Be monks. How true that is! Monks played a huge role in my conversion to the Catholic faith, simply because they were being faithful to their call. The ones that I encountered while discerning my journey towards the Church all of those years ago still is lovingly burned into my memory. Thank you so much for this, Bishop! Pax!

I am a Benedictine Oblate of St. Meinrad Archabbey. There are over 3000 Oblates of St. Meinrad. I have seen the evangelizing power of Oblates, done through the principles of the Benedictine Rule, the idea of community in our own parishes, especially now this ideà of community fosters love, consideration and caring.

I was received as a guest in the Trappist Mount St Bernard Abbey in England over 30 years ago. I spent a week in retreat there and it deeply affected me, I have returned many times since. I learned to pray the rosary there, the chaplet of divine mercy but more than that, I was introduced to the daily office which has stayed with me ever since. I think that the recitation of the psalms throughout the day and every day, even in an abbreviated form is the great hidden treasure of the praying church. If only more people could do this, what would that release in the life of the church?

The West's debt to Benedictine spirituality is simply immeasurable. Their vow of stability is also tremendously important and has a very profound meaning, because on it depends the value they attribute to a beautiful environment and why they value building beautiful monasteries so much. My favorite Benedict rule is the one that reads: "The reason why we have said all should be called for counsel is that the Lord often reveals what is better to the younger" (Chapter 3). This is a sometimes forgotten spiritual foundation of democratic reflection.

The Rosary that I use is themed with St. Benedict, with the St. Benedict's exorcism medal on the cross. However I don't have much insight or knowledge about the life of St. Benedict, but that he was a monk and he founded monasteries, the famous one at Monte Cassino, destroyed by allied bombings during World War 2 and rebuilt. St. Benedict ora pro nobis.

I've been blessed very often by Benedictine hospitality, too, especially through Liturgy. A word of advice, though: Especially if you're a woman, check prior to your arrival to learn whether or not a particular Benedictine community will let you stay overnight. I almost panicked once when monks in a very rural and sparsely populated area thousands of miles from my own community informed me that unless I was a relative of one of the monks, I could not stay even in the guest house, since I was a woman, even though I was there to carry out my community's mission. For some reason I don't recall now, I hadn't made arrangements beforehand, and since I had visited there before, I knew how welcoming they were otherwise. Providentially, a cloistered women's religious community nearby bent its own rules and put me up for one night in the rooms sectioned off for women who were discerning a religious vocation! God's sense of humor.

What a wonderful story about washing the dishes! This was always my least favorite chore, because it seems like it's never finished. Once the sink is empty and clean, here comes another dirty dish! I was in a challenging place in life some years ago, and I was washing the dishes yet again. With no warning, I found myself in tears, washing a plate, first the face from the center to the rim, and then carefully turning it over to wash the back, from the rim to the center, making two spirals, front to back, and then rinsing the soap suds in a stream of warm water. With this simple movement, and the water on my hands, I found myself centered and released from anxiety and tension, and I literally just stood there in tears, *grateful for the gift of washing dishes.* It is imperative that we do something physical, with our hands, every day. As a species we were making and using tools long before we could speak, and I think our brain still longs for the simple, creative, physical activity that something even as mundane as washing dishes - turning an object from one state to another. Bless you, and thanks for this story!

As an engineer much of my work is theoretical/intellectual before implementation. In implementation I should leave it to artisans who are more competent than I. So I too find a form of comfort in "doing dishes". While I was researching for my Masters' thesis, I'd grab at an opportunity to do basic manual work. I ended hanging up the washing to dry. This type of work is therapeutic.

Here is a dialogue grounded a in deeply inviting spirit: « BE monks » and then conjugate your DOING to who you are (« Guiding others on the path to God ») and leave what results from your DOING in the hands of God. This conversation nailed down the christian life equation: BE the unique gift God entrusted you to be for the world, then DO accordingly to that beingness and leave the HAVING i.e. the outcome, in God’s hands - just as those monks have no havings of their own. This is so compelling compared to the other two equations: I do in order to have in order to be what I do. Or I have in order to do stuff to be the stuff I have. Levis Shalom

