In August 1969-against a backdrop of a nation in conflict over sexual politics, civil rights, and the Vietnam War-half a million people converged on a small dairy farm in upstate New York to hear the concert of a lifetime. What they experienced was a moment that would spark a cultural revolution, changing many of them and the country forever.
With never-before-seen footage, WOODSTOCK: THREE DAYS THAT DEFINED A GENERATION tells the story of the political and social upheaval leading up to those three historic days, as well as the extraordinary events of the concert itself, when near disaster put the ideals of the counterculture to the test. What took place in that teaming mass of humanity - the rain-soaked, starving, tripping, half-a-million strong throng of young people - was nothing less than a miracle of unity, a manifestation of the “peace and love” the festival had touted, and a validation of the counterculture’s promise to the world. Who were these kids? What experiences and stories did they carry with them to Bethel, New York that weekend, and how were they changed by their time in the muck and mire of Max Yasgur’s farm? Directed by award-winning filmmaker Barak Goodman and written by Goodman and Don Kleszy, WOODSTOCK takes us back to the three days that defined a generation.

Not all people who were there were entitled college students and rich kids. Most were average youngsters who thumbed rides or drove there in average cheap cars with little money in their jeans. And many guys went to Vietnam after Woodstock once they got drafted! It wasn't a show for the rich and certainly not for half million! And not all of them were hippies either. Hippies were society drop outs who sold drugs for their money. Just look at the footage and you'll see most of them were wearing every day clothes like tshirts jeans sandals and running shoes. Head bands and beads were everywhere because they wanted to take on the hippy look as a sign of rebellion! This event was only meant to happen once and everyone there hàd a strong feeling about being there! But it was an incredible moment that made history!

Maybe you were only six but you were so lucky to have been there! I was nine that summer of '69 and I would have given my eye teeth to have been there too! But you must get funny looks like "you don't look old enough to have been there". But people don't realize that many of those who went brought their kids with them and in fact the film footage shows many little kids all over! But man you were so lucky!

@@Frip36 Well that's not very nice Captain. The very documentary we're talking about has people who openly admitted to lying about sexual preference, medical conditions, family history, etc, just to get out of serving in 'Nam. Their reward was apparently the concert of a lifetime. Must be nice. Low class men and women fight your battles to enjoy your concerts and freedoms. But I'm glad I make you so angry at 9:30 at night on a random weeknight. I'm certainly not the dumbass in this equation.

@@DARC-87 what does a war in a foreign country on the other side of the world have to do with the freedom of people gathering on a music festival? This is the US way of thinking: we must wage war across the sea for our 'freedom'. This works EVERY time to make you feel good about your soldiers deploying abroad.

"If we look at the state of social institutions in the West that were subject to the 60's social revolution, we find Evola's analysis vindicated. The family has collapsed, drug abuse (legal and illegal) is common, abortion legal, pornography commonplace, alcoholism unexceptional, overwork required, mindless consumerism venerated, and eating disorders almost required -- a thousand pathologies blossom. These are the flowers that were planted in the 60's by a generation whose revolution was the apotheosis of nihilism. It lacked the violent dignity of the Bolsheviks and heralded a tacky social destruction so mundane it is barely evil."

Yes, I think the internet is the most present form of censorship--obviously the people that own Google and all the rest of it are controlling what people can and can't say more than ever. there has been a beyond mega-rich cult running the world for centuries and it has evolved into this present technocracy that clearly has an agenda for us. People have continued to give their power away to this cult and only have themselves to blame for the present state of things. there were people protesting capitalism 20 years ago and not a thing was done to stop it. they have done things to destroy peoples self-esteem everywhere to bring us to their 'end game' of 2030. its incredible to me that people have been talking about artificial intelligence for two decades like it's a good thing--they want mindless robots and are beginning to get them--that why Bill Gates wants to vaccinate everyone; part of making us into walking soft wear. this covid scam right now is the new 911 lie--the masks are to continuing dehumanizing us, and the vaccinations are coming next if this doesn't stop.

the family unit has collapsed because there are millions of mindless idiots born to every generation who had no "family values" to begin with keep spreading their seed and spawning even bigger garbage than they were! @requiemdexter 3 жыл бұрын
@@eargasm1072 It's a quote and I don't place it all on Baby Boomers, they just happen to be at the helm during the greatest period of degeneration. It's only part of the analysis. The other part being that human beings are inherently greedy and driven by the desire for unearned moral and financial superiority. Baby Boomers didn't facilitate the untold virulent growth of those innate human characteristics, central banking did.

It's a shame PBS is unable to be unbiased. The truth is it was a giant con job by the organizers. Tickets were oversold and the artists were conned into being there. It is remembered fondly by the youth that went to it because it was a life changing kind of mix of Teenage stupidity and the top artists of the time performing live. If your going to be young and stupid then do something that will be remembered forever.

@@sagecraneengel7374 No, you're either someone who gets off on saying, "I was there" or your a liar. I talked to people who I know were there and a couple who were backstage. I never said any of it was on purpose by the organizers. They were young and stupid too. Do you know how many women were sexually assaulted and raped at woodstock? Do you know how many people were robbed? Do you know how many people died at woodstock? The people that treat it like it was heaven on Earth were either victimising people, in a protected section of the farm or utterly out of it for the whole experience. Actors playing people who went does not count for anything. It started OK but ended bad. Most of the attendees broke in.
