I've been with Amazon for almost three years. First through SMX then I got converted. If I knew then what I know now I would have stayed at Target.

I've been working here for a year now and 90% of new employees last about 1 month.

I started as a seasonal employee and got hired into "Amazon" after peak (Christmas season)... I work at a Fullfillment Center that is 1.5million square feet and has miles of conveyors. I was packing at a rate of 70+ packages an hour, Now I work in a semi automated section and pack at a rate over 300 an hour... if all goes well, I pack over 3500 packages a shift. we trade jobs every other quarter... only two people run this section, four if we run both lanes.

Amazon fulfillment center employment described here sounds like a good job for people under 25, suffering from arrested development, and possess a 'just passing through' mindset.

I've worked at alot of places, but Amazon still ranks as the worst. I was a floor picker, and the rates were just insane. No matter how fast you go, it's never fast enough. Everything counts against you, and there are no breaks except for your lunch. Workers are broken, and taught to give up. I went in thinking I could work hard, and have pride in my job, but unless you work breaks, and have zero malfunctions with the equipment, it's just not possible. seen more people get terminated over rate than anything else. If the equipment jams and requires facilities, then you're screwed and will be written up. Seen alot of people with great rates, but just had bad luck with the machines breaking down and were canned. Glad I don't work there anymore, must have been nice to be a packer, most of us were written up when we tried getting out.

I'm surprised at all the bad comments about Amazon, Over three thousand signed up for a job in Jacksonville two months ago. We are all excited to work...There is no work out here, so to have a job is a blessing. I'm waiting for my new employee orientation that will be in a week or two. I for one am happy to be able to have an honest paying job.

why dont they split up the breaks? why do everyone has to break and lunch at the same time? way too congesting.

i will not work there anymore i did once but if you have any minor back or foot problems expect them to bother you big time with the hours as you never get long enugh to relax enugh to get them better as i worked packing singles and would basically stand in one spot for 12 hours a day 6 days a week and after a week and a day i had to helped to medical for assistence and i was sent home after haveing ice on my back for 5 hours. for me to return i had to have a doctor see me and say i could do it but the doctor refused to do thier paperwork and i ended up leaveing it permently....

I started working at Amazon last year during peek. It was awful haha. I was in pick, working graveyard shift. If you are not used to walking 12-15 miles a day, every single shift, haha then you better get used to it. You only walk 15 miles during peek. During regular time it is more like 10-12 miles. We started with 4 days for the first week, then we went to the 5 days on 2 days off to 6 days on 1 day off weeks. They alternated. As far as points go, you only get 6 points when you are a white badge, before they will fire you during peek. If you have a Dr's note you have up to 6 consecutive days to be off. Write ups last 30-90 days. 3 write ups within 90 days and you're fired. As far as making rate goes, as a picker, it is not always as easy as you stated. If I can pick at least 250 items each quarter and do so with no mess ups, meaning picking before the blue time runs out or scanning the correct item the first time around, no rejections or damaged items then yes, rate will be made. If I have a "Hot pick pack" then I am going to be chasing around, up and down all around. Haha it is not fun to have hot pick as a pack. Having a trans pack is sometimes really good, and ppafe pack can also be beneficial. Trans pack you can get numbers from 10 items picked to 72 items picked. That is a really good pick pack to have. I went one shift where I picked 400 items each quarter, because I had a really good pick pack. I have also had time where I have had single large or single small pick packs and it takes a lot longer to get those numbers up. I don't suck at my job, sometimes it is just the pick pack that enables you to make rate some quarters. As far as blue badges being rude, some who have been promoted to problem solve I have had issues with, not everyone tho. I was eventually converted to blue badge after peek. If you are good at your job and can make rate and are in good standing then there is a good chance that you can be converted. Most people want to be converted into a blue badge. It does have it's perks. Vacation time, VTO-voluntary time off(not paid), VET-voluntary extra time(paid), PTO-personal time off(paid),etc. You also get $300-$400 worth of stock, with interest that goes up every year. They offer decent health care plans, if you don't have health care insurance already, and they also will pay for like 95% of your school after you have worked there for a year. You are so right about the microwaves in the break rooms. During peek it is so hard sometimes. Haha we were just talking about it the other day, how you might as well bring sandwiches or something you can eat cold. Anyway, enough of my short novel. Great informative video!