@@noxvenit Interesting. In the process of your conversion did you ever investigate the foundational ties to the earliest Christian after the apostles to the Catholic church. And if so, what is one major factor that contributed to your conversion. This is not meant to pursue any argument.
@noxvenit
@noxvenit 2 жыл бұрын
@@arkofthecovenant6235 I did investigate those ties and found the connection between what the RCC today and those earliest Christians to be tenuous, sufficiently so as to induce me to believe that, against Protestants, the RCC was a bit extreme in her posture towards them, even post V2. As to one major factor, there really wasn't one. But if pressed I would say it was my coming to agree with Protestants about justification (ie., by faith...alone). I couldn't argue myself out of it, and knowing that anyone who affirms that is anathematized it seemed best to leave. There were other things which I started noticing in my childhood, but I shrugged them off, such as: Mariology/Co-Redemptrix, veneration of saints, transubstantiation (my view was closer to the East's), the papacy itself, and some others. In many respects, reading Luther's 95 Theses and studying Rome's reaction, I decided Luther's concerns received harshly short shrift and were summarily dismissed. I've since decided it was because he ran afoul of a fund-raising scheme between the Pope and the Archbishop of Mainz. I mean Luther's 97 Theses released a month before the 95 were more pre-Protestant than the 95 which were still pretty orthodox, but made the error of challenging papal usurpations. That is about as brief a summary as I can give. I'm open to answering further questions, should you have any.

@@noxvenit Thank you. I like to understand human endeavors from a cultural anthropology or historical view.However, because I’m just a blue collar worker who likes to read when I find time, I sometimes find myself lacking sufficient information. I suspect Luther wasn’t operating from the secular notion of the ego but was responding to what he felt was Church corruption in light of how he saw the gospel. This is just a suspicion. Human beings have always wanted and tried to save themselves from their own sins and earn their own eternal salvation. It is part of our sinful nature to do so. But there is no amount of human good works that could ever satisfy the demands of perfect holiness before YHWH because we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). But Jesus, The Christ, was SINLESS and He satisfied all the demands of perfect righteousness. So He shed His own blood and died for our sins in order to redeem us. Then He rose from the dead and victoriously offered that glorious gift of eternal life to anyone and everyone who believes in Him and His promise to give us this gift. Hallelujah, What a Savior!! AND NOW we are FREE in Christ - at LIBERTY to LOVE OTHERS! Shalom

The Holy Ghost pours out his Spirit and brings the increase in the name of Jesus. The latter rain proceeds the second coming and it is what waters the seed. Without the Spirit of God no one is saved. Believe in your idea of Jesus till the end of time, it does little good. You need to accept his ambassador and representative. So when the Holy Spirit shows himself and is rejected that is the unpardonable sin. To grieve the Spirit of God is to reject life. The supreme witness of Jesus Christ (King David) is reporting for duty. He was a man whose tongue held no lies, For he was the direct descendant of our father in the heavenly skies. Born to a body of fleshy sin, Though what laid beneath was unlike the rest of his kin. Jesus had the utmost grace, Never being wavered by evils face. He was wise beyond any years, Performing miracles that would bring crowds to tears. A beacon of light on top of a starless mountain, Where words of wisdom poured out of him as if there ran a cosmic fountain. His eyes pierced through you with a single glance, Leaving even the most hardened individuals in quite the trance. The Holy Spirit so ever majestically flowed inside this man, Naturally people caught notice and became a fan. Students began showing up from every mold, When they heard his words their hearts were sold. Wicked men put a price on Jesus's head, He was wanted alive or dead. Despite this he and his disciples continued their teachings, Where on occasion they endured terrible beatings. One of the twelve apostles turned to black, No longer having Jesus's back. Judas Iscariot had done Satan's bidding, And it is in hell where he now is sitting. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our shortcoming, However don't be saddened for if you believe in him you will see him at your homecoming. There he sits at the right hand of God's throne, Being the voice of truth and love that we all have known. Satan's tongue is coated in a layer of deceit, And he tramples over promises with his feet. He's a being who is bound by deceptions, Whose very essence oozes with misconceptions. He struggles to look you in your eyes, For his gaze holds nothing but lies. On occasion he will give you his hand, But don't be fooled by his stand. He seeks to corrupt your heart, You would be wise to avoid him from the start. Seeking quick pleasures and casting aside love, He traverses this land with push and shove. Now Lucifer was once not lost, But pride blinded him at a cost. Disobeying God he waged war, Becoming detestable to the core. Today he is the ruler of Earth, Though for all his power he has no real worth. However most of us have still been sold, Giving into sin and becoming cold. Nearly everyone is a puppet dancing on strings, Marching to delusion for their unjust kings. My people have given into lust, Becoming robots full of rust. However you my child are the exception, So when you meet me don't forget to mention. That you alone have been granted the key, And before your glory they shall all bend a knee. P.S.- Not too long ago I was very bitter and destructive. Literally I was covered in blood from head to toe and ripping off nails and things of that nature. In my mind Jesus was against me, he had a vendetta against me which I couldn't account for. Then slowly but surely I started having these revelations, and began delving into the word of God. It seemed like my agony was not in vain. The things which held me back eventually began to propel me forward. The darkness began fading away and an unspeakably bright light was surfacing. Jesus told me that he had to break me in order for me to rediscover who I really was. Sort of like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Today I am almost fully healed in every conceivable way, and things like being a virgin and being covered in scars I strangely enough take much pride in. I took up my cross and followed Christ and in doing so I discovered the greatest love of all.

