Man they are great. We love the 30 and 40 series DEERE’s.

The 4230 is a memory tractor for me. I had some health issues in the late 80s and went to my uncle's farm and started harrowing fire breaks in the planted pines. My uncle came to my rescue and created work for me so I love that tractor.

I have a 4040 with 5500hrs, that is a sweet machine. I love those tractors, great reliable machines.

Wes, according to Tractor data dot com the fuel tank is 37 gallons. That model was made from 1973-1977. It's a nice tractor and the hours seem fairly llow for its age IMO.

Wes you can buy a secondary tank for that tractor and probably really cheap too. we have two tractors with secondary tanks on the front, its a real life saver when your tired from working long days you just open the fuel line when your main tank is empty and thats it. i dont know if you can get one for the series though.

Excellent tractor. When I was growing up this would have been the big tractor on the farm. Do the tires have fluid in them? You would think it would be able to pull even a big load up those hills. That is unless the camera dosn't show how steep the grade is. Thanks!!!

4:15 our jd301-a is only a 40 some odd horsepower tractor but if you wind her up to 3000 rpm's she will pull anything you can hitch 'er up to!

Hey Wes. I'm looking at a 4230 with 4000 hours on it. It's got dual remotes in the back and it has the extra joystick and valves but no loader. Do you think 11,000 is a fair price?

Wes you did well for $13k, A true low hour tractor for a collector is less than 1500, but those are rare. I would say for the year, yes it is a low hour tractor for less than 3000 hours. I see a lot of these around 5-8k hours.

I always hated the cabs they put on those along with the 4430 4440 4455 etc it feels like your driving a submarine I like the 4 post canopy cuz it keeps the sun off ya and you can still hear your thunderous 404 :)

I have the sales flyer for the 4230 and it said the only tractor that could replace the 4020 would be another John deere no bigger just more power and this is that tractor the 4230

Mount your camera on the bales facing forward. Then run the 4230 through the gears and back down to climb the hills. Get the black smoke too.

From what i understand i think he uses the 4320, 4430, 4450, 7410, 7810, 8120 and then there's the 4010, 5020 and the 4320 but i don't know if they're used much

Put a turbo and injectors pump off of a 4440 on the 4230 and you'll get some good HP
