I first heard Bluegrass. I had a pretty good guitar, then traded it for a Gibson J-50. Learned a few bluegrass licks. Played in a couple informal bands. Then I heard Norman and Nancy Blake. Did my best to emulate that style and developed my own in the process. More busking with banjos and fiddles later, I found a cheap mandolin, learned a couple old tunes that could have been called bluegrass. Years later, and working in a mandolin factory, I build myself a nice A-5, which I play old time and Celtic tunes on. Fiddle tunes. There is a whole universe of old time fiddle tune to be played on mandolin.
