist I know teaching is hard enough and you work many long hours beyond the school day. I hope painting is therapeutic for you. Great way to pay off student loans. Looks great.

Another job very well done!! I have that same brush and I can promise you that all of their brushes are AMAZING!!! I highly recommend you to try the dixie bell mini or oval... those 2 brushes are sooo worth the investment, my work went to a whole new level using these brushes and my mist bottle too of course.... the absolute smoothest and brush stroke free finish is very easily achieved with my mini and mister bottle... sooo happy for you!! Maybe you will be the one to finally get me to start my videos!!
