The glory days when most Irish middle distasnce athletes where a force to reckon with on the world stage of indoor running, it wudn't be strange to see frank o mara on a 4x 400m relay team with Limerick AC and really be a big help to the team for national league competition so he had speed endurance in those legs of his running 49/50sec ish for the 400m leg. Not bad at all for a guy who wud run 800m - 5000m in his chosen events. I loved running 4 Limerick AC back in the early to mid nineties ànd being selected to run 100m to 200m at the national league finals n running against Kevin Cogley, Gary Ryan, Jeff Pamplin, TJ Kearns just to name a few in the 1s and 2s and the 4x100m relay and hated being selected for the 4x400m as I'd be knackered for the last race of the meeting n being up against so many good 400m international Athletes but I held my own n managed 50sec for my leg of the relay n keep us in contention. I loved those days of my life tho, what a great way to spend ur Sunday in amoungst so many future Olympians or world champion competitors. I just love talking about those days to younger folks n wud find out years later I was inspiration to future great sprinters Ireland has had over the last few decades 😎👍Thank for reading whoever u are!!

Amazing running from the Irish pair O'mara and Donavan :)

I saw O Meara win the schools senior steeplechase on the old black track in Limerick in 77, then return shortly to win the senior 1500 in a new record time.

Amazing. I hadn't realised that Ireland were one and two in this event. How the running landscape has changed since then!