I worked from home with Amazon 2015 to 2016, it was fairly simple training and the pay was pretty descents, plus there were lots of cool prize for performance. I worked during peak season which is starting black friday, up to new years.

pros=ok pay, good benefits, paid time off , vacation , 4day shifts cons= can't make more than 13.75 in texas !

since a lot of people are watching your video. No working at amazon as a full time permanent employee is not such a great idea because 80 percent of the workers get fired each year. Only a few remain at amazon full time building that have been there for more than 3 years everyone else is fired or quits. I know because i've worked at amazon for various years at various amazon warehouses like the delivery station, the sorting station bot the full and part time building. If you want the deep dirt on amazon i know all of it. If you going to work there expect only to work there temporary because most employees are going to get fired. Most get hired in fall and winter during the holiday season but 60 percent are laid off after new years day. If you get 2 or more points your basically being fired after new years day. Its better to quit before you get fired because if you get fired you can't reapply for more than 1 year since they keep track of you. You should not overwork yourself if your still a seasonal temporary worker because amazon fires anyone who gets 2 points or more during the holiday season. But they are lenient to employees especially in part time building during the holiday season. Of course this in the part time building but in the full time building as long as you work a quick pace and don't make mistakes you should be fine however after holiday season that's when the managers start lying about the scan rates and the error rates. During the holiday season too many new employees try to work there ass off thinking amazon wont fire them but sadly its during this time that managers really don't pay attention to work rate since you can basically walk around in different sections doing a little bit of work without getting caught but they are more interested by new years if you have more than 2 points to fire you. Reason why you shouldn't work there. They lie about the production/work rate which is called the scan rate. The managers are suppose to tell you your scan rate for each hour after each hour but they will come to employee within that 15 minutes or 30 minutes of the hour to lie and accuse employees of scanning a low number for that hour though the scan information they are giving is for that 16 mintues or 30 minutes that the system is showing. THey intentionally are told to misinform employees of there production rate and this occurs mainly after the holiday season where they downsize and fire most of the employees. Managers are told to lie by upper managers about the scan rate. That computer system they have is meant to fool you into believing what they are saying so that you don't challenge them. You take them to HR they reshow HR the scan rate for that 15 minutes/30/45mintues claiming that that was your scan rate for that 1 hour. Basically the computer system they are caring around is showing the wrong numbers for your scan rate each hour even your entire scan rate for the day. How do i know this? because i had many managers recheck my scan rate challenging them to the point they got pissed off at me because i caught them lying most of the time. Reason 2. if your seasonal employee if you get to miss only 1 day of work but you can miss more but after new years your fired. After you become full time employee you get 20 hours but its only good if your in part time building but in full time building it means you only get 2 days off as each day is 10 hours so 3 day missed your fired.

Hi very good informative video. I have just completed my first week at Amazon. I work in a fulfilment centre in the UK, it is a brand new robotics warehouse. I was selected to work in outbound, or the docks, and it is a great area to work. You have the freedom to get about the warehouse. But it’s tough on your feet. We pack the parcels into pallets and get them to the trucks waiting to ship them out. The leadership team is a really good bunch of helpful people, the trainers are great too. All they want at the end of the day is for you to do your job. I’m pushing for progression, and learning all the jobs I can in the warehouse. I haven’t had any experience in picking and packing as of yet, but my manager has said I definitely won’t be doing that. On outbound we have a team target to achieve, and no personal ones. Overall I think I could be working for Amazon for some time. Well if I get through peak!

I was Working in Dunfermline Fife - Scotland last year as a Christmas temp associate during peak time. I worked in Customer Returns and the job was fairly easy to hit the targets they given, IIRC 32 small boxes, 24 medium and 12 large. Essentially you were standing a your own workstation ad a conveyor line seperated these zones and employees where to grab boxes of the line, Scan barcodes from the boxes (Return labels) and process them on a computer which will ask you questions such as which type of sealing method does the item have and what type of damage has been done to the box. It was basically a multiple choice question scenario where depending on which you chose would determine which kind of tote it would get put in. Although it sounds easy, Its easy to make errors in as sometimes some of the items you process, they get put into an Audit tote and you will have people who will come around to make sure you are in check. I also worked on decant for Customer Returns which is essentially using those flimsy plastic safety knifes to open boxes for the associates and place them onto the conveyor (Just makes that job a little more easier). I would say personally, Its not amazon that gave me the grief when working there as the team leads were always helpful, friendly and polite, Offered me more training when I needed or asked for it and offered to be placed within several departments in the FC such as Warehouse Deals. The agency I worked under however was a complete nightmare. They would half a point you for being off on the sick, half point for clocking in literally 1 min late (with no regards to their clock in and out system when it started lagging behind, Which it did very often. I would happily work as a FC associate under amazon directly but as a temp associate under an agency, Id rather not. Now I currently work in the stow department at Amazon in Gourock - Scotland. Although Id like to write away with the experiences and stuff, I feel as if I have written enough already lol

