@@OmriCohen-Music And I wanted to ask you: I like to mute my gates/trigger signals, because when I try to mute the audio channel, it will occasionally cut off the sound (especially when the track has delay/reverb on it). Do you see any disadvantages to this way of muting?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 5 жыл бұрын
@@6a616e_ Well, that's the beauty of using the Mute8 module because you can route everything through it, not only audio. So let's say, you can send the gates\triggers first through the Mute8 and then to the destination, and like this you can mute the gates themselves. You can also send the audio BEFORE it goes to the delay everb through the Mute8 so when you mute the audio, the delay everb will play the tail.

Another great video Omri, super useful! Janneker and Jooper seem like a killer combination, I will be using those for sure. And that was a really nice patch you were demonstrating! A couple of notes: For switching and/or holding between two different voltages, the Bogaudio:switch module is very effective, especially when used in latch-mode. Also, UMix works fine for mixing pitch-CV, but you have to right-click and select "CV mode" :-) Thanks again Omri!

Thanks for teaching me Jooper! Excited to create some scenes. I usually mute/unmute a 10v signal going to the ‘level CV in’ on the mixer. This would save you the extra work on the stereo channels. Most mixer have relative rather than absolute for the level CV so your mix won’t be effected. Cheers!

This is something that I've been looking for. I can envision using the scenes feature of Jooper to create song structure, and the scenes feature of the reWin quantizer to create chord changes in generative patches. I'll probably need to buy a new computer to handle that many modules at once. However, I've not yet been able to get Jooper to respond to SEL CV inputs the way the video demonstrates; not sure what's up with that. Haven't yet tried to use CV to switch scenes in reWin.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 4 жыл бұрын
yeah, it got an update since this video and it will now work with pitch information so it's easier to switch between scenes. Try using Twelve-Key from Impromptu for example, or even your own Midi controller. Let me know if it works.

Also, what can I do when a module only allows one input/output and the reverb module has both L and R in/out? Is there a correct way to put it in the chain, or to mix the two signals? Not sure if I need to be putting them on separate mixer channels (which would be annoying having the volumes not linked). Idk I'm a bit confused. Modular is overwhelming. Great videos though, I wouldn't have even considered getting into this if it wasn't for you. I'm probably gonna buy your full series eventually.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about it, I'm happy I can help :) Modular can be indeed overwhelming but take it step by step. There's something common to see in modular and those are normalized connections, which means that even without connecting any cable to an input, the connection would be normalized, would be internally connected. For example, most reverbs in VCV have the right input normalized to the left input so by connecting a signal ONLY to the left input, it will automatically go also to the right input and there's no need to make this connection. I don't know which reverb are you using, but there's a chance that you don't need to do anything for it to fully work with both channels. Does this make sense?

The mscHack mixer link isn't working anymore :( Is there a similar module I can use? Also, what if I have number of scenes that's not evenly divisible? Say I have 7 or 11 scenes, do I send a fraction of a volt? Thank you :)
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's now in the manager - library.vcvrack.com/plugins?query=mschack&license=&sort=buildTimestamp About the divisions, try using the volt meter from ML to see exactly how many volts you need for each scene.

Im hoping Omri might give me his opinion here. I like to use samples quite a bit lately and oscillators less and less. I kind of feel like im cheating. should I feel this way or should I b ok with it?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Hi! In my opinion, the most important are the music and the sound, so if using samples is what inspires you, and if it serves the music, I say go for it! I feel the same about presets, AI, etc. Have fun! :)
@bondrebond
@bondrebond 5 жыл бұрын
Omri, I've heard you comment a few times that you don't use aux send/return for effects that much in your workflow; is creating scenes in this manner one of the reasons?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 5 жыл бұрын
Well, that's true, when I make music, I don't use send and return at all, but it's actually not because of creating and working with scenes. I like to think of effects like reverb and delay as instruments by themselves and use them as a sound design tool in the chain itself. In live streams and videos, it's much easier for me to just use sends, and it doesn't take a lot of time to make changes. I hope it makes sense...

@@OmriCohen-Music really weird issue. It seems to have to do something with the audio driver and device I choose. I usually use directsound which works fine. However when I load this patch and choose directsound the is garbled, just cracks and pops etc. But when I choose an ASIO driver all of a sudden the sound is fine. Even more weird that if after loading the ASIO driver I switch back to directsound it is still ok ... after saving the patch with the driver working ok, I can reopen and all is fine... strange issue, but sorted I guess :-D and again thanks for the fantastic, mind boggling tutorial!!! :-D
