Catching up in the shop and ready to start the next project. I'm going to make a box with a drawer and a hinged lid.
Also looking forward to some lathe practice too. Thanks to some direct work I got the lathe and bandsaw all set up

And congrats on the weight loss! I know how hard that can be. Easy in principle but harder to put into practice; kinda like woodworking can be!

@@faceedgewoodworking OMG you just described me too LOL Thankfully I'm much better about biscuits etc. at home than I used to be - we joke that ice cream is safe in our house because we just forget it's there! If it weren't for this I'd be the size of a house \*sigh*

I switched from a shopvac to a 4" dust collector on my 14" bandsaw. It made quite a difference.

Hi Marc. Yes, although my extractor is a very basic one it moves much more air than a vac.

Happy new year. I bought a tool chest very like yours a few months ago and I love it. It has some history and it is nice using something that has been cherished before. I also have a garage workshop which is a little tight for space. The first thing I did with it was put it on castors. That makes it so much more convenient. Sometimes just to wheel it into place so I can sit on it (as it appears you appreciate, they make comfortable seats).

The problem with stuff on wheels is there's nowhere to roll it to.

@@1pcfred I have a throughfare down the middle of my garage to our cars out back. I store my chest next to my workbench. When I work I tend to wheel the chest into the thoughfare and then wheel it back out of the way when I'm done.

Hi Rob. Sounds great! Mine's on castors too, It does help a lot. Can't imagine it without. A radio controlled version would be pretty sweet 😂

Thanks for sharing! i understand about the floor chest. takes up to much room. Id rather have a hanging chest like the awesome beautiful Studley chest. Going to wait til i get more room when i move. Good job on losing the weight!!! Keep it up!

Thanks! I love the look and building the floor chest, just not so keen on the space it uses. If and when we move it might prove more useful again. The Studley is pretty amazing, a decent option for sure. I really like just having the common tools to hand on a basic rack. Thank you! My spare tyre is going to take some serious work though 😂

Well done with the weight loss. I have lost a similar amount in the last year and feel better for it.I currently use a shop vac with my 10” bandsaw and wonder if it’s worthwhile, for me, to get a dust extractor. Any suggestions or recommendations? I noticed next to your bandsaw a metal case which looks identical to one I have. It contains a B and D corded drill which I must have bought in the 80s. It doesn’t get much use but I don’t think I could rid of it. At around the same time I got a Wizard which was B and D’s version of the Dremmel. It finally gave up the ghost last week and is waiting to go to the recycling centre.

Hi Eddie, good job! It takes some discipline to loose poundage 👌. My experience has been that Vacs are good for power tools but not right for machines. I literally went for the cheapest one that "lumberjack" do. It's only for light use so fingers crossed it works out okay.

-7°C = 19.4°F Anything below 0°C is freezing. I don't like when it dips below 70°F anymore. That's about 21°C It's what we call room temperature. But who can afford to be that warm or cool now?

@@faceedgewoodworking I've researched it and there are places in the world where it's room temperature all the time. There's a place in Australia like that and it doesn't rain either. So people basically live on decks. They have like one room in case there's ever any weather. But they're usually always outside.

@@faceedgewoodworking yeah I've been places where it's never cold and the bugs are unbelievable. That's what the cold really does for you. It really cuts down on pestilence. I never understood how Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. How many reptiles can there be in that cold climate? We must be talking about a handful of snakes at most. Now if he drove the snakes out of Florida then that's doing something.

Do you have any experience with Tormek knockoffs? While I try to limit my use of power tools to a minimum and have been largely successful (i cut down on orbital sander, tablesaw, router, etc) I have been playing with the thought of having slow speed wet grinder for re-estabilishing primary bevels. That would be its only purpose, I do not look for joinery ready edges, just a way to repeatedly and quickly get bevels to 25°. Do you think cheaper options would be just a waste of money, or that something in the range around 5000 Czk/ 200 EUR would work? Thanks for the answer

Funny you should say that. I have bought the www.screwfix.com/p/scheppach-tiger-2500-250mm-brushless-electric-whetstone-sharpening-honing-machine-230v/3502r but haven't had chance to share my experience yet. We've had a Tormek at work for a couple of decades so I should be able to do a fair comparison. I wanted to share a recommendation for a grinder and avoid the dust/particulate, heat and sparks from a high speed grinder. If you wear a mask when grinding and while the dust settles a high speed grinder would be okay.

@@faceedgewoodworking Looking forward to that comparison (I was deciding between that scheppach and its 7000s version and two other brands in similar range). I have cheap high speed grinder, but the flimsy tool rest and no way to fix an angle makes hard for me to do a consistent bevel.

I shall wait with baited breath for your comparative impressions of those two planes given that you, in stark contrast to a certain high-profile hand-tool guru, actually know how to use yours to their full potential! AFAIC the Veritas plane, like all similar planes marketed as general bench planes.... well, they're a solution in search of a problem 😞😠 Every prospective buyer should be firmly reminded what the original Stanley was designed for, and then fairly bluntly informed that they're harder to sharpen for (less tolerant of minor sharpening variations). Plus the Veritas iterations have that gross handle - too upright, too deep, and too far from the controls. Obviously the most direct comparison to a decent Bailey-pattern 5 or 5 1/2 will come from the Clifton. I'm sure like fair comparisons almost invariably conclude all the touted advantages of Bedrocks and Bedrock-style planes are shown to be theoretical. [And if the user is one of the few who is habitually in the habit of opening and closing the mouth the ramped plane of the frog bed is in fact a _disadvantage_ as you know.) So all in all I'll be genuinely shocked if you find it any better to use, except maybe for the feel of the controls due to reduced slop/backlash. But that's so minor a point once you've gotten used to it (as 99.9999% of us do) I personally can't take it seriously as a deciding factor...... unless it's for the "oh look, shiny" factor, in which case more power to someone's wallet 😁
