During the 80's and 90's I made a lot of instruments including solid body stuff, but nothing on this channel as I am in the process of setting up for luthiery. I might make a short video on a where I'm up to with the process 😊 It could be interesting. I had to fell a good few trees 5 years ago due to some being a problem and a couple being dead. I have slowly been processing and storing them future projects, especially instrument building wood 😊 ॐ

The Wood Yogi that sounds like it would be an interesting video. Although many builders have channels, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one video of a shop being set up for luthiery. 👍

You're welcome to come out. Just give me a heads up with a little notice. I'm usually only there a couple of days a week. I have heard of the tree. There is someone in Central Cal with some boards from it but last I heard they were asking ridiculous $ for it. About 1 1/2 years ago, we had some 8/4 Genuine Mahogany with really strong figure that rivaled the pics I'd seen of wood from the tree (at least in the same ballpark). The wood is long gone but we have a picture of one of the boards on our website here: www.commercialforestproducts.com/what-happened-to-the-good-mahogany/

@@CommercialForest I was fortunate enough to have a large board from "the tree" which I used with the cuban mahogany for the dining set...I have a few small pieces left from it, I'll bring one to show you when I go out there.

There’s a lot of controversy, for sure. Some renown luthiers agree with you, others claim to hear the differences. Personally, my ear is not good enough to do any tap test analysis.
