Perched on the steep slopes of Córdoba, Argentina, the Workshop House by Agustín Berzero and Manuel Gonzalez Veglia of Tectum arquitectura is a testament to the seamless integration of architecture and nature. Designed for a tranquil lifestyle of living, working, and writing, this 54 m² residence offers a serene escape with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and treetops.
The structure embodies the concept of complementary opposites. Its heavy lower portion grounds the house, while the lightweight upper part floats above, capturing sunlight and scenic vistas. Constructed primarily from reinforced concrete, the house features rough-textured walls that age gracefully, reflecting the local climate and colors.
Inside, the open-plan main area connects directly with the canopy, creating a living space that feels both expansive and intimate. A mezzanine provides a secluded spot for introspection and creative work, illuminated subtly from below. The use of wood contrasts with the rugged exterior, adding warmth and a comforting aroma.
The Workshop House respects its natural context with minimal intervention, preserving the topography and allowing air and water to flow beneath. Its simple, handcrafted construction techniques enhance the landscape, making it a new yet timeless part of the mountain.
