I want to share the first part of a series that has been kicking around in my head for quite some time. You can easily make your own beautiful sheath for your personal Slöjd knife just with simple tools! Last year I´ve made several batches of individual Slöjd knives using Mora 106 blades and others. The handle design is very specifically optimized to give you full palm support while nesting comfortably in your hand when doing reverse cuts. I called it "DogLeg", based on antique pocket knife patterns.
Knife:
Part 1: Carving the handle
Part 2: Fitting the Blade
Part 3: Finishing the Handle
Part 4: Glueing up the Knife
Sheath:
Part 1: Fitting the Sheath Liner
Part 2: Carving the Sheath
Entirely shot on a 50 year old manual lens for the finest contrast and sharpness! This will be a continuing series, so make sure to stay tuned and support the channel with your likes and shares!

Great videos, and good tip I learned from an old timer was whether or not the sandpaper is open or closed coat (clogs up more or less because of how the sandpaper was made) take your old toothbrush, after you wore it out brushing your teeth, of course - sweep off the sandpaper once in a while with that toothbrush now. The sandpaper gets unclogged and will last much longer! Works the same on fine files used on wood and other things also. Keep up the good work, thanks!

Are they all shot by you? If so you have a skilful eye. I can still remember the one with frost on red berries and people walking in a blurred background. Very special footage. Probably not a special setting, but it takes an artist to see, then shoot something beautiful in an ordinary setting.

Well, I guess everyone notices, but just as it takes an artist to live life slow enough to see beauty in the ordinary, sometimes being forced to live life slowly affords one the opportunity to say the things most people are too busy to mention. Hey, it’s taken me this long, so who am I kidding?! 😊 I’m just glad I’ve said it now. Keep at it Max. Whether you consider it financially viable to continue producing video of this high quality beyond your experimental year or not; you are building a body of work which will you will never regret. So long as you have hard back-ups, you can do what you like with them from now on.

Cheers and thank you! Well, its a fine line, as I need some income also coming from these. Creators don't talk about it, as they shy away from disclosing, but these take a full 8-12h to make. Longer videos don't seem to be popular though, so despite wanting to share all, I might actually turn people off that way. Just some thoughts I'm juggling!

I’m interested to hear that Max. I wonder, does it take more or less the same time to produce a shorter video, because of the extra requirement to decide on what to edit? I do a certain amount of public speaking, and as a rule, I reckon it takes an hour of preparation for each minute of speaking. But that rule breaks down if the talk is shorter than about 7 or 8 minutes, or longer than about 45. The former because I don’t feel the need for careful structure, and the latter because I don’t have to make the excruciating decisions about which parts of my preparations I have to edit out. Is it a similar process with you, or is it more linear, as in each minute of video takes about the same amount of time to prepare?

@@nigelwylie01 good point... It is similar... Just that I already had a vision filming... Then drive to a location or set it up in the right light and right environment with the right lense, etc, the create proxy files for smoother editing which takes hours, then edit it with voice over and customized music, export it which sometimes crashes, for a few hours before uploading it for several hours... Plus of course promoting it... So making it shorter saves on a few steps like export and upload but increases editing time by a bit. See it rather than only the public speech, I'm also tbe Event organizer, the guy who builds the stage, the social media guy promoting it all and the web designer doing graphics for posters and such,... Short... People have no idea how much work this is. Lots of these steps can't be shortened.... So it always is a full workday or more... Extra.

@@nigelwylie01 well... I enjoy doing craft but what I don't enjoy is the financial struggle these days because content always is considered free. I have to point that out. I'm still paying for editing software, music, 4000€ camera equipment... And when I want to learn something I buy courses. I think that having KZfaq is great and I use it a lot, but it has also educated people that stuff is free and it made content lose its value. I'm still figuring that part out... I'm giving myself this year to keep working with this platform... If it doesn't somehow contribute to my livelihood, I'll stop doing it because I greatly takes away time from other things while I can't declare it work because it doesn't pay. So it is a bit of a dilemma.
