I made a few rings from an old olive wood cheese board. I'm experimenting a bit with brass and Milliput inlays. The Milliput is going very well. The brass could be better, because you can still see the glue on the edges. I did not film making the inlays, only turning the rings. Let me know if I should make a video about making these inlays.

I also made our wedding rings myself, but from gold. But these wooden rings are also very beautiful and special. Thanks for watching Stephen. Frank.

Thanks Gary. Olive wood is, in my opinion, very suitable for jewelry. In any case, it is very nice in color and grain. Thanks for watching. Frank.

Wow Frank, I've been wanting to try something like this for some time now but I had not yet done my research on mounting the piece. Now I can start straight away because you did that for me. That crosscut spindle for holding the workpiece is simply genious! Thnx for sharing!

Thanks Leo. I can recommend that you start making them. It's fun and fairly easy. You will have to use the CA glue to make the wood stronger. Good luck!

Can I recommend making flat steps for different sized rings, on the cross cut spindle (mandrel)? No taper. That way it's easier to square up the ring on the mandrel. Less wobbles. Beautiful work! That olive wood grain is outstanding!♥️

Thank you Heather. Thanks for your input on the mandrel. The advantage of a taper is that you can use all diameters. I made a ring of 19.5mm. But it's true that the rings can easily get crooked on this mandrel. Thanks for watching 🙏. Frank.

Very nice, Frank 👍 Always wanted to try to make a ring but I'm afraid I will not last to long but those with brass inlay have more chances to live longer. Of course I would to see how did You made those with inlays because ideas can be used on bowls, boxes, etc. Take care my friend 👍 Rav

The previous ring that I had made remained intact for more than 3 months. This one was worn 24/7 with hand washing, showering, washing dishes etc. Water and wood are not the best friends. But you are right. I expect that the one with the brass band will be stronger. Thanks for watching my friend.

Thank you very much Sir, I’ll be looking forward to seeing your next videos. Can you make like a coffee cup with a thick rope for the handle? I want to see how you’d make it please. Think about it. Have a great Sunday.

Ze zijn prachtig geworden! Hoe heb je dat randje er in gemaakt, zit daar metaal tussen? Heel knap weer, echt geweldig😘🥰
@TheTinyWorkshop
@TheTinyWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын

Thanks Brad. I sometimes find a cutting board or serving board at a thrift store. That is beautiful wood for jewelry and pens and is not expensive. Good luck. Frank.

I been doing a lot of research about taking on turning rings on my lathe. This video taught me that I don't need to spend $100 for a mandrel but I do want to know is what kind of Chuck do you use?
@TheTinyWorkshop
@TheTinyWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Most of the time a Record Power SC4 but in this video a cheap chuck with spigot jaws.

Then I can make two rings from the same piece of wood with a different inner diameter.
