i was going to suggest a cheap power station or building his own with an lfp battery and a chargerverter like from sungold. either of them could connect to the single 120v outlet and be set to charge at like 500w while he is able to use however amount of battery he can afford i would suggest at min 5kW, 48v being the preferred battery voltage, this way he can power high power tools without stressing his single outlet.

Hand tools allow you to be more accurate when doing shapes. I mean people use jeweler files to finish off reduction gets after the gears were cut by machines to be gear shaped. You compare a gear set finished off with jeweler files vs ones not you’d find the one finished off with jeweler files are quieter, more durable, and more efficient. Hand tools are important because they can do things more accurately than any machine. If you touch a piece of wood to a belt sander you’re taking off a lot of material where if you rub sand paper on wood you’re taking off very little. Power tools help speed up the rough setup but hand tools help where fine details count.

Congrats on your wedding. You surprised me by your shift to carving. I love it. It's my favorite way of working with wood. I started carving wood using a Trautman carver many years ago. I wish I had one today (they're too expensive and I don't think they would be sold to the general public - like most woodworkers). I did free form carving very similar to what you're doing. Sam Maloof was the first professional woodworker I know to do freeform carving (with a purpose). I thoroughly enjoy the technique and continue experimenting with it today. One thing I'd encourage you to do is to reinforce the joy of sanding freeform sculpture. You get to really see your work come together and become beautiful. It allows you to be able to spend many intimate hours in close proximity to your work.

I have suggested this in the past but since you don't have access to the breaker a solar generator or back up battery system that you can plug into the outlet to charge and provide a buffer system for power draw may prevent you from tripping that breaker.

Sorry to be “That Guy”, but just want people to know that you can’t just “upgrade the breaker”, since the circuit is sized to properly protect the wiring. Instead, you would need to upgrade the wiring of the entire circuit to a larger size BEFORE you can install a higher amperage breaker. Better to just run another circuit if possible, which I understand is not possible for either option in this case.

I've watched your videos for a while and have always enjoyed your "off the beaten path" take on things. When you started power carving this table, I thought you had finally gone over the edge. You proved me wrong. The final product looks great. Just a couple of minor concerns on my part. How does a college educated man not know that horizontally and vertically are words? My other concern is, as an engineer, how have you not used the Pythagorean theorem since middle school and how can you be bad at math and be an engineer? The problem is, you slip so many sarcastic moments into your videos (that's great) that this time I could not tell if you were kidding or not. Love the humor. My family is from Ohio. I was born in Ohio, even though I have lived in Texas for 62 of my 66 years. Must be an Ohio type of humor that I always heard from my dad and his brothers. Keep up the fun videos.

I too started woodworking in my apartment parking lot. I now own a beautiful home with a two car + garage I use as my woodshop. One tip I can give is to not only have a 200 amp panel, but to have a 200 amp breaker box on the utility pole coming into said panel. That way you will be able to run your planer and dust collector together. You will be happier.

handtool woodworking is an art. It's good to know enough to do it, because hand tools will save your ass in some really interesting situations. And being able to sharpen things well makes all the difference. If you're crap at sharpening chisels, you'll struggle with handtool woodworking. If you wanna get good at sharpening shop tools, start doing handtool woodworking and learn to sharpen from someone like outdoors55 who has a great channel on sharpining basics. And rex krugers sharpening video's as well for plane techniques. Its an art. And maybe its a cult. But, i really enjoy handplaning. I just dont enjoy the sharpening part.

He will never do it. He has zero skills so he has to use tools that take little to no skill. ( not that things like tablesaws don’t require skill for more advanced operations) Professional furniture makers use hand planes for 2 reasons. 1 if you have even mediocre skills at sharpening and using a plane they are much faster than an orbital sander.2. The finish you get from a hand plane is far more refined. All this is fine, not everyone has to aspire to make quality furniture. Lots of people are happy to make high school quality projects. But I find it hilarious when he makes totally ignorant comments about things like planes that he knows absolutely nothing about.

One reason you probably don’t like hand tools is because there’s a learning curve to sharpening, but it’s not too bad to learn. Also, I like bridge city’s set up gauges but their hand planes were mediocre and disappointing for me even though they look cool. I had the same bridge city plane you were using. Nothing beats a Lie- Nielsen plane.

The biggest problem with walnut is it is graded one sided and from my experience when you are building something out of regular hardwood 15% extra usually is enough. Walnut unless you’re buying the ultra premium 25% is usually needed. It is something about the fact that years ago supply and demand wood graders figured a way of making more money out of there walnut by ignoring knots on one side. Hope that helps. Cheers from Chigwell Alberta Canada.

Stop putting your hand on the wood/track while you’re cutting! If a kick back occurs you will lose your fingers or even your whole hand. Only beginners put their hands behind the blade. Also, who scrapes the resin off each tooth with a chisel? Plop the blade in a round tray and spray it with some Simple Green. Let it soak for a minute and use a nylon or brass brush to remove the resin. Rinse with hot water, towel dry and you’re good to go in under 4 minutes. I suspect your blade isn’t burning because of dullness but rather the saw table top isn’t at the right plane with an angled blade. You may have to shim one corner by measuring the blade against the table slot while it’s angled. Some trigonometry might need to be used to get the exact amount of shim height, or you can use trial and error after finding the low corner.

Id like to draw your attention to how youtubers have the power of gaining subscribers, and then lose them. I have been a subscriber to your channel because I watched a video that impressed me, and today, during this video, I unsubscribed. I get it, its your channel, do with it what you want, but there are inevitable cause and effect consequences of what you put out. The entire video was littered with tactless sexual innuendos that put me right off. Its not necessary in a woodworking channel. Show some class to keep subscribers would be my advice. Also your table saw blade binding may very well be because of a dust build up. I had the same thing happen and as soon as I got all the dust out it cut like new. My 2 cents worth. Good luck with your channel, but that's it for me.

Honestly when you asked for the sub and like I was like "but that looks awful". Then at the end I had to write this comment saying I was wrong and you deserve both 😆

Nice work on the chalk comments and the quick jokes. The world needs more things to keep people using their melon.

Grammar Police at your service ... Better (syntax) to say, "make a/one horizontal plunge" and "make a/one vertical plunge", direction before the act; as in aim then shoot. Horizontally and Vertically can used to describe how something is "oriented/arranged" ... I'm British and speak English (UK) not English (US). You're welcome 😎 I enjoy your videos and have been a subscriber for some time, keep it up.

I don't understand how people get so fucking easily offended. We're adults aren't we.... not toddlers who need to be protected.
