The one thing I admire about you most is that though you seem disapointed by failure, but it doesn't stop you from trying something else when you do fail. So many people just give up when they fail at something. You just keep going! Inspirational craftsman! Keep on keeping on Nick! You are so entertaining no matter what you are trying or actually making. Thanks for all your videos.

At around 10 minutes, I'll tip you off here: the air has vacated the cells in the foam under the vacuum pressure, thus reducing volume without changing overall mass. In the end that's not really a _problem,_ but something you have to account for.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't the second layer of foam he put in shrink as much as the first?
@blackguard5883
@blackguard5883 Жыл бұрын
@@chantillychandra Maybe less time in the chamber, as it was the second go. That or the resin could've more effectively sealed off the cells of the foam, trapping more air. Either is possible, and I'm not omniscient.

Putting the ice in to make it cooler made it take longer to set, which allowed more time for the air to escape.

@@klaudiadunk7483 Hadn't considered that, but most likely a factor. Never worked directly with resins myself. Mostly just 2 part epoxies to finish projects or add integrity to bound joins. And yeah, even that chemical heat gets pretty intense.

I love that you are willing to spend so much time and effort to try things when you have NO idea of they will work or not! Seeing success, failure, expectation and problem solving is so rare on any form of media these days. I appreciate that there are makers like you who are willing to experiment and try new, fun, off the wall things without an attachment to a specific outcome, trying things just for the excitement of the journey. Sometimes things don't work, but sometimes you end up with a massive success like this one!

I honestly love ALL your projects and experiments! What I would absolutely love is a video with nothing but tips and like a resin 101 type of class for those of us who are just getting into trying it ourselves. My dad and I are going to do a table together. He has a wonderful Handyman and does some great work with building things. He has just turned 71 and I am 43 (the youngest of his 2 children, both girls) and I am always into helping him fix or build anything and everything he does. From fixing things on cars to building chicken coops, and replacing electrical outlets, and everything in between, I am the daughter that loves to be right there doing everything with him. So I have asked him to build a resin table a river table with me so that I can have some thing that we built together and keep it forever. He is a charter fisherman and takes people from all over the world fishing. So, a river table would be absolutely amazing to build together! Also, his favorite color and my favorite color is blue. And it was my grandfather’s too. And my grandfather was the one that taught him how to fish in shared the love of being on the river with him. So this table would mean so much to us in so many ways. I showed him a video of you building a river table and he has now started watching KZfaq videos about River tables. He agreed to build one with me and we are both very excited, but we’re nervous Because we don’t have a lot of money and a ton of equipment. So we need to be able to do it right the first time and we’re worried about buying a lot of resin and which kind of mixing it right and all of that. It has to go well the first time. so if you did a video of working with resin 101 for beginners and all kinds of tips and what not to do and what to do and if this goes wrong, then this is what you do and all of that it would be amazing for a lot of us. Also, if you maybe did another river table video, that would be incredible! Thank you for all that you do, and it is not just entertaining, but really helps those of us who like to create things and tinker with things and maybe do small little projects as a hobby.

another cool project. my son Jack and I turn wood on our lathe, and really enjoy it, your work has inspired us to try resin some day, but my VA pension doesn't really leave the budget for that for now. we did just finish turning a two piece trekking pole for my grandson's birthday. Jack is a good uncle. have you ever turned a walking stick, or a two piece trekking pole? maybe with wood and resin combined? that would be a cool project. so that you could put them in the pressure pot, maybe make a multiple section cane or pole. we used brass plumbing fixtures to join the two sections.

Great Scott! This is fantastic! You deserved a win. I just wanted to thank you for posting both your successes and the not-quite-so-successful projects (it's only a failure if you didn't learn from it)! As an artist myself, I find that people tend to think that because of my pieces' final results, they're always that good straight away. That's absolutely not the case, and very rarely does an art piece turn out the way I would like, the first time around. I think this misconception deters many people from trying arts, crafts, etc. because they don't feel adequate. I always try to encourage everyone to try their hand at things. I truly believe that we are all born creators, and we only have to find what we want to create and hone our skills. Thank you for showing the world that makers, too, are human beings, and as such, perfectly imperfect!

SO pleased you got to revisit this project!!! I want shadow foam for my shop, def gonna have to get some. Props to them for sending you some shredded bits to play with, that’s awesome!! Also, it looked like cereal… “forbidden cereal!” And then when it started popping 😂😂😂 I’ve also def learned from watching you; when you first started pouring I went “Nick you should put a blank in to save supplies!” And then when you did..!! 😱😝 I was (as you say) chuffed! Personally, I loved you dabbling in minis, but I know it didn’t do so well for you…maybe you could build a tiny mini in resin or something? I’ve seen cool little “moments in time” captured in resin, like a sea monster coming towards a tiny boat on top or such. I’m sure you can find cool ways to integrate your new interests. A cool vase with a wooden base, resin going up the side and a miniature scene trapped in it? The only limit is your imagination, and you’ve got a wild one!! This is gonna sound cheesy but you seemed so happy doing this, I just wanna see you do more stuff you’re enjoying. Sorry this is a long comment!! From Ohio we’re sending you love man!! 💖💖💖👻