Amazon sounds pretty abusive.

It's easy, but you are timed every minute. And it becomes stressful and painful after 7 hours of endless packing. Everybody starts to slow down. And you still got 3 hours to go. Total of 10 hours, is brutal. Better get packing with those boxes and ship em into the conveyor belt. Oh, you gotta talk with your random coworkers, especially while working on the floor. It'll get lonely and depressing if you don't small talk and introduce yourself. But one thing is true. You'll never truly become close buddies with anyone while working at amazon, especially during the coronavirus. And they have everyone working randomly and different areas everyday, you'll never work with the same people everyday.

Amazon requires applicants to fill out a Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) evaluation BEFORE one can even schedule for the hiring event. WOTC allows employers to get tax breaks for hiring certain individuals. Often, these tax breaks are significant. Taxpayers pay for WOTC. Do the math people.

im currently working at amazon in the uk warehouses its not a great place to work , hardly anyone speaks english as a native langauge, the targets are ridiculas and the night work is damaging to your health Dont apply unless your super fit this isnt for just anyone

yeah, tape machines - no tape guns @ all - they have shrink wrap though. I work in an automated Fulfillment Center & the pick/pack rates are seemingly negligible - until you do it for 9+ hrs. daily, week after week for all year long because they always expect high numbers from you whether you're having a good or bad day irregardless.

Amazon delivery station I worked at had the high school vibe. A lot of favoritism, politics, drama.

I've been working Warehouse since the 1980s they're all the same I like to call it the warehouse Shuffle

All warehouse jobs are virtually the same, low wages because the insurance is cheap. Amazon is harder than most to move up, and if you're over 25, it is a little rough having a manger that is fresh out of college. Most warehouses have a no phone role for a few reasons: 1) safety. There is a lot of large equipment moving around and if your face is buried in your phone, you might get hit by those machines. 2) they have proprietary information inside as to how the robots work, what they do, and the inner workings of the company. Even ups has a no phone rule. 3) stealing time. Most people, if they had their phones inside, wouldn't be working. There are regular corporate jobs that are also moving towards no phones because people aren't productive. That said, most warehouses have an emergency line family and friends can call and the message is relayed to the employee, so, the argument about having your phone for any emergency is not valid.

Everyone should remember that every Amazon fulfillment center is different. Where I work everything is laid-back as long as you do your job. The warehouse is 1.2 billion square feet and I get paid 13.50 an hour on night shift. also the building is temperature controlled so no, it is not a sweatshop.

The H.R. lady, asked me why I was in the young adult program, she already knew and wanted to see what I said.Told her I got into a disagreement with a kid.She said "you mean fight?" Assuming, It was my fault. Knowing I didnt have the job. I explained the situation. A kid from another school crimminaly tress passed and assualted and battered me, then came back the next day did it a second time with his buddies, and I'm trying to explain this 35yrs later and he is the one that broke the law. All she needed was a spot light and the H.R. Dept.= Hitlers Revenge Dept.

amazon is a shit hole to work in...and the fact that people aren't getting the packages on time anymore...seems l like they cant find people to actually work there. its one of the worst places I have ever had the luck to work in.

I work there and it's. Not the most hard. Work I just feel most. Of the people who say it's super hard are people. Who never worked in warehouse. So. Just remember if u never done warehouse. Work it will be hard for u coming from. Fast food or office. Work. But. The 3months I been there it's not bad

Im trying to get in with Amazon. Initially I was a little hesitant about it having no actual interview process, but I'll see. I applied to a part-time one near where I live and a seasonal one in the neighboring city. I have the drive to work hard and making decent money, but I've kept myself in minimum wage. Amazon doesn't appear to pay a lot for these positions, but it would be enough for me especially if I could have something to supplement.

