Working in Italy as a foreigner is something I receive a lot of questions about. I thought it was finally time to answer some of the most common questions about finding a job in Italy. How to find work in Italy is something we'll probably speak more about in the future as there is still plenty more to say about the subject. Living abroad and living in Italy can be quite the challenge but very much worth it if you really dedicate yourself to making it work if you decide to move to Italy.

One job that one can easily find in italy is caretaker for older people. Yes it is not mentally stimulating and not something one probably dreams about. But can be rewarding and you can find it in small towns too. It can also be something you do part time, leaving time for other things. For reference, I lived in italy for 23 years before moving to other countries of Europe and then to the US, where I still live.

Rafi, You are always full of such good advice. I have been studying the language since March. I love the language and having visited the country twice this year I love the country, the people and the lifestyle very much also. I had a job interview with a Swiss company that had a presesnce in Rome. I mentioned it was Swiss because they were allowed to hire non EU citizens and bonus, they were looking for native English speakers. I let the job go because I couldn't get my family on board with the move. It turns out my dream of living in Italy wasn't shared with my teenage kids. So now my goal is to retire in Italy when I will care much less if my kids don't want to live in Italy. It looks like a much easier dream to make a reality. Thanks Rafi. Ciao. -Joe

Interesting video, I'm an Australian born Italian. I live in Africa an in my twenties, to see southern Africa I drove trucks. I've done Dueban to Dar es Salaam, through Zimbabwe or Botswana. I moved back to Australia and drove trucks in South East Queensland. Back in Africa now. I wanted to go to Italy to see if there was job opportunities there doing the same. I have an EU passport and I speak Italian. I wanted to give it a try before it's too late

The same advice I give to Italians who want to go to the USA: make sure you're qualified and can offer something valuable to an employer. I agree. it's better if your job sponsors you to come over here. If you work for a great company in your country, see if they can transfer you to their Italian branch. If you're in the military then there are plenty of bases here and at that point you enjoy the Italian lifestyle and foreign money. I think the easiest shortcut for English speakers is teaching English. However, the quality of the work can vary greatly! Always be skeptical of the contract.
@RafaelDiFuria
@RafaelDiFuria 5 жыл бұрын
Hey David, as always, great input! In many cases, to have a job sponsor your visa is the only way to come. Without a doubt the most simple way to arrive and live here but not the easiest to accomplish. and yes completely agree about teaching english, unfortunately it can get a bit sketchy. Some times you can get some great work, but it's short term or a really bad position and long term... although finding long term teaching doesn't seem to be the most common. have a great weekend bro!

Hi Rafael! Just found your channel. I got a job offer from Italian company. It's Junior level. I searched on google, what is the average salary on this job.. and the result is around €27K - €35K per year. Let's take €30K/year = €2.5K/month. So I negotiate on that number. The employer replied, "€2.5K/month (include tax). So, €1.3K/month". almost 50% for tax?

If I well understood what your job is about, the best place in Italy where you can achieve your goals is Milan... hope you eventually have come to terms with it after the first schocking experience :-) you will mainly work remotely, no need to live in the city, neither in the metropolitan area, just find a livable slower place not too far from the busy bustling madhouse. Source: a 100% Italian middle aged lady (from Lombardy). Maybe la vita will be less dolce than, for example, under the Tuscany sun, but if you have to pay your bills.....

Hi Rafael! I watched your video and then applied for a job. They said I must have a work visa to get a job. It's like a chicken and an egg! So now I am trying to get the permesso di soggiorno. They said I can also get a student visa. I already have a degree so what is the cheapest school that I can apply to and how long does the student visa take? My tourist visa expires May 15th and I'd rather not be an illegal immigrant but I don't trust the president in America now so I don't want to go back.

@RafaelDiFuria
@RafaelDiFuria 5 жыл бұрын
It malões it less difficult ... I wouldn’t say it makes it easy... just legal.. even though I am a citizen, having not grown up here and with a lack of having perfect Italian it would put anybody at a distinct disadvantage. It’s all about pushing to make it work if that’s what you truly want. Moving to a new country is never easy, regardless of nationality.
@photographedemode
@photographedemode 5 жыл бұрын
Nope, you are legally allowed to live and work in Europe, but that doesn't mean anything will be handed to you. Plus you need to be at least very operational in the native language of the country otherwise you'll only be able to get work as a Dishwasher in a restaurant. My first year in Europe I was a Bartender in an American Theme Bar (which wasn't owned by Americans). Europeans in general don't tip, or very little = being a Bartender in Europe isn't interesting nor well paid. It takes a lot of networking, and language lessons to get a leg up in Europe in General, Italy or otherwise.

Adding a new comment so it's easier for everyone to see! Teaching English here: I can's stress this enough, it totally depends on the contract. I have a good one called ANINSEI which is a national contract for educators and while the pay is just ok, the conditions are just as good as public school teachers, minus 30 voices overlapping each other in an old classroom!! if you are in a big city like Rome, unless you're desperate, don't take the first offer if it doesn't wow you. Or, take it and keep looking. You've really got to be careful as there are some real pirates out there who operate language schools. I once worked for a school that got closed for financial fraud and I lost a month's pay. Another was harrassed by some "shady people".

"The easiest shortcut for English speakers is teaching English".... tried that and found teaching boring as hell, teaching isn't innate in all English speakers. Could you elaborate on other options than just "teaching English" ? I've lived in Italy for a few years and even though I'm fluent in Italian there are very few options for English speakers to make a living because Italian companies would much rather hire an Italian who speaks a little English rather than a real English speaker who speaks Italian fluently. Is this down to anglo-phobia? Ignorance? favouritism? or is it so that Italian bean counters much prefer to underpay Moroccans, Tunisians and Albanians rather than paying a full salary to a real English speaker? Here there is also the backwardness of the country to deal with. Anywhere below Ravenna is like Jurassic Park, really backward and underdeveloped and the only jobs which are available is 'less than minimum wage factory work'. The problem is that most jobs which require English language are found in the north of Italy, for example Milan. In the Marche region however, the only industries which exist are wood cutting companies, furniture and kitchen suppliers and factories, it's really depressing for not all of us come from the woodworking or farming domain. Marche is totally devoid of any other industry and I assume it only gets worse the further south you go. There is something in the Italian blood, a corruption in their DNA which renders Italians incorrigible and exploitive. Italians LOVE their paperwork stacked this high and their mazes of bureaucracy (in the UK, one page would suffice for a typical contract, but in Italy it's 5-10+ pages with each page requiring a signature). Also, many prospering Italian companies which make decent money offer grown adults 500 euros a month for six month probation periods. Italians... the stingiest most tightest-arsed people in existence.
