Wood Lathe Tool holder | Easy Woodworking Project for Beginners Build a Lathe tool rack for your woodturning tools
This woodworking project is also an easy beginner’s project and solves your lathe tool storage problems.
In this woodworking video I’m going to teach you how to build a practical lathe chisel storage rack, we will go through how to cut the pieces of MDF on a table saw and how to lay them out as well as some practical tips on spray painting your woodworking projects.
We use PVC pipe to hold the lathe tools in place firmly without scratching or marking them.
This rack holds 22 woodturning chisels in a small box that is easily moved around the workshop, you could also use French cleats to stick it to the wall when not in use.
Also a big thanks to everyone for helping us reach our 10,000 subscriber mark, it’s really very exciting for me to get there.

I turned the tubes with wood in my lathe. It's a lot more attractive and it's a good use of the lathe.

A fellow Aussie You Tuber, what a refreshing change to hear our own accent. Love the tool rack. I’ll try and make one this weekend but I think I’ll lay some steps in the base to stagger the rows of chisels. Being an old bloke on blood thinners, I don’t need any excuse to cut myself in the workshop. Thanks mate.

Hey there friend 🇺🇸 I use PVC pipe also for years - I took a flat screen tv mount that pulls out an swivels an mounted the tool carrier to it - when I am finished turning I just push it up against the wall - out of the way- all so I put 1/4" wire on the bottom an the shavings fall through

If you wanted to you could put some french cleats up on the wall to hold a whole bunch of tool racks like this and put a french cleat on the back of your box. That way you could hang the box up out of the way then use the handles to easily grab it off the wall and move it to your work area.

Do you have any videos on the operation, use, maintenance/repair of the lathe shown. I just picked one up and have run into some unique issues, especially the bed way system and the key that runs along the bottom. I would love to get some insight from someone that has experience with this model lathe.

Good luck. I've looked all over the net and found nothing of any value. Only thing I learned is that it is referred to as a mono tube lathe. That really isn't helpful but makes searching a little easier :-)

When spray painting and plastic the first coat must be very light coverage is not important let it dry for 10mins or until tacky then the next coat can be much thicker the first coat will almost make drips impossible and make your coverage much easier.

This has got to be one of the most dangerous ways of storing sharp tools. Trips and falls, etc do happen to the best of us. This should not be built or used for sharp tools!
