Work done on an object by a force is equal to the displacement an object is moved multiplied by the component of force parallel to the displacement. Work is a foundational concept for the energy unit and you will not fully understand the equations for energy until you understand the concept of work. In this video I define work and give several examples of using it in problem solving.

4:27 I always got struck in my physical class when I learn about a part, and this part also happened in the video, at 4:27 I always thought that the force and the displacement always need to have the same direction whatever on earth can happen. Like, the object could not move that displacement ( s ) to the right if there is a force applied on it to pull it to the left side. This is what I thought, thats why this makes me confusing a lot to see the image at 4:27 Its just hard to image an object travelled a distance by a force trying to pull it back. I hope I can get some clear explains about my question. Thank you very much! Have a good day! And please forgive me if my question is such stupid a question can be in the universe

for 6:25 i thought work is a scalar quantity hence there is no need of a negative sign. It also makes more sense given that there is a force opposing the object it takes a greater amount of work.

@@AndyMasley oh that make sense, i feel i was initially confused because I thought given the opposing motion present that the value of work done will be greater because now you need more force to push the object.
