Very clever and beautiful. I'm a hobby turner and I might just give this a try on a smaller scale. The real joy of turning for me is when I get to apply the oil and the wood comes to life. I've now subscribed and look forward to more videos from you so many thanks.

Thanks so much Alan! Applying the finish is always a great time when you really get to see the grain come to life! This piece was my first time really doing any sort of carving and I found it kind of therapeutic once you get into it.

Yes very pretty wood. I had a chance to get some Mimosa which is very pretty wood as well. But I will turn about anything I come across. Sumac is interesting as well.

@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks the shield' be for Svetty while Harry does any turning to prevent any wood splinters,, shaving, or unsecured wood on lathe pieces, etc. flying towards her. Thus a shield that "size" would be useful potection wise..

Thanks Bluey! Yeah, I considered making the leaves thinner but I was actually running out of time so I had to leave it a bit thick. I maybe revisit this and thin it down.

Thanks Huw! I actually had a 4th cored bowl (2nd smallest one) which I originally planned to carve also but I found it didnt look right as the smaller center bowl overpowered it so I've left that one out.

You came up with something pretty interesting. Really like that the three pieces can stand alone but look like a huge layered flower when set together. Really good looking wood too. 👍

Thanks H D, I wanted to make it something that could be functional as well. I pictured it being a table centerpiece or separated holding bread or other random stuff.

Stunning, that's all I can say, just Stunning. I was proud of the two magnolia bowls I turned last week until now. Now I am just happy. I had no idea magnolia could look like that. I put an oak stain on them. Next one gets the oil. Have it on the shelf, just never thought of it. Of course the carving really set it off. Can't wait to see what you do next month.

Thanks for the kind words Randell! I'm sure your bowls looked great. This had some spalting in it as well so that added a bit of the extra coloration.

Hi Vickie, Yes I love the Oneway Coring system. I've got a whole bunch of big blanks to use them on. Sorry about not updating the challenge end card yet. Bruce Jordan from Jordan Woodwerx has it posted. I'll try and get that added in a few minutes.

Thanks so much Rob, the idea came to me pretty early on, and then when I saw the bowl blank I knew that was the one to use. I'm glad the cracks held up!
