Hey everyone, thanks for watching!! I've been getting a lot of comments asking how I afford everything while in med school so I posted a video about it. Here it is: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7lyhsSBqM-okac.html

Bro you need to make a video on how to balance school and gym :)

+DRAX hey man thanks for watching! That's pretty much what I intended to show in this video. Even gave some tips at the end but I'd be more than happy to make one elaborating on what ever you want. Typically I stay at home and study all day and take a 2 hour break to go to the gym. Without that gym break I feel very restless from sitting at a desk all day. The day I vlogged was actually more busy than my typical day so it may seem like I didn't study a ton but I probably got 6-7 hours of studying that day.

I hear the number "100" being tossed around a lot when talking to residents/ faculty describing the amount of hours they put in per week. I do not doubt that this is over exaggerated at all so I definitely cannot imagine getting a workout in and eating right while putting all of that time into your profession. It is a scary thought, but exciting at the same time. You're finally doing what you dreamed of doing... Just probably at a much higher frequency than you would like to practice lol.

Like yourself, I take my health and fitness seriously but as you can imagine, when you're doing 36 hour overnight call in the ICU every 4 days the fitness part definitely took a dramatic hit. But anyways, keep doing what you're doing and good luck on this journey

+Kamal Ekermawi thank you very much kamal! And pretty much, I study about 12 hours give or take depending on if we have required clinical activities that day. yes please, it would be great to see videos about your study habits, (techniques), tips, pointers, classes your taking, and things like that! Things you recommend to someone thinking (and hoping) of getting into Med School (albeit not in the US), but maybe there are things that can be interpolated from different countries and approaches to life as a first-year medical student especially! :)

I should come visit you bro. right now I am taking a turn in the career. I am thinking about mechanical engineering working on drones. The long term goal was to focus on lab management. Right now I just workout and go to the gym. keep it up brother, each year, I hear gets intense. awesome juggling the gym,school and personal life, lol. I hear there is a tremendous amount of calisthenic programs out there, I currently reside in Columbia, Sc.

you have great flexibility in attending ur classes. sadly that's not the case with all med schools in other countries. we have to maintain 75% physical attendance throughout lectures and practicals. just to be eligible to answer exams. with all this i still make time to go to gym thrice weekly.
@doctor_ej
@doctor_ej 7 жыл бұрын
+aslesh nice! Yeah I would say I attend about 2/3 of lectures/ activities because they are required. Not everything is optional
@fuccboi2562
@fuccboi2562 6 жыл бұрын
Our med schools are not like that AT ALL. You fail if you don't show up and lectures are rarely recorded. So you spend the entire day in school, and you spend the remaining hours of the day studying. Average sleeping hours for the first two three years of med school is about 4-6 hours. Then little to no sleep on the 4th year because of clerkship. Then almost no sleep for a year after graduation for the Post-Grad Internship. Then around another 2-6 years (depending on the area of specialization) of no sleep during residency training (after passing the licensure examination). Hard to hit the gym during the 10 years of no sleep. 😂
@doctor_ej
@doctor_ej 6 жыл бұрын
That's unfortunate, not that it will affect you, but hopefully your school changes the attendance policy. Playback speed and reducing travel time to and from school is what gives me that extra 1-1.5 hours in the day to hit the gym. Don't get me wrong, I still have my sit in a chair all day long and sleep 4-6 hour days (especially leading up to exams), but I try to get in at least 60 min of physical activity a day. It really changes you, mentally and physically. I'm only in my second year, I imagine my time for the gym will be greatly decreased when I start clinicals and residency.

Hey man I was wondering what programs you used to get ripped what do you think about Arnold Books the encyclopedia could I use it to look like you?
@doctor_ej
@doctor_ej 7 жыл бұрын
+Tom Bob hey! I actually have never used the Arnold books so I can't tell you if they're good or bad. What I can tell you is as a natural lifter, you should try to hit your body parts at least twice a week if you have a year or two under your belt. If you're brand new starting out, I would recommend doing either full body workouts, or separating your workout days into upper/lower body days. Get used to all of the movements and executing them with proper form. Don't worry about the weight. Proper form will keep you safe from injury and produce better results. I do a modified version of a push/pull/legs split. So I lift 6x a week and do each day twice a week. Instead of doing all pushing movements and pulling movements in one day, I actually do chest & shoulders on my first day and back and arms on my second day, and legs on my third day. Repeat and rest on the 7th day. I do this for two reasons. 1) I don't like doing chest and tris the same day because I feel like I exhaust the pressing motion and don't get the most out of each exercise, and 2) I want to focus on my shoulders so I do those first in the week coming off of a nice rest. Ultimately there is no wrong/right/perfect program. Do what you enjoy and what you want to focus on. At one point I was doing legs 3x a week and shoulders 3x a week. The current program I'm on now I feel like focuses on my weak points and gives me the best overall balance.

I'm starting Dental School this October. I have 3 Months after this year of college (July/Aug/Sept) to dedicate myself to get in shape before dental school. Is there any tips you can give me to help lose my fat and get relatively lean for Dental school. Thanks man!
@doctor_ej
@doctor_ej 7 жыл бұрын
+Isaac Khan 12 weeks is plenty of time to make a significant change and you can definitely do it! I recommend coming up with a diet plan that will work for you and sticking to it 100%. Not being committed to your diet will be the number one reason for not seeing results. It will kind of suck but you will be happy you did it by the start of school. One thing I've noticed since I've started school is i didn't realize how much I sit and study until now. So I think it's really good that you've decided to develop good habits before the craziness of school starts. Back to the tips, I have a few dieting videos if you have no clue where to start (check out my education with ethan playlist) the key is to eat at least 90% whole foods, high protein, moderate carbs, healthy fats, hit the gym regularly and get in a few cardio sessions a week. Let me know if you have any specific questions here or shoot me an email. Thanks again for watching!

Hey man, just found your channel and I like the content! I'm currently a pre med student and one of the things I've wondered about and was wondering while watching this video, is how do you pay for everything while in med school? Living expenses and all that, is it loans? I understand if this is too personal of a question but just thought I'd ask.
@doctor_ej
@doctor_ej 7 жыл бұрын
+Matt Acker thanks brother! I pay for everything on my own (except cell phone bill and health insurance bc of a family plan) through loans. I could afford every expense if I had to on loans, but you have to keep in mind that everything you borrow, you pay interest on (6-10% depending on your loan). Nothing has to be paid back until residency though.

@doctor_ej

+Al H yep you're exactly right. It takes some crazy circumstances to drop out. It's almost never academic incompetence. Usually other life circumstances or just true lack of desire from the student. Med schools invest a lot in you so it's in their best interest to get you to graduate.
