Great work. I have one safety tip, please do not wear a hooded sweatshirt that has ties hanging down. They are very dangerous and if they were to get caught in your lathe,that could spell disaster.
@jude4896
@jude4896 9 ай бұрын
Also moving the banjo and toolrest with the lathe running is a recipe for tradigyies. Poor safety leads to bad habits, that can build a false sense of security... that result in injury. Please be safe and use good wood turning practices, and you will enjoy woodworking for the rest of your life! Cheers!

That's really nice, I love the contrast of the ash and walnut. Also, the use of milliput is something that's never occurred to me before, I think I'll have to experiment with that! Thank you for the inspiration

Great job on the box! One thing I used to impress on my woodworking students was NEVER wear anything with strings when working with equipment. I look forward to seeing more videos in the future.

Side grained box, pretty. May change shape with time and humidity changes. Tight fit may be a problem.

I was thinking about the ash inlay for the top too. Yet if well sealed, it may not suffer moisture shifts much. I have a slab box that seals tight during summer humidity...beautiful box- closed for half the year...Hahaha.

A few items I saw that were a bit different approaches and techniques I don't or haven't used. 1st being in laying the lighter wood so deeply that it ultimately penetrates the lid of the box. Next, curving the inside of the boxes corner meeting the bottom looks very nice. To get smaller items out instead of having to tip them out it would be easier to grip! Good job! Also very nice wood pairing and the distinctive separation using the milliput is a nicely visual! Good job! Thanks for sharing

This is a great item, don't want to be too much of an old fart but please remove your rings, bracelets ( or ware gloves ) and don't ware a top with draw strings, I have a wedding ring ( never take it off) so put on a glove, I have a gold chain on my right writs but remove it during turning sessions, I do know of people who have lost fingers be getting rings caught on rotating items. PLEASE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK and dont hate me for my comments :-)

Wow ... great job! Love your work. A quick question; if I may ... !? I am a retired engineer. As you are working on your lathe; I cannot help hearing the sound of it; and it sounds as if you have a dry bearing or something making a noisy sound as its running! The main bearing on the top behind your chuck has a grease nipple in it ... do you ever pump a little grease into it ... !? Just wondered, because, again, something is noisy in your lathe! Not being disrespectful; just; from an engineers point-of-view ... trying to help! Again, love your work. Best ... William (Hampshire UK)

Beautiful box, but I think you will find that a loose fitting lid/one handed will work better in future projects. Hard to get those tight fitting lids off without spilling the contents. Excellent work nonetheless.
@pamlico53
@pamlico53 2 жыл бұрын
Ray Key said that in his opinion a loose fitted lidded box was a “ failure”; Richard Raffan states that, when he’s asked what is the difference between a loose fitted box and one that’s not loose he reply’s , “ about $60.00”. You might recognize these two names as true wood lathe masters ( R. Key passed September 2018 but his influence as a master woodturner continues.
