You pulled your things off the walls, took all that was yours. You packed your books into boxes and placed them at the door. You emptied your half of our closet, and went through the drawers. Taking it all for granted and left what was left for me on the floor. And still I'm pouring my heart out to you, trying to move you. Still I'm pouring my heart out to you, trying to get you to stay. Still I'm pouring my heart out to you, trying to move you. Still I'm pouring my heart out to you, trying to get you to stay. And I said, "What about this? What about that? Don't you remember the good times? What about this? What about that? Don't you remember our life?" She said, "What about this? And what about that? Don't you remember the hard times? What about this? And what about that? Don't you remember our lives?" And I said, "No, wait. (No, wait)." And she said, "No, it's too late. (No, it's too late)." And I said, "Wait, please stay. (Wait, please stay)." But she said, "No, I'm going away. (I'm going away)." And I said, "No, you cannot go." And I said, "Wait, please stay." She said, "No, I have to go. It's too late, I'm going away. And there's nothing in the world that you could say to make me stay." You pulled your things off the walls, took all that was yours. You packed your books into boxes and placed them at the door. You emptied your half of our closet, and went through the drawers.

I admire how brilliant the lyrics of this song are! a lot of songs about broken hearts are written in elevated speech with a bunch of metaphors and epithets. But David told the story of the breakup as it is, as we all experienced it once. In simple words, right to the point. Right in the heart. I listened to this song for the first time, and a smile appeared on my face. I was thinking "damn, this is exactly my story" 🥺 It's been two years since the love of my life left me, but I still feel the emptiness in my soul. I wish I could learnt of this band earlier. Rest in peace, legend

I’m from the city they’re from, it’s pronounced “ee-prey” and it’s a beautiful city to live in, I’ve walked through the woods of Ypres, very tragic to know he’s dead
@jodepreitere42775 жыл бұрын
@St. Haborym No, it is not, actually. It is the name of the Flemish town Ieper (Ypres, in English), where a lot of Canadian soldiers fought in WWI. The Flemish pronunciation is more like "Ee-per" (with a very short "Ee"), but in English it is either "Ee-pers", "Ee-prey", or even "Wipers". As for Woods of Ypres, I read a comment of David Gold himself on a forum somewhere that he pronounces it as "Ee-prey".
@Ye4rZero5 жыл бұрын
@@jodepreitere4277 Spot on. In WW1 the English fighting there would pronounce it 'Wipers' just to piss off the French lol. If you haven't I'd encourage everyone to read the top comment on their song "mt plesant cemetary", it's from his mother.

This song is about me, every 2 years in a new relationship they are gone. Especially the last one, who took my dog, my possessions and most of my money. And she said most of these things. And I did pour my heart out to her, but no she went away. And my soul turned to ice, and I no longer care about anything especially myself. However, I love this song and all the others.
