Welcome to Workholding Systems CNC Router Beginner to Pro EP 03 !
This video is all about workholding on your cnc router. I will show you several methods to fasten your project down to your machine, from double sided tape to composite nails.
I will also upgrade the spoil board we made in the last video with a grit pattern for alignment.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate your thoroughness in your presentations. You are an excellent teacher and your content is superb. I'm brand new to CNC, bought a RatRig Pro and will be studying all (ahem, ALL) of your videos. THANK YOU!

This is a video I wish I had seen a year ago! So much good information packed in to this one video. I especially liked the details on different tapes and CA glues and accelerators. The accelerator I have works well, but it sure does stink!

Probably adding an aluminum back plate to the gantry would be a good improvement for that machine. Linear guides are good if you use a router then adding a high precision collet and nut will be a good upgrade as well (besides moving the a spindle).

@@JBWorx I'm no youtuber, but as a viewer I don't mind and actually sometimes enjoy the reminder to like and subscribe. As sometimes I forget. I know comments help too so many other channels I watch say things they know will push people to comment.

@@JBWorx Remind people to like and subscribe, share links on social media as the algorithm likes it more per click than clicks from YT directly (ask admins in every CNC group can you post links to your channel, specially those like RatRig, Onefinity and such), you talk slow and clear so remind people they can speed up the view (I'm watching yours at 1.5x), more camera angles helps for clarity and some drama effect, add some non invasive music in the background... this should be a good start to accumulate viewers. You rock, don't slow down. :)

What a nice and info packed video! Thanks. Surprised to hear that you are using 1/4-20 bolts. I thought it was only those of us in the US who had to deal with archaic units😃

They have a much better price than metric hardware especially for the threaded inserts. But at the moment I use all M8.

I always learn something new from your very informative videos. Always well presented. My router is currently out of order, having stepper motor issues and waiting for them to be repaired or scrapped. Keep up the good work... Peter

If I may add. For the vacuum plate we can also use some vacuum cards or vaccum fleace materials. So the need for the part material to be very clean is not necessary anymore, also the fleace or card material can help improve the force of the vaccum. This will work for the vacuum plates with holes instead of the grid pathern. For the grid pathern u can use a pice of sand paper inside the peritimeter of the gasket. I use a Busch R5 100cubic meter pump never had issues with a part moving . I generally use the vaccum fixture when I have multiple parts. I leave 1-2 mm material in place then I cut all the parts and index them on the vice and mill the second op. Hope this helps out. Happy miling!!

Thank you Varlan, yes you are spot on even a sheet of newspaper can improve the vacuum by a great deal … the vaccu-card from Datron is pretty cool 😎

@JBWorxStudio I gave the datron card a shout out because if u search online u can find info on them but I only used them once. To expensive....I generally use the Villmill film from Sorotec also the vaccum fleace the ofer either 1mm thickness or 2 mm .very safe and easy to use and cheap. :)

I have to check the sorotec material out I had not seen that, but then for me useless as they are not shipping to the US.

Hello, your channel is pure gold! thank you so much for the insights. One question: how do you remove the CA glue from the workpiece (Aluminium) or do you use CA in a sandwich layout between two layers of tape?
@JBWorx
@JBWorx 6 ай бұрын
Thank you Erik! Yes the glue goes between 2 layers of tape. I have glued small pieces directly to a plate and use some heat to get the part off. If glue remains I just put the part into acetone or I sand it off.

The clamps for the poor people I use: 1. go to your preferred hobby store and buy aluminium "L" profiles of different profile sizes (the thicker is the better, i.e. 2 mm) 2. Return to your shope and make holes with your drll to create elongated slots along the profile length on the long leg of the "L" shape. 3. Refine the slots with a file to provide a smoth place where the vertical screw will pass through. 4. Cut as many profile sections as your holes/slots along the profile length. 5. Your done. Now you have a lot of low profile clamps of different height to be used. The short leg of the "L" stay slightl angled on the spoliboard surface. The long leg push over your plate of material. I use this clamps made of alu-profiles to clamp plastic plates and alu plates with small tools (i.e. max 4 mm of dia)

That is actually a nice idea that I can see to work well. Thanks for writing this

@@JBWorx By simply stacking the alu-profies one over another you can also get the rigidity you desire for any specific clamping needs.
