I like Star Trek Invasion and I think it would be great to add the Typhon class as an official ship class to Star Trek.

Carriers don't make sense in space, because there is no way to provide adequate cover. Space is not a dark forest; there's no cover and everything is clearly visible, even from millions of light-years away. Enemies have a straight shot from all conceivable directions, unless you're in low orbit around a friendly planet, in which case enemies "only" have a straight shot from _half_ of all conceivable directions. A ship that relies on a fleet of tiny deployable fighters to project force and provide defense is a sitting duck and will get blown to bits before the opening credits are finished rolling.

@@deusexaethera Actually it is capable of being in a fight especially in the game it was able to face other vessels. It is more designed to carry more fighters.

I'll just say it, "The Typhoon looks like Star Trek does the Battlestar Galactica" It literally has everything to be Trek's version of the a Battlestar except it is a slow vessel for no reason other than "We don't want it to upstage the regular starships". But this is nothing new. I'll just butt out now.

The Doofus of a Developer who originally created Star Trek: Invasion, was probably one of those "totally up his a$$", Star Trek fans, who was, what those who were in the "Blue-Water-Navy", waaayyyy back in the day, used to call, "Battleship-Sailors". The effing mentally-constipated, mindset among a great number of Star Trek starship builders was, "No Starfleet Ship could be even remotely equal to their beloved USS Enterprise; after all, the Enterprise is the effing FLAGSHIP of Starfleet! I agree. Worf is my favorite character and they really did Jadzia dirty when they offed her for no apparent reason. It added NOTHING to the story. Unless Terry Ferrell wanted out of her contract. Again one of my favorite characters. Her and Worf, magic together.

Terry Ferrell did ask to leave because she was cast on Becker. She was upset with how they handled Jadzia's departure, though.

Basically what apparently happened was that she asked for a little less screen time as she was working on Becker at the time, the response from Berman / Paramount? Axe her completely.

I loved the Valkyrie design. Thankfully the modders Stellar Parallax also loved it enough to add the Typhoon and them into their Sins of a Solar Empire mod Star Trek Armada 3. So we can see them again in more detail than a PS1 game could handle. I also recall the Dev team on Invasion also bring the one/some of those on the seemingly forgotten Starlancer. The pseudo Wing Commander to Freelancer/Privateer.

Fell in love with this ship and the Valkyrie fighters when I first played Star Trek Invasion on the good old Play Station. Hell I think I still have the CD and Game Box.

LT Jack, you will be happy to know that, while it has not been shown on screen, in the Picard prequel novel, The Last Best Hope, it was confirmed that after Picard was promoted to Admiral to lead the Romulan evacuation, Worf (who had been promoted to full Commander and was serving as Picard’s XO) was promoted to Captain and appointed the new commanding officer of the Enterprise-E

I love the design paradigm of the Typhon class, it looks more compact and rugged, like a even tankier Defiant class. Mixed with other classes DNA, it would show a more militaristic Starfleet, such as a streamlined version as a hybrid Defiant/Prometheus (without the silly multivector attack mode) ect, if you wanted a fast looking deadly Capital ship. Basically a single hull armoured wedge with four nacelles integrated tightly against the body without pylons. Such a ship would have been jaw dropping as the copy/paste fleet at the end of Picard season 1, and would have been a visual reference to Starfleet having run out of f◾◾ks to give, after the Dominion War _and_ Mars. And they could have gotten away with using a lot less ships on screen, since when frigate/destroyer sized Defiants turn up, you know the other side is in trouble - you don't need to spam a hundred ships in violation of previous canon about fleet numbers ("Oh, we just happen to have 10,000 crew on standby") in order to look serious.

One of the concepts around the Akira class has it as a carrier type with its saucer having s flight deck throughout allowing them to enter at the rear and exit out the front. We didn't see that on screen of course so it is resigned to designers notes.

I recall reading somewhere the reason Star Fleet didn't use Fighters was because the ship's we're So Powerful the weapons on a fighter could not penetrate the defensive shielding

About 00:24. 'Mr. Woof'. I about peed my pants. Reminds me of Majel Barrett playing Lwaxana Troi (Deanna Troi's mother) calling Worf 'Woof'. Or, 'Mr. Woof'. Can't remember exactly. But, Worf's eye roll in the episode makes it even funnier. Yes, I don't remember the episode either... sorry... perhaps season 5 episode 20.

I bet the odds that one of the first Jupiter Class carriers ever purchased in 2015 getting named the U.S.S. Typhon NCC-85808-A is extremely high. I hope the devs do this themselves as an easter egg in a future episode.

It's always an addition to the fleet, by showcasing any and all classes of StarFleet. As with our modern Navy , in all of our home countries , it just fit's as does some of the fleet jargon of vocabulary s the try to include so many saying's and more from so many eras . I remember Seeing a similar typhoon class Ship alot bigger with 6 warp nacelles instead of 4 and it had 2 bays in the back that carried two defiant class ships as well as all the Valkyrie fighters on board not Canon of course but I thought it was a cool idea big mobile starbase like ship pretty much serves as headquarters for fleet admirals out in the field.