Never listen to the negative people, those were the ones that will try to look you down. If you found a way to improve at work, do it. If they had problem about that, then had them show you how they do it. Everyone is different, no company show expect the same result with everyone on every position.

Just applied 2 weeks ago, had my orientation today, looking forward too it I start on the 19th.

Group stretches, morning target setting, security searches clocking in and out, long queues at food prep areas, micromanagement of time...all sound like fun things to do in a fun place to work. Not for me. I worked in a similar American Multinational for 13 yrs and it was hell. It had a large impact on my physical and mental health and my relationships and family life. If you must work in such places make plans to get out as quickly as possible and keep an eye on your physical and mental health. I like that they monitor for drugs because the temptation to take anti depressives and stimulants would be very strong in a place like that esp if working rotating night and day shifts.

The one I work at is walk walk walk your legs off. So far this past holiday 2019 there was not that much ppl at wrap down vs 2017 which was crazy to the point you could not walk to the break room without bumping into one another. The pay tho has gone up ver 2017 which was $11.25. So yeah I'm still there getting the job done.

Thanks for the video. This reminds me to never shop at amazon ever again. I will pay a little more to buy from people that treat their employees like humans. By the way...those catered meals were bought with the money that they never offered you in a real livable wage. The benefit of the experience...if absorbed...will have taught you that you can be appreciated and payed well after finding the correct match AND a good mentor. The odds seem to be stacked against the amazon employees. I say that because life happens...and sometimes circumstances happen that are out of ones control. such as : health issues, family issues, deaths, car issues, and who knows what else may happen... the added stress of losing a job because something could go bad on one given day is a great reason to not work there to begin with. In knowing this and still working there...just remember...it's not a matter of IF...but WHEN you will be looking for work. Always a great feeling to know your underpaid and not appreciated at the same time...NOT! I'll take a pass. Good for you for giving it a shot.

I worked for UPS as a student in Germany and I cannot remember ever taking a bathroom break. Some people are overwhelmed by the fast pace but I actually enjoyed it because time runs very fast when you are busy. I am happy Amazon is handling my packages well.

Couple things: First of all, great video. You tell your experience point blank. No sugarcoating which is what people like myself love. Second, I find it amusing when people accuse giant companies like Amazon, Wal-Mart etc of slave labor and or excessive working conditions, etc. That is a crock of crap. None of these giant corporations are forcing anyone in to working for them. If the working conditions are too hard then quit. Don't sit there and whine about it because no one either cares or is going to listen. Go get yourself a proper education so then you might have the chance of getting a job that you might consider to be cushy (or at least to your standards). This country is full of whiners. People that think by living here means they are entitled to getting everything while putting in little to no effort in return.

I did my drug test/paperwork end of Oct...... My start date was supposed to be Nov 9th. When I didn't hear anything I called they said I passed everything and they were waiting for a start date I'm like 🤦🏽‍♀️. Then they said oh the days and time you originally picked is not available. Then they changed to another start date and STILL NOTHING. Hell the holiday season will be over soon. I'm about to start looking for something else......sucks!

Been working at Amazon fullfillment as Inbound STOW for over a month now. Dont really feel like a slave just yet, except when I'm put in the far east side of the building furthest from the breakroom. In a 12 hour shift our designated 15 min breaks are scan to scan. So its about a 5 min brisk walk, bathroom pit stop, 1.5 mins of sitting to walk back and set up the line to scan again. Doesnt even feel like a break. But positive note, I love my coworkers, the warehouse is temp controlled and the training was pretty thorough. I have overheard from various coworkers the difficulties with making rate as it goes up weekly. During our training week we were told not to worry about rate, just about quality. I asked if we'd be trained later about the best way to stow so we can make great rate and the response was noncommital. Asked around to the stowers who have been there longer than I and some have said that it depends on the water spiders and cherry picking of the totes (which are usually set aside for day shift, while we work night shift), and the checkerboard system. Still, it almost seems like there is a cheat to making higher rate because those that are over 100 with it go slow and have no problems and then the newer ones are stowing as quickly as possible and they barely clear 80. This seems to be what im most frustrated about.

I work as a courier for amazon and my opinion is that they pay well but they want us to work really hard and push our performance on top all the time.. it is worth tho :-) good experience