Gay sex doesn’t hurt anybody. If you don’t support the church marrying gay couples I can understand that, there’s certainly grounding for that in scripture and obviously Catholic tradition. But it’s a dumb topic to get mad about. It becomes bigotry *if* you give it an outsized role in your views/don’t stand up in a proportional manner to far more important sins

@@thebacons5943 The Catholic ethical framework is based on Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, not utilitarianism. We believe in natural law and virtue, not this ridiculous idea of “do whatever you want as long as you don’t harm anybody else.” By the way, it does harm someone: the people involved and the people who will get converted to homosexuality as a result of its being socially acceptable, people who otherwise would have had wives and children and families. So yes, it is a grave sin, totally against natural law, and the Bible even prescribes the death penalty for it. If you think it’s fine you are in disobedience to Jesus and the Catholic Church, which has always clearly taught that this is a serious sin.

@@ubermensch4304 fair response on Catholicism not being a utilitarian belief system. @@jimselimos4863 ,so u admitted that trinity is man made,actually turah&bible were from god but they had been corrupted afterwards as a result god sent down quran upon prophet muhammed&god said i`ll preserved the quran thereby god had fulfilled ,let me show u friendly&honestly the truth,okee dokee.sheding the light on christianity to know the truth first of all there is no original bible the 4 main bible are contradicted to each other yet there is 1 quran but who is the writer of bible the answer is paul the jewish who hates jesus let us discuss about the significant event which is crucifixion why does your claimed god left his only son to crucify without any sin he had committed the disaster reached its uttermost when u found bible said on the tongue of jesus my god my god why do u forsaken me means jesus never crucified willingly have u an idea why do they crucify jesus because it`s a penalty of impure &particularly crucifixion because dindn`t touched the earth make it impured that what paul said jeasus get impure for us &see the authentic god what does said in quran chapter 3 verse 55 by the name of god the most gracious&most merciful , O Jesus, I will take you and raise you up to me, and purify you from those who disbelieve, and He will place those who follow you above those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection, then to Me is your return, so I will judge between you regarding that in which you differed,the authentic god rose jesus to the sky before they kill him in addition he had purified him from a false accusation that he is impure,let alone of many verses in the bible incites to violence thus u found the largest massacres had happened in history the ww1&2 christian countries against christian countries 100 millions had been killed not to mention the sex stories in the bible nay u never found a single sex word in quran,don`t take it in personal just i clarify u the plain truth,bible said woman when she during the menstruation she gets impure &any thing she would touched it will be impure &should stay at her room till had done of it don`t see that an insulting to woman &how does the claimed god in bible said so he demeans& underrates his own creatures, yet islam honored the woman &she has a complete chapter its name women show us her rights,let us look at modern medicine which refutes the bible, ovulalation happens every 28 days from overy next month from other ovary when fertilization fails to happen mestrual bleading happens it always stops when a female gets pregnant ,menstrual cycle ovulation the female genital system consists of one uterus to overuse vagine& externat genital organs ,,the blood during menstruation could cause diseases to spread and that’s why a woman during her menstruation needed to isolate so the blood would not be passed around to other people And diseases not be spread that`s what god said in quran and they ask you about menstruation say, isolate women don't come near them untill they get purified verse 222 chapter 2.peace man

@@lufhopespeacefully2037 no, i failed to "admit" that, i said that it only took the Church a while to ACCEPT the Truth that the Holy Trinity is, was, and always will be with us all. i trust that all of us can work PEACEFULLY together without looking at all our many differences.

Hi. The Trinity is definitively mentioned. Blessings. Mark Chapter 1 ... 9 It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. 11 And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” John 15 ... 26 “When the Advocate comes whom I will send[ you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. 27 And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. @@jimselimos4863 Jim. The Trinity is mentioned in Mark, Matthew and John. The baptism of Jesus is a lesson in the Trinity. At the end of Matthew, Jesus says, "go therefore and baptize all nations, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