I hope we get this in STO. We need an escort sized and mobility ship with 2 hanger slots as a full carrier. Also imagine a carrier pet version of the Typhon with it's own fighter pets. Think of the shenanigans.

what seperates the Typhoon or Typhon class from other common star trek carriers is its trait or console known as Fortress mode and the fact that its build would be classed as a pulse phaser and quantum torpedo type build but can be changed whenever possible into any other pulse weaponry build to also utilize the fortress mode build too along with those Valkerie fighters (currently STO) along with several other ingame STO fighters too

That in itself is true since Picard stated that the Typhoon itself was catagorized as a mobile outpost since if it was bought into STO it would have to have a secondary trait known as the mobile outpost trait meaning Cryptic would have to add a code meaning STO player player ships such as Sovreign classes or ships bigger than the Typhon or bigger would allow the typhoon to dock and carry the ship in such things like warp and various places

@@FLAME4564 no fortress mode would be it's special action ability. Mobile outpost would be for it to summon one Cruiser class ship or higher in low health conditions. That cruiser would then use healing abilities to support the ship while the ship automatically uses energy buffs in return.

Man, I loved Star Trek Invasion. I loved space shooters, so Colony Wars was my jam, but then this game came out. I liked it because the enemies were actually smarter than in CW. I remember there was one mission that I thought was a pain when the Typhon was in fortress mode. It irked me to no end as a kid but that game was fun. It also took me forever to get the best ending lol. IIRC, designers/writers for Colony Wars worked on this game as well, so the 3rd type of Valkyrie fighter looks similar to the T-5 Avalanche

The first time i remember Star Trek toying with the idea of 'fighters' was a TNG episode were the crew was ambushed by an alien ship and the crew had their memory wiped and forced to fight in a war between two lesser civilizations. episode "Conundrum". Towards the end they were heading towards the HQ of one of the species and their defensive screen of ships intercepted them. The Enterprise wiped them out so quickly it caused the crew to doubt what they were doing and avoid destroying this species. What i think that episode clearly showed was that phasers were too accurate for the addition of fighters into this universe and shields were too powerful for anything less then a capital ship to damage. In fact up until the episode of W. Crusher becoming a cadet in Star Fleet Acacdemy they were barely mentioned at all and fighters were used more like training vessels. Maybe the Kelvin timeline it would work but not the main timeline. Fighters work well in Star Wars where it was inspired a David vs Goliath theme but Star Trek has always been about Capital Ships duking it out in strategic maneuvers.

That is a bad example given that the Lysians were at least a hundred years behind the Federation technology-wise. We know that the Bajorans and Maquis used "fighter" weight ships, the Peregrine class for example, to great effect against the Cardassians. The Federation later went on to use upgraded versions of the Peregrine, most likely based on the modifications that the Maquis made and using Maquis pilots, against the Dominion.

Who would want to be on a ship, with Worf? He was head of security and yet got beaten up by every guest, woman and child on the Enterprise. The dude had to hide his lunch money in his shoes, hoping an 8 year old bully wouldn't take it from him.

Why would many races use the same ship design? Availability of parts. Once you contact other spacefaring species, you might opt to buy hardware that’s widely available rather than have proprietary hardware you have to fix yourself.

Aside from being slower than top tier starships (maybe max of Warp 8), being smaller, it would have shorter range. So, being dockable to a larger ship and towed to a place would have advantages in deployment.

Huh. A ship class named after the same Greek deity as the Typhon Expanse, the place the Enterprise-D exploded over and over again due to a crash with the USS Bozeman. (I would probably credit it to Q, but he certainly loves rubbing Picard's nose in his "acts of mercy". That alone means Q wasn't involved. Also I guess Guinan wasn't on the ship at the time, because we all know she would have something to say about that loop.) Oh. And the "Typhon Sector", where Starfleet began its engagement with the Borg Cube in First Contact. Typhon's gotten a lot of love, apparently.

Earth is the head of the Federation - attacking enemy capitol directly is known as decaptitating strike - it is a massive move that could end the opposition in one single decisive battle - so it's not just a trope - its sound military tactics. - a bit dramatic perhaps but quite usable and extremely dangrous for the side on the recieving side of it. Look how Janeway crippled entire Borg collective with one such attack if you need an example.

I LIKE YOUR BANTER COMETARY, ps I write in capitals because I mix Both cases when I write on paper, sorties it's to emphasize but mostly because it's easier for others or myself to read what I ACTUALLY WROTE🤣 I wonder if Starfleet will ever have plain old boring peace without one faction or another threat-but I suppose nobody would read the lore if that were the case

I'd love to play a Star Trek game like Elite Dangerous or Freelancer. Start with a small frigate of some generic commercial design, and slowly build up a fleet with multiple ships, capture Federation, Klingon or Romulan ships, build an empire. Or something like an Orion syndicate.
