Job searching in France was the biggest challenge I have ever had to overcome. I had at least 7-9 interviews before I landed a job I could use my skill set in. I recently landed my first CDI and started with a good startup in France and I am so happy because all my colleagues are super cool, funny and welcoming. Whoever is out there looking for a job right now, I know it’s hard, but don’t give up! Keep your chin up and keep going, because good things come to those who wait and put in the effort!

Very difficult for foreigners you know.....companies hire mainly for internships (which is very difficult too) and then they let you go!! Even CDD is so difficuot to get. I don't understand why these companies don't hire foreigners?!! Forget about CDI (for us outsiders)

The French place a strong emphasis on certification. In the US, someone could list their last job as being a project manager without having the PMP certificate. The French would suspect that someone who lists that as their job title without a certificate is just someone who worked under a project manager, and is deliberately misleading prospective employers.

I loved love loved the tapif program and it gave so many opportunities for staying in France afterwards, whether it was extending the program for one more year, moving towns and doing a year of au pair or english lessons to see something different, getting a masters etc.. Enjoy the TAPIF program and take advantage of all the school time off to travel!! If youre determined to stay afterwards, you will totally make it happen!

I’ve heard that when you come for an on-site interview, you should avoid speaking in English for any length of time when the interviewer switches to English. The interviewer will remember you as the applicant who had problems conducting an interview in French.

Many companies will sign you on CDD before giving you a CDI. Work laws are good for workers in France so you still get many of CDI's benefits. There are strong laws limiting the use of CDDs so at some point(within 18 months at most) the company will either have to give you a CDI or let you go.

Did you enjoy teaching English? I'm currently in France but I need a job. Teaching English might be something I have to do temporarily although it isn't what I desire to do.

Not all Master 2 courses include an internship. It depends on the course of study. For some professional masters courses, it's compulsory. Too old for internship? Never! I got a number of them and I'm way over 40!

@@UnintentionallyFrenchified It took a long time to find them, but I was very picky! I had a clear idea of what I was looking for, within limits. My internships are my calling cards for a new career. I targeted sectors where my age and previous experience would put me at an advantage.

It seems like the French really shy away from changing careers later in life because the workplace is less flexible about transversal skills across different markets. Internships are a great way to get around that. Who wouldn't want their "intern" being someone with lots of previous work experience somewhere else? It's also great if you were strategic about what you wanted and picky! Impressive!

Thank you for the video! Is it (in general) possible to enter straight into the M2 of a master's program if you don't have a significant amount of relevant work experience? I have a bachelor's and I'm currently living in France doing a language program. I would like to pursue a master's program next year, but I've found that a lot of the M1s are in French. I don't think my French will be strong enough by next year to study masters level courses in the language. :/ How likely are universities to accept students straight into M2? Thank you!

Hi Christina, good question! my experience with business schools is that is absolutely possible to apply for an M2 program in english and skip that first year. Since you already did a 4 years bachelor program and the French students do a 3 year program, they are usually flexible even without work experience to go into the 2nd year. I had no problem doing it. I'm not sure how it for a university though. The price per year is so much more affordable and I wonder if they are less flexible letting you jump into a M2 program without having done the M1 program. I honestly think that the university would be the best person to go to and show your level of french and get their feedback. If they tell you that your French is good enough to go for the M1 and not the M2, i wouldn't take it too hard to do an extra year. Sometimes putting the extra time in beforewill pay of later! I did 1.5 years of internships to finally get a job with work experience and 6 years of school before lol. The things we do for France! Good luck finding the right fit for you!!

I'm currently angling for a work transfer. The first interview, they said it was impossible and for the second, they said they would have discussions. LOL Hopefully it works out in my favor. In the meantime, I've been enjoying the Lingoda marathon. I thought I knew an acceptable amount of French until I started speaking with French folks...

I would completely have the French mentality about getting transferred with your company, every time you hear a no, see that as room for negotiation 😂I work for a large multi national company and a lot of people are interested in moving offices and they can't make that work for everyone, so its a lot of push and negotiation and seeing no as an opportunity! My school allowed me to sign up for one more year without doing the classes (or paying the admin fees) so that I could have a convention de stage for another year. It never hurts to ask!!

Is there a list of French companies that hire english speaking (or at least minimal french speaking) foreigners through the new Tech Visa or Passeport Talent? I've heard France is really trying to up their game in the tech world trying to recruit foreign talent to compete with Silicon Valley giants. If this is the case, is it as easy as applying here in the states and then hopefully them sponsoring your visa and doing all that stuff here then moving to France? Even if a French company wanted to hire me, how much time would I need to wander my way into a consulate and doing all the visa paperwork before booking my longterm airbnb and one-way ticket?

Je pense que c'etait le moyen partout en France en 2016/2017. Malheuresement si le moyen est 7 mois, il y a sans doute les gens qui prennent plus de temps. J'ai mis plus aussi!

I am in the same job applying phase now. More than 200 applications and all I have is rejections after rejections. Even for internships they mention so many things as if they want to hire a CEO lol!

Het is waar over de Franse taal. De Fransen zijn extreem trots op hun taal en daarom is alles in het Frans. Op tv, radio, in het ziekenhuis, bij de dokter, zelfs toeristische informatiepunten, informatieborden en veel meer. Met Engels kom je buiten Parijs of een andere grote stad niet ver. In mijn land wonen mensen die na 10 jaar nog de nationale taal niet beheersen en dan alsnog zullen mijn landgenoten overschakelen naar het Engels. In Frankrijk heb je gewoon enorme pech want niemand zal zich aan jou aanpassen.
