Woodturning - New handle for my hammer!

In this video I turn and new handle from a hammer. I use off centre turning to achieve something of an oval handle.

well done brother . if i had to guess i would say thats ether cherry or mahogany im thinking cherry . but hey i tell y what drop that hammer head down on the handle just so that the wood sticks out of the top of the head a little bit . then drop the hammer in a bucket of water for a hour or two and just let it soak up the water . the wood will swell and mushroom out at the top . most if not all of the gap in the space between the handle and the head of the hammer will be gone and the mushroom at the top will help keep it in place . once you let it dry the wood will stay in place for the most part . if it does get loose just drop it back in a bucket of water for a while and it will swell back up again . used to do it with axes you can do it with oil to if you like and it will last longer but take alot longer to dry .

Thanks for the tip Dark, I'm going to give that a go! I have a fair bit of known Cherry and it's quite different from this. I think it's more likely to be a mahogany of some sort.

@@MoleValleyMaker hey ill take your word for it brother on the type of wood its kinda hard to tell on video . mahogany cuts different then cherry two . if its been seasoned and is dry it is a very dusty kind of irritates the eyes type of wood . cherry is more dense i think . both are beautiful woods to work with .

It's the Simon Hope sanding disc. Fits standard 50mm jaws. Thanks Huw!
