The yachting industry is a crazy industry that requires a-lot of hard work and dedication. It's far from the picture perfect images posted on instagram, the industry comes with a lot of highs and a lot of lows. Whilst it has its struggles it also rewards you in many ways.
I share with you my honest experience, real images and footage of my time on board and why I no longer want to be in the industry anymore.
Thank you to those who sent in questions - I hope I answered them with enough detail. If you have anymore questions - comment them on this video and I will answer them as best as I can!
MY CAMERA WAS IN MANUAL FOCUS INSTEAD OF AUTO - SORRY FOR THE QUALITY I DIDN'T REALISE UNTIL I FINISHED FILMING.

This video should be included in the stcw course...I freelance as a yacht chef for years and the number of stews that wanted to know "when can I go swimming" thinking THEY...are on vacation is mind boggling😂 I blame "Below Deck". Great info!

Just a question out of curiosity, how is tip distributed? Is it a big sum for the entire crew split or is it personal, one person gets a specific directly from the gest. If it's split is it split evenly or according to your role?

Any yacht owner that makes a crew work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, for months, doesn't deserve to be rich. That's cruel and heartless. A despicable asshole. I'm glad you got out of it. Terrible thinking that so many are doing it right now. Horrible. But great content. And a very lovely smile. 💯💯❤️

There always needs to be crew on a yacht, even if it's at a dock. When the owner or guests aren't on board, you're doing general maintenance on the interior for stews and the exterior for deckhands. Work hours off charter are M-F 8am-5pm.

Hello awesome video ❤️ , what to do to work as officers in Yacht( captain, chief officer..) . Is there any post of Deck cadet??
@annabellehuys
@annabellehuys 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! To be a captain / chief officer requires you to “work your way up” so starting on deck and then you go to bosun (which is in charge on deck) and then to chief officer (who is underneath captain) and then to captain! You have to still do the STCW course & then extra courses for deck like powerboat course, you need your jet ski license. Things like that ! :)

Can you still get jobs if you just wanted to do it in the summer? I am looking to get into this as a stewardess. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on courses if it’s not going to be worth it
@annabellehuys
@annabellehuys 3 жыл бұрын
you can just work the summer if you want but I wouldn't include that on your CV. But lots of people work the summer then work in the ski resorts during the winter or travel to the Caribbean for their summer with the boat. This line of work opens many doors, you can also work in luxury villas around the world. Once you have done the course it's valid for 5 years so you can always come back to this work if you decide to take a break :)

What’s a typical age for a junior stew? Is it odd if someone starts at 30?
@annabellehuys
@annabellehuys 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! There are a lot of stews aged 30 and over but they are usually chief stew and have been in the industry for a few years - If you're starting at 30 I would recommend finding a solo stew position, working for a family on a smaller yacht where you would be the only stewardess. Plus I think you'd have more job opportunities this way. If you have experience in hospitality or the hotel industry you would find it very easy working on your own. Hope this helped, Megan :)

Hi, very nice video. Have some questions, can u answer? 1. Is 27 years old too late to start? 2. How much body shape matters? And who would consider it, the owner of the boat or, in case, the recruitment agency? am on a journey to drop some weight... it might imbarasd me for the uniform or the swimsuit. Do you think I should put it in the cv? 3. Which languages are required? I speak italian, english, arabic and a little bit of spanish. I read that without french or german you do not find a job..
@annabellehuys
@annabellehuys 2 жыл бұрын
hey! 27 isn't too late to start, there are plus size people in the industry! both men and women. The owner of the boat can sometimes requests certain types of people but not all owners do. I don't think size/weight matters as I've come across all sizes in yachting. I did say in my cv I was active and had a high fitness level just as an extra bit of info but you don't have to. Its completely up to you whether you put it in or not but Its good to keep in mind that some employers do not care. I only speak English and I had plenty of work - your languages are a huge advantage for you, all though some boats request you don't speak the guests language so they can speak privately. But your languages will be a huge advantage! I hope this helps, wish you the best!
