Woodstock, in full The Woodstock Music and Art Fair, the most famous of the 1960s rock festivals, held on a farm property in Bethel, New York, August 15-18, 1969. The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was organized by four inexperienced promoters who nonetheless signed a who’s who of current rock acts, including Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, the Who, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, the Jefferson Airplane, Ravi Shankar, and Country Joe and the Fish.
The festival began to go wrong almost immediately, when the towns of both Woodstock and Wallkill, New York, denied permission to stage it. (Nevertheless, the name Woodstock was retained because of the cachet of hipness associated with the town, where Bob Dylan and several other musicians were known to live and which had been an artists’ retreat since the turn of the century.) Ultimately, farmer Max Yasgur made his land available for the festival. Few tickets were sold, but some 400,000 people showed up, mostly demanding free entry, which they got due to virtually nonexistent security. Rain then turned the festival site into a sea of mud, but somehow the audience bonded-possibly because large amounts of marijuana and psychedelics were consumed-and the festival went on.
Although it featured memorable performances by Crosby, Stills and Nash (performing together in public for only the second time), Santana (whose fame at that point had not spread far beyond the San Francisco Bay area), Joe Cocker (then new to American audiences), and Hendrix, the festival left its promoters virtually bankrupt. They had, however, held onto the film and recording rights and more than made their money back when Michael Wadleigh’s documentary film Woodstock (1970) became a smash hit. The legend of Woodstock’s “Three Days of Peace and Music,” as its advertising promised, became enshrined in American history, at least partly because few of the festivals that followed were as star-studded or enjoyable.
A 1994 festival on the same site was better organized and more successful financially, if less legendary. In 1999 a third festival was marred by a small riot. The Museum at Bethel Woods, a multimedia exhibit space attached to a performing arts centre, opened in 2008, with the stated mission of preserving the original festival site and educating visitors about the music and culture of the Woodstock era.

I was born in 91 and I'm thankful to have been raised in an era where computers and cell phones were a thing but not alot of people had them and they were considered a luxury lol. So I was a teen when cell phones were really getting popular and it's amazing to think back on and think about now. I'm jealous of you being born in 76 lol. Cause I wish I could've grew up in the 80s lol.

Early 2000s, almost twenty years ago, Ten Years After were on a reunion tour, and they played the venue I used to work at. They asked me to sell merch during the show, which I did. I ended up working a few gigs that same run, and continue to (occasionally) work for, and travel with, the band to this day! We’ve talked about their Woodstock experiences several times, and the funny thing is, it was just another show for them. Newport Jazz, Seattle Pop, Woodstock, Isle of Wight, Reading. Just another show

Hugs to you. This was so beautiful and thank you so much for doing this video. You’re mom has to be so proud of you and as she should be. You’re not like a lot of other KZfaq Channels. You give us facts, history, humor and sometimes tears, but it’s always with the better understanding of the situation and with compassion. Like you mentioned in this video about reaching out to those viewers who can’t travel that is me right now. I’m currently using a wheelchair/walker this last year dealing with cancer fighting my way back to my normal self. I loved to travel and this last two years has put me in depression at times. Scott, keep up the amazing work you do and the funny lives. Safe travels love and God Bless

Scott as a Mom. I appreciate your Mom giving us you. She raised a wonderful human being. Since I no longer travel much (driving 5 hours to see our grandchildren is a lot!), I appreciate you taking us with you on your adventures. We always have a great time. Sometimes the videos are heavy of heart when you cover something sad or they can be light and funny and happy, like today. Sometimes there's a teaching moment. All of them are wonderful. I think the person you are is because of your Mom's love for you. She gave it her all raising you and your sister. I know as a Mom she did her best to give you a wonderful start and supported your choice of career until her death. She was just as passionate about what you do as you are. I know she's proud of everything you've ever done. I know you loved her with the same affection she gave you. I know you miss her profoundly. As a Mom I adore all the moments you bring to my life. I find you and your videos to be inspiring. On the odd chance We do go somewhere to explore. I take your sense of adventure with me. Be safe out there, and take care of yourself. There's only one you and believe it or not you affect lives in ways you may not know or understand. Peace and love always. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I'd love to get up to Bethel, NY one day. I've watched the Woodstock movie and wished I could have been there, but at the time I was 7 years old. What puts everything in perspective how long ago this historic event took place, many of the musicians that performed have passed on. 54 years can erase a lot of people. Thanks for sharing the video Scott...enjoyed it greatly!

My mom’s cousin went to Woodstock. He brought with him a bunch of bottles of water he filled ahead of time, since it was so hot out. He ended up selling some of it for $10 a gallon at the show. I don’t think anyone expected Woodstock to turn into such a massive, historical event. I would have loved to have gone to it but was born in 1971. I love and appreciate the music from the Woodstock era though! Thanks so much for such a great video, Scott! ☮️💜

So glad you decided to revisited Woodstock & shared this touching video with us. Watching your older video along with this one and it is easy to see why a parent would be so proud of this video. To see their child become successful by following their passion and having a good time doing it, what more can you ask for. Art evokes emotion & this video certainly brought a tear to my eye. What an amazing area with such history! I was lucky enough to go to A Day in the Garden festival in 1998 on the original grounds. We saw everyone- Stevie Nicks, Donovan, Don Henley, Ziggy Marley, Melanie, Pete Townshend, many more…and yes Joni Mitchell made it to this one! I got to meet Richie Havens & Leslie West (from Mountain). It was one of the greatest times I’ve ever had & the photo album I made from that trip means so much to me. Thanks for showing it as it is today✌🏼 I’m sure your mom is so proud of the man you’ve become & of the unique channel you’ve created.

Awesome video. Like your mom said, only you can be you and no one else. Love all your videos that you do. You don't try to do too much and you are just yourself. Keep it rolling my man!!!!!

My mom went to Woodstock. She passed away a decade ago. She said that she rode in the back of a truck to the venue and didn’t remember anything else except Janis and Jimi..guess she had a good time. 🎉 Great video, Scott . This video makes me think of my mom. Thank u❤😊
