Woodturning - In this video I take resin blocks from leftover resin pours and smash them up into pieces then combine them with a old maple branch and black tinted epoxy to make a very unique hollow form.

I didn't realize how translucent the hollow form is until those last pictures - pretty cool. I started with pine - from old 4x4 fence posts that had rotted at the ground that we replaced. The wood is light, very dry, and cuts easily. The wood was free and great to learn with. I'm simply a hobbyist and still have much to learn.

Jim: when I started turning, 30+ years ago, I made miniature things out of pine. I wanted to see if turning was anything that I would like. I made spinning tops and small toys for the kids. I graduated to larger forms in hard woods. Your info is a good guide for beginners. The hollow form does look nice. Lots of colour. Take care and stay safe.

I love watching those ribbons of epoxy flying around!! On some of your videos you are explaining to some people (who don’t like it) that you chose to do talking after the fact (voice-overs) to explain what you are doing. I thought I would mention that I do really enjoy that format you’ve chosen. Sometimes it’s fun to hear the noise of the turning, but I also like being able to hear you without the distraction of that noise. I don’t turn wood and never will, but I really enjoy watching your videos and learning about it. Your pieces are beautiful!

I love it! Looks like the TV graphics from the 1980s, lol. I bet it would look awesome with some led string lights inside too

I liked the look..., But when it was on the table with the light? BAM! Lovely pinks in soft hues and amethyst purples shining so strong. What a piece! Can't wait for next week. Happy weekend with your people.

Very Unique Piece of Turned Art. BEAUTIFUL as always. Really Enjoyed Your discussion about Professional Woodturners last week. Very insightful. I tried for about a year while living in Oregon a few years ago and Failed Miserably. Dreams Dashed, now Turning as a hobby again.

I don't care what other people say about your running narrative - I love it. The experience and knowledge you share are generally all the questions I have that nobody else covers (plus your accent is sooo relaxing to these English ears 🙂) The work you produce is beautiful too - so far I've loved every one. One day I might get the opportunity to learn myself. Fascinated by this craft. Thank you ☺

Well done, Jim. I'm a big fan of those kind of hollow forms. The 'closed' form always seems more elegant than the open form.
