Work/life balance isn't about making sure you have equal "work" time and "life" time. If you're struggling to find balance, this one's for you.

Thanks for this great perspective. I 100% know this is not what you're saying, but it does sound a lot like "If you don't have fun and love every moment what you're doing then you're doing the wrong thing."

Good one. You and Gary and others really need to help drive these ideas home. Lots of people want what they preserve as fun but don't realize that the work for us is the fun. Lot of depressed people out there wanting to be you guys when all they have to be is themselves. Great stuff and keep up the positive vibes

You'll know you love something you want to do with your life when that things gets physically hard and painful, make you cry *AND* you still continue to get joy [is fun] from doing it, and find inspiration everyday from others doing that! I cannot imagine how others go through life and are satisfied with their office jobs. That's fine for them, not me.

I find reconciling the lives (habits, rituals, energy, output) of top performers like Tim Ferriss, Tom Biyeu, Chase Jarvis, etc with my situation is not productive from the viewpoint of what I need to to next, what I need to do today and what I need to do tomorrow. Better that these people are mentors with inspirational content from which I can take snippets to use at a strategic level. For my immediate needs - i.e. tactical, day-today - I'm way better just looking over the fence for inspiration from my neighbour who rides 16 miles each morning before work, runs his own business and enjoys his backyard pool. For me it's about how and where to look. Proximal Peers v Mentors if you like.

Thank you for talking about this Chase, I don't see many shining a light on this topic and I'm very glad you have. I have done a great deal with my life so far from working at the pace and hours that I personally like to work at but because I watch people such as Gary and he delivers his message in a way that tells you the truth it makes me work so much harder but sometimes to a point where I do get anxiety and stress out. I find myself guilty of having any down time and if I ignore those messages and have that couple days rest I feel like I've lost, that I'm not a true hardworking creative. So thank you once again for discussing it and I hope you voice this many more times.

For the longest time I felt I was doing things wrong because my work part was 90% & off part was 10% (if that) & all the KZfaq reels showed otherwise. Glad to see a post that tells the truth. I takes commitment & sacrifice, but the reward... a least for me is worth it. Thanks for clarifying & putting it out there.

Yes!!! 🙌🏼 I get rapped up in this on my bad days but here lately I have realized the gold that is taking all these thoughts and lessons others have learned and mixing and matching to make up what works for me.

My life is my work, and my work is my life. Thanks for sharing your perspective! Absolutely agree that comparison to others brings us so much dissatisfaction...I do seek balance in physical and mental, rest and expansion, expression and silent soaking in or listening..seeking flow in all aspects, and catching and soothing myself when I struggle.

totally, do you think building work around your life and living life around work you love is tougher when you have little kids and a family. I get a lot of flexibility as an entrepreneur but often times feel compelled to press into family instead of bringing them into my work... we're taken a trip to the north west for some shows next month but outside of that it's still a lot of late nights and grinding. and you're welcome, I'm gonna be adding more to that dropbox I sent over.

This is an extremely interesting video/talk. This idea of living your dream and chasing your dream and hustling always makes me think this...."what if you have the drive and the desire and the want to just go out and hustle and get it, but you don't know what IT is". Like if you have this crazy burning want to be doing something better, but you don't know what that is, what do you do? Do you just keep searching until you find your passion? Hope this makes sense.

As always another great piece of advice, Chase. As creatives we're lucky to be doing what we love as a career. It's motivation enough to work harder and more deliberate when it's something you're passionate about. It doesn't make the work less hard, just more worthwhile and rewarding!

Great video! I love that your stressing the point of testing out little parts from people you look up & admire. To see what works for you & figuring out what you might actually hate! Really follows on the point of being self aware of what makes you, YOU! & Not just to do it because "you saw it in a fucking KZfaq video!" one of the best points & quote in a KZfaq video!

Great video. I really like the point about having joy even on your tough days. I started a new career about a year ago, and I've had to work really hard to maintain it. There's been some very tough times, but even on my worst days I've been able to take a step back and find some happiness in what I'm doing. I think if you can do that, you're on the right path.

I think it all depends on how you define your work-life balance. My favorite definition is one I heard a long time ago: Every day achieve something and every day do something you like. For me it is more like trying to get everything in a day that I want to do: work and also fun stuff. Some days are good some not, but that's life isn't it?

MUSIC and VIDEO can be a poison. Some people listen to music and think they are "balling" and living the life because of the temporary feeling it gives them. Same with watching videos. U have to always think consciously. Always throw yourself out there in the things you fear so you can force yourself to keep learning. You never need to be 100% like the people you like, just keep taking bits and pieces and make your own awesome LIFE. Kinda like welding. LOL )

"Work" - lol, thought the same thing. Saw a completely content-free video from him about a camera (and by content I mean any facts, any real pictures).. just him and his homies doing faces for the camera and a bunch of girls running around. Then I asked myself: who is this guy? Does he still do that kinda stuff? He does. Seems to appeal to some people. I´m outta here ;-)
