The wrestling was required viewing for years on a Saturday afternoon. It was best when your Granny was shouting at the ref.

I can remember watching wrestling on Saturday afternoon before the football results would come in.

I grew up on Jerry Lawler wrestling out of Memphis, and later, Georgia Championship Wrestling, which eventually became WCW. This 1970s, British wrestling reminds me of the good days of Memphis wrestling. I would say the old British wrestling was more focused on the wrestler personalities. The old Memphis wrestling was more about revenge and trying to hurt your opponent (of course in kayfabe). Now that I'm older, I'm enjoying watching these old British matches.

Les was born in 1915.... not bad for a 59 year old.

I f you knew how tough this man was, you would not say anything bad about him. these men really knew how to wrestle and brawl. most came from North England.

Mr Kellett was entertainer supreme and as hard as overdone toffee he should have also been a stage actor as well!

I can see why Les Kellett was my Dads favourite. So many different gags, stamping on toes, stepping on fingers. Being Semantical. The grumpy old man look when he's "angry" and the little schoolboy routine when the ref was telling him off. Simply genius
@Trek0017 жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen the Les Kellett vs Johnny Czeslaw match where the pair of them start on each other - Czeslaw even checks the bald refs head for hair gel! Incidentally, it became a sort of kellet tradition for the commentator to say "Good luck" to whoever was the ref for the match because everybody knew there would be no stopping Les
@Planetwatts6 жыл бұрын
Apologies for the delayed response, only just saw this reply. One of my favourites that one. Finishing one round and starting the next in the exact same position XD

Kellet the followed the same script nearly every match. Accidentally catch the ref. "Tell him about that" "The bells gone" "You told me to take my time" It became somewhat repetitive in the end.

Kentuckian here! I'm just now discovering Les Kellet. Obviously, I was not familiar with him, back in the 1970s. But, what a character and wrestler!

True, Kellett is comedy genius,catweazel is another great British comedy wrestler from that era, as for heels "crybaby" Jim Breaks is worth a watch for his tantrums lol
