Combining the classic Bushtool blade style with the iconic Woodlore handle shape, both Blackfeather Knives and WC Knives have created different but similar bushcraft knives. Continuing my knife comparison series, we put the Blackfeather Woodsman and the WC Knives Woodsman Classic to the test.
If you decide to purchase a WC Knives Woodsman Classic, let them know SurvivoTek sent you!

The Woodsman from Blackfeather Knives is one of my all-time favorite bushcraft knives, but it's very rare and difficult to come by. In my search for a comparable replacement that is more readily available, I was introduced to the WC Knives Woodsman Classic by my good friend. With a similar blade shape and a very comfortable handle, I wanted to see if I could begin recommending it for those looking for a Blackfeather Woodsman. To test the knives, I practice four simple bushcraft tasks: feather sticking, notch carving, spine scraping, and cross batoning.
In case you're curious, the kydex pattern I used on the sheath is called Coyote Brown Venomous by Cedar Grove Outdoors.

Just ran across this video. Grt video. Enjoyed the comparisons. I have 2 WCK Classic Woodsman. One in Nitro V scandi & one AEBL saber grind. Really enjoy using both. Looking forward to more videos

Thank you! And I had no idea William made Classic Woodsmans in saber! That would be a great camp knife especially in AEBL!

Can you tell any difference between edge holding or ease of sharpening between nitro v and aebl

Thanks, John! And I'm really enjoying these comparisons too! I haven't been doing too much leatherwork lately. Kinda ran out of knives to make sheaths for in my collection. Haha!

Good comparison of 2 similar knives by different makers. Nitro V steel has good edge retention, fair toughness (better than Elmax, S35VN, M390, N690, and others), and excellent corrosive resistance--as you pointed out. WC uses a 12-15 angle, making the edge very sharp.

Thank you for clarifying the benefits of Nitro-V! I'm not super familiar with it, so this really helps!

@@SurvivoTek Thank You. I am not a bushcrafter or a steel expert--not even close. I work outside with a machete or knife slashing vines, small saplings, and briars. A smart man would use loppers. I inevitably hit a rock beneath the otherwise sandy soil. I have fixed many chips, consequently. I have experimented with tough steels like 8670, 5160, 1V, etc. Heat treat matters greatly, regardless of the steel, as does the blade geometry, etc. You have mentioned this in videos. The Bark River machete had only minor chipping (1V), and the AG Russell Sandbox knife had none. It holds the record so far. i am just a 60s+ old guy raised in south Arkansas clearing brush with a machete who still enjoys this. Sorry for being so lengthy.
