Great job. The only thing I would do differently is to use a key stone and not smash the stones in, and make the wall on top of the bridge higher. The key stone is shaped like a key so it will slip and still keep it's place if the bridge is failing, hopefully.

shame the put concrete between the stones, if anything, that concrete's going to give this bridge a life span of less than 100 years. Given how extensive the foundation work was, they should've just laid bare stone, worked faces, but bare. Neat work regardless.

@aserta : Don't worry to much 'cause the Antic Roman ingeneers used cement, of course a special kind of cement : CaOH + pouzzolane (microscopic powder of Al + Si oxyde, coming from volcano) ... pretty strong in permanent water. In fact, here, the cement has not to be a glue between the stones, it only has to fill the space between the stones. The archictural strategy is to use only the gravity, thus the heavy weight of the structure. That's why the "arc-en-plein-ceintre", typically antic roman ...

I'm not impressed with their mortar work. Two problems: it's cement-based which means it will be harder than the stone and cause the stone to crack, plus there are gaps and air pockets in it. When the bridge fails in a few hundred years it will be due to that incorrect mortar type and the poor mortar work.

@Lifehackerys

@MsValentino2

I work with stone all the time and let me tell you this thing is absolutely hideous. Granite is literally one of the best stones to work with and they didn't even attempt to chisel it or fit the stones together in an appealing way. On top of that they never tooled the joints or even bothered to scrape the concrete out from between them. As a bridge it functions I guess but to put all that work in and to have it look like a giant turd at the end is an absolute shame.
