Been waiting to see a video of a carpenter that cuts to fit. That’s how I do plumbing. I’ve had home inspectors tell me my plumbing needs to be exposed for people to see. I just started playing with wood. I don’t like nails or screws, so I’m looking forward to the challenge! I would rather create the tools I need. Wonderful video.

If the beam is of a stable hard wood it should. Obvously, the beam should not be made of soft pine or balsa wood, or any other wood that dents just by looking at it the wrong way.😁

WBW: "Man I love walnut"..."such a nice wood to work.., Me: Man if I sawed that piece of wood on a Monday, I would have to take the rest of the week off to get over it. Along with a good sharp saw, I would also need 4 tanks of breathable oxygen and a bungee cord hooked up to my elbow. Good job brother

Have you tried transferring the drawing rather than glueing the paper down? If you go over the back with a really soft pencil you can then draw over the lines to transfer them. It would save scraping the paper off after.
@WoodByWright
@WoodByWright 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I've done transferring I've done hand drawing I've done a bunch of other methods. I find gluing it on to be the fastest and most efficient. Even if I were to transfer it or hand draw it on as soon as I was done the next thing I would do is scrape The surface to get it ready for finishing.

For anyone wanting a no guesswork way to set a layout for making these without a square to start with... 3, 4, 5 pythagorean theorum, 3" mark, a 4" mark then 5" between them is dead nuts square. EDIT: for a 45 you'd look for a 2.5" measurement between your marks..... that measurement on the 45 is wrong. I really shouldn't post math when I haven't slept in 24 hours lol, but 3x3 and then your length between being just shy of 4.25 (4.243) gives... well that basically gives your standard speed square. 90 degree corner and a 45 degree diagonal. Another alternative to make a layout grid is to overlay a pair of 3x4x5 marks to make a 3x square then use a straight edge across the corners. And while I put inches in the initial post, it works with any equal multiples of 3x4x5, so 9cmx12cmx15cm would also give a right angle.
@WoodByWright
@WoodByWright 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good way to do it. You can also use the circle method. And there's a few others. I find the drawing the line and flipping it over to be the fastest and simplest though. But everyone's different.
@shaunkirby8506
@shaunkirby8506 3 жыл бұрын
My issue with this is if you’ve got the skills and tools to do this to begin with then your 100% going to have a good square anyway
@brunsy1990
@brunsy1990 3 жыл бұрын
@@shaunkirby8506 I maybor may not have run a chop saw through a square... and have witnessed my old man push one through a table saw. When I worked construction my speed squares routinely grew legs. So just because you either have or had a good square doesn't mean you may not need to replace one.

ME AT LOCAL HARDWARE STORE: Where do I find jars of “that stuff?” LOCAL HARDWARE STORE: What stuff? ME: It comes in a crusty old jar; James Wright grabs some in his hand, smears it all over and it makes the walnut really pop. LOCAL HARDWARE STORE: Aisle 42. If you get to the “other stuff,” you’ve gone too far. ME: Of course. It’s the answer to everything.
