A beautiful thing has been made! But I would start from the other side and make a bowl with a natural edge. Probably amazing growths were hidden under the bark. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing. You found a beautiful bowl in that burl. Two quick questions. Was that a well dried burl when you put it on the lathe? Also, during the early shaping of the bowl you were using a pivoting motion to remove wood. What is the advantage of using the pivoting motion rather than a smooth cut following the shape of the curve you are trying to create for the bowl?

The burl wasn’t completely dry but it was dry enough to where I don’t think it’s going to shift or warp too much. The pivot motion I learned by watching other turners on KZfaq, it just helps with the bulk removal process and once I get close to a shape I like I’ll refine it with longer takes and shear scrapes.
