Chad (aussie guy) really did a great job on commentating. He knew what was going on the whole time, he probably saved the event. They will need someone like him on the mic at least until they implement accurate live telemetry of track position to the viewers.

You know what would make this sport so much more badass? If they added small launchers fitted with plastic or small rock pebbles. There are a few moments when the drones are side by side, or right behind one another. Imagine how much cooler it would be if you could shoot down your opponents by hitting their propellers with plastic or rocks from your own drone.

I want direct items and non or this wishy washy.. could may or has info about the drones.. I get make from ground up like formula one = perfection... but for that race why didnt anyone flip the giant hill climb and cause a stop with angle like many manuvers I see people do.. this raise float and.forward move was for pro standards lame... but great to watch.. loved it addicted and ready

these drones are great for the FPV view, but its more for the pilot experience than viewer experience. if you have actually seen an event live, its hard to tell whats actually going on. if they want to start attracting larger crowds, they need to have bigger drones which are easier to see, even if it means cutting the speed back a little bit.

For this type of drone racing to get wide public recognition, the drones should be much bigger, more powerful, and louder. They all look and sound like tiny...mosquito...really. The racing itself is not that exciting to watch either.

+EasyFlare They can be extremely dangerous though. If too many people are flying the frequencies could become flooded. You can get someone else's feed then you will crash. It would help to have GPS but it would add weight but it would eventually be a requirement. I'm not sure what they will do about the frequencies though if it becomes as common as a cell phone.
@grasuh
@grasuh 8 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Abelardo The frequencies are non-issues. Look at 70-size RC helis in a contest. You can see several of them in the air all the time. You need drones at least the size of those big RC helis. That's what I meant. The current drone racing should be above and beyond what the latest RC helis offer. Dangerous? Would you say F1 racing is any safer? It is all matter of research and planning.
@antdx316
@antdx316 8 жыл бұрын
EasyFlare No, the video feed frequency is different than control frequency. There are only so many available frequencies from 433, 900, 1.2/3, 2.4, 5.8. If the popularity becomes so high people will use 5.8 because 2.4 can interfere with control signal and 1.2/3 is so powerful it will drown the signal freq and cause the onboard electronics to malfunction. 433 is too long (antenna) but it could still work and 900 I'm not sure. I probably made it up. It's all about the video feed frequencies though. That's what FPV quad flying is all about. The drone engineers are trying their best to find new ways and make it public but if they cannot find anyway then we are stuck with this limit. I think they should up to higher freq and more GHz but I'm not radio master tech. There are a lot of other frequencies in use for many other things. The FCC legalizes certain bands and illegalizes others. For 1.2/3GHz, the planes uses it for DME for their navigation when they aren't using GPS. 1280MHz and something else won't interfere but anything else would. And as for being dangerous, if you lose signal from controls or video with no RTH or auto hover GPS feature then it will be like a flying projectile with trajectory or random with control mashing. Basically it's like having a rock with flight capbilities or a flying circular saw.

+Anthony Abelardo My point is it is all matter of research and planning. If there is need, of course one can (eventually) find a way to have million channels...spread spectrum or whatever. Technology can provide solution if there is compelling demand for it (repeaters, radio redundancies, etc). Safety? If F1 and NASCAR can be had "safely" than drone racing can. The MAIN problem of the drone racing is that it is currently not as attractive as many people (including you) would expect it to be. It is more of a teenagers' nerdy game which is about the level of a ghetto RC car racing...Just look that the video. I can't even see the thing! I hear some buzz...some moving tiny light...where is the drone??

EasyFlare If you knew how FPV works, talked to people who do FPV, and actually work on FPV yourself you would realize I was right. For now, it's ok to fly FPV because not many people do it. Once you get a signal feed in your quadcopter, then it flies into a busy highway, some people died and created a huge accident, they found out it's you then you will also realize what I meant about dangerous. Setting up a GPS RTH option would work but would add more weight plus take off more battery life. It's also adviseable to flying where no one and property is at. Fly over trees and water briefly to prevent it from getting missing. Also adding a beeper on a trigger free channel to local the model when it crashes w/ no spotter. Even with a spotter it would make search and rescue quick and cleaner. But can also be like fuck it, disregard everything and fly over water, people, property with no GPS RTH lock and be ok for 1000 straight flights. It's like playing roulette where you do 35 out of 36 numbers but it's more like playing 99 out of 100 numbers every single time. With adding safety and proper flying measures it goes from 99 out of 100 to like 999 out of 1000. To be honest too, I just want to fly.

djWarp6 Don't they all fly the same prebuilt drone in DRL? That sucks.
@djWarp6
@djWarp6 7 жыл бұрын
storm14k I guess it depends on how you look at it. The courses of the DRL are vastly superior and because all the drones are the same, the pilot's individual skills really matter. No one in that league can win because they showed up with the best toys. Only skill in flying counts there.
@storm14k
@storm14k 7 жыл бұрын
Problem for me at least is that it eliminates skill in building and finding innovative frame designs, motor, prop, esc combos, tuning etc. The pilots aren't tuning and building to their own style but forming their skills around a given kit.
@djWarp6
@djWarp6 7 жыл бұрын
storm14k Yeah, that's true. The one upside to that is the pilots aren't afraid to crash their drones as much so they can really push their skills and the ability of the drones.
@storm14k
@storm14k 7 жыл бұрын
I'd think at this level the pros would be flying kits given to them through sponsorships by different manufacturers. I believe the pro RC car/buggy racers work like that which is strange to me. Drone racing is getting all this pub but it seems far less organized and established than RC car racing. It seems like its being pushed artificially and HARD.
