I made a dining table out of oak. The painting is an oil wax finish.
The top board and leg joint is a sliding dovetail joint.

What a solid design and lots of beautiful woodworking. I like the sled you used on a bandsaw - I mostly saw folks using a sled with table saw.

Thank you for watching. I think a band saw is safer to cut a sled

Wow, beautiful craftsmanship. Many traditional wood joints, this table will last for generations. Is it oak? I like it in any case, nice and solid. Greetings Marc

This is so beautiful, do you need to pay attention to grain direction when attaching the legs to the table in the sliding dovetails? I was wondering if the wood expansion could cause problems if you don't orient the grain a certain way.

Thank you for watching. There is a small gap between the top plate and the slide legs.

If you mean expansion of the leg crossbar with the male dovetail in it, it’s probably small enough to not be a huge deal. But the way you would do it is to cut the dovetail on the edge grain side of the board. Remember that wood expands along the width of its face grain sides. It effectively gets wider, not thicker, and not shorter. As for the top expanding. You would leave the dovetail floating in the track. And if you put end caps in the track you leave a space between the cap and the dovetail piece so that the table can shrink if it wants to. Again the table is going to get wider and narrower as it moves, not longer or thicker. Also if you mean cutting the dovetail dado the long way across the table then, again we’re talking about a small section of wood that isn’t going to get much movement. You have to think about movement when you’re dealing with large widths of wood across the face grain. You don’t have to really worry about a 2 inch wide section moving very much.
