If they have to use period correct firearms, they should have to shoot the period correct ammunition. That ammo is vastly underpowered. That lever gun had no kick whatsoever.

Aaand welcome to cowboy action shooting! (Underpowered ammunition is partly for the safety of the bystanders, shooting steel at close ranges could create high velocity shrapnel and ricochets with full powered loads)
