I will never forget it. I was 18 and lived at 104 South First st in Grand Haven. Everything was still and quiet then all of a sudden it was like a bomb went off and a freight train was driving across the roof of our house. When we came out to survey the damage about 30 minutes later, the town was unrecognizable. The roof had come off of the Tip a Few tavern. Beautiful 500 year old trees were down everywhere some places it was impossible to even walk down the street. President Clinton flew over in a helicopter and declared the area a natural disaster and we got some FEMA help. I walked from grand haven to spring lake and saw a clear path of twisted trees that looked like a small tornado had formed , moved in a line through harbor island, jumped the draw bridge and landed on the mill stream condos that were destroyed (holiday inn stands there now) It looked like it jumped off the condos across m104 and then landed on Alles Tire then took out the north side of spring lake. We lost power for a week

I lived in Midland, and it woke me up at 6am. It was a Sunday. I turned on the TV to whatever was on. The entire state was red. We didn't have any warning, no cell phone alerts.
