So my favorite motor is weird; being a fan boy of Zeds amps early in my car audio journey, I fell in love with a motor from Lanzar shortly after. In the early 2000’s before the opti’s sub line became a decent budget gem, I came across their HRWDC line. I still use the subs today, and to me, they’ve stood the test of time and have yet to disappoint in all the demos I’ve given throughout the years, and more recently, gave me solid results in the OSSPLC paired up with an old fosgate amp. But anyways, I Appreciate the time and effort you put into your content. Looking foreword to the next one!!

Great video brother very well explained! It funny speaking to some of the older competitors from the 90’s, they used to glue weights under the dust caps to increase motor force. Not sure that actually worked but it was cool to hear the stories how guys tried to get more DB’s that way.

I know this is an older video and probably nothing to do with this subject, but we now have people out there running single 8" and 6 1/2 inch subs in special built enclosures hitting 160+ DBs When you see some guys dropping thousand of dollars on multiple much larger subwoofers barely hitting 150"s. But I'm aware of the mechanics more now than I did when I was younger and this subject added to my love of installs. The more you know the more you grow :)

The best motor I ever owned I just reconed today is a Resilient Sounds Onyx series. 80+ pounds of motor is just insane to me having grown up in the 80s and 90s I kinda got to witness the evolution of modern subwoofers. I've owned Orion HCCA subs and the Onyx is bigger. It's very impressive.

Hello, enjoyed your video. Really appreciated your explanations and thought they were well done. I have been looking at the trw 17 rotary subwoofer and thinking about their use of the stationary motor and “helicopter” style mechanics to move the blades. I have also been looking at various “voice coil linear motors” made for motion of things other than speakers. IMO it would be interesting to build a rotary subwoofer using a solid mounted coil on the base and “spin” the magnet on the shaft and use the air gap in place of a ball bearing “swash plate” arrangement. Hence why I found your magnetics video informative. Managing a spinning magnet and coil gap certainly presents some new challenges but some opportunities as well. It would be attractive to build a rotary subwoofer for less than 23000$. Cheers, great video. EE Duane in Canada.

I love incriminator audios subwoofer designs. All of their subs look amazing. I’ve owned a lethal injection 12” and regret selling all of the time. So much so that I’ve been thinking of ordering another lethal injection or a Death Row. I just hate waiting on custom built subs as I’m very impatient 😂. That Lethal injection LOVED the lows.

The original Stroker motor like you mentioned, as well as another “pancake” that always stuck out to me was the PPI Flat Piston Pros. After that it was the earlier Digital Designs motors(A,B,C versions), they weren’t anything substantially out of the norm but they just looked really good to me, just clean polished ferrite and chrome. I seem to remember they used to have one supposed “SQ” orientated series, the 9100 line, that had a really unique looking motor structure as well.

@nate0 Motor force and power handling are two independent characteristic and often they are opposing. For instance, one way to increase motor force is to increase the number of windings in the gap. This means you'd be using smaller diameter wire on your coil. in order to keep the same impedance, the winding height would be shorter and the coil will handle less power than a taller coil with larger wire.
@joecool7165
@joecool7165 2 жыл бұрын
@nate0 Power is what makes the motor move. You need to do a smaller box and more power. This is better than to Speakers. Do you only need one you can hit 170s if you do it right

So I have a question how much does motor Force play into compared to cone area let's say you have a 12-in sundown SA v1 and you have a 10-in sundown zv5 what would potentially be louder given the woofer was given the perfect enclosure per specs and power? If you could touch on that that would be fantastic

Could you do a recone on the cirwin Vega stroker? It would help me alot. I have an early 90s cirwin Vega octigon 15" car sub that I am trying to recone but I am a bit lost as far as how much depth they're supposed to be from the voice coil to the Mount Pole is it pretty much the same as that cerwin Vega you have there so I take that the voice coil just needs to be on the top surface also on this one?

Do you think you could go more in-depth on the Fi Audio subs and the pros and cons to their motor structure?

I know it's an old video but on my 200oz motor off a 15" NVX I rebuilt into a 10" how does coil winding height affect it the oem 3" coil had a 2" wide winding width and the coil I was sold is like 1 5/8ish? Both 4 layer It works fine I'm happy but just curious. I was able to bottom out the 15 a couple times with the original 2" windings so figure the shorter windings prob wouldn't as one plus? Also the original was aluminum and new coil is copper.
