Id definitely like to see an update on this particular terrarium build.

I went foraging recently and accidentally brought home two isopods. I built them a little home. One is quite young and spry, a busybody who I rarely see. The other I'm concerned about, its a bit lethargic. Clearly older than the other, too. Not sure if its stressed, elderly, or sick. Anyway, I'm just keeping them for a few days to get them healthy and strong, then I'll release them somewhere nice! I love some captive bred isopods, but I feel a little guilty for kidnapping these two!

I have new pet isopod and ive fed it a bit of apple that it has nibbled on. Sometimes he stays still and doesnt move and i get worried that somethibg is wrong. Do you know why it does this?

@@DarkShadow_2013hi, isopods like many animals need to sleep. that might be the cause

@@CoreHope1331 ik that but even if their not sleeping they still do it at random times

Aren't the possible litters going to be able to crawl through those holes? I'd put some mesh over it. And don't these Gestroi require an ample source of calcium like eggshells/cuttlefish bone?

Do they need to be fed at all? What kind of substrate? Awesome build
@CaffinatedCoffee Жыл бұрын
They should be pretty self sustaining, eating the leaf mulch and decaying plant matter.
@dogandcat3672 Жыл бұрын
Probably not unless the plants grow a lot, especially when they start reproducing.
@carl-wheezer Жыл бұрын
You can give them little dried shrimps or pulverised fish flakes from time to time, but it's definitely not a daily treat. Mine also enjoy tiny scraps of left over fruit & veg, but be sure to remove anything left as it can attract harmful fruit flies. A source of calcium is very mandatory so make sure to give them some crushed eggshell or cuttlefish bone

Definitely not once they breed. They will starve.

Does this also work in a sealed jar without holes, do the moss and plants provide enough oxygen for them? I use weck jars
@bastis.17513 ай бұрын
Oh thats an interesting question I would also like to read an answer.
@jennabarton4332 ай бұрын
I discovered two woodlouse in one of my sealed jars. They've been in there a few days and have both independent shed so I'm guessing they are growing and doing okay. I have some egg shell and moss and stuff growing in there along with some wood but I do open the jar every few days. I think it's possible but if the population grows and they use up the air faster than the plants can produce then that would become a problem.

can you put woodlice and springtail terrariums in direct sunlight?
@blackwolfll6105 Жыл бұрын
No... They'll die within a day 😐🤷🏻♂️... Unless you don't have a top or a lid on their container but even then the dirt will dry out and they need moisture to breathe 🙂🤷♂️.
