I do voice work for Turtle and I'm also a player and I gotta say that I enjoy it very much as an RP/Normal server type player. I enjoy the new content that I had a small part in making, and generally the community is pretty great. We've had problems with toxicity in the past (a whole guild specifically going out of their way to be toxic in chat, target players who are in warmode, etc. but they've since been purged, or so I'm told) but I think things are better than before. The class changes are still being worked on, there's a forum post that you can find that has all of the information listed, but I believe all thats left is bug fixing. I've not had problems with Turtle WoW running in general, but I do admit some of the new quests are vauge on where certain objectives need to be completed at to which I had to use the database.

I haven't played Vanilla+ but the main thing that makes Turtle so welcoming is the community. Having people just take their time, having a really strong RP presence, wholesome stories and guilds... it makes a huge difference between it being a world and a home, rather than just a game! :)

Hardcore feels weird and scary from the outside, but once you tasted, you can never go back. It makes the game so much more fun and immersive + the community of it is the cherry on top. (You become imortal at 60, but while leveling you can't use the AH, can't group/trade with casuals or people bellow/above 5 LvLs. Yet we still run badass dungeons xd

The xp rate is just perfect on V+ its a really nice pace

V+ will do new content too, after Naxxramas they want to do Scarlet Monastery raid, new zones in Outland, new raid in Tol Barad, new raid in Uldum, new BG's, new zones etc.

Just logged on to Vanilla plus today to check server population. for anyone whos interested, peak V+ pop over the weekend and last four days was 457, a far cry from 1200 two months ago. Turtle wow peaked today at 850 with an average of 400+ people.

Awesome review of the two servers. I am currently playing on V+ and having a great time. I really like some of the changes to the classes they've made. For example I am leveling as a melee Survival hunter. Might check Turtle down the line.

I must say that BOTH of these servers are fantastic. It's a matter or taste which you will find most appealing. I highly recommend trying them both out!!

I have been playing on turtle wow for 2 years. So let me give the lay of the land good and bad and point out some things from the vid need to be pointed out. For leveling. Honestly if you are looking for a vanilla leveling experience that feels different, turtle is 100% a good place to look in to. Tons of new quests, new races, new zones (within the scope you would expect of a small private server dev team.), a new dungeon geared for leveling players and a lot of little quality of life changes. Also if you are worried about the 1x leveling pace I wouldn't be all that worried because it is only 1x officially. There is this tents system, which you can unlock by leveling the new survival profession pulled from the wow beta, and using these tents gives you rested xp super fast, and having more tents near you makes it go even faster. (Stacks up to 5) For leveling players tents is the meta, everyone organizes tent get togethers and gets full rested xp in like 20 minutes which you can get whenever. So really twow is a 2x leveling speed server disguised as a 1x level speed. And as mentioned above there is the HC mode which is a fun mode, it ends at 60 though, so once you hit 60 you are once again a normal character and you get a mount, tabard and title under your name. There is also a full transmog system in the game! It works more or less like it does in retail, though you spend tokens that you have to farm mats to get instead of buying it with straight up gold. It gets much more expensive as you level so farm out a bunch of tokens when you are still low level! Guilds of a certain size also get their very own guild halls hand made by the devs! For end game. There is a lot going on. All vanilla raids are unlocked at this point. 3 raiding guilds are in Naxx 2 EU 1 of which has naxx on farm and 1 NA guild. I think there are 5 raid groups in total though. But with twow's recent pop bloom I am really hopping that will expand as the established raid groups are pretty full now. There are also 3 new end game dungeons, I will admit they are over tuned but they are fun to experience. There is also sweeping class changes coming in the next major patch (if it doesn't get delayed again). Though I will admit, I have looked through the changes and while at first they sound good for meme specs the devs decided for what ever reason to make most these changes that would elevate these low specs the most take up debuff slots. And based on rumors I hear only one of the devs is in favor of lifting the cap so it probably isn't going to happen unless that one dev REALLY fights that uphill battle. So yeah, that is kinda jank imo. However, spec changes are not something that has happened nor have their been any major changes yet. No batches of class changes have happened as the video implies, there have been new spells added but these spells were pulled and added from beta WoW. More so there is also dual spec in the form of the goblin brain washing device for 350g, and respeccing only costs a maximum of 5g without the machine. There is also a scarlet crusade based raid in the works based on current plans. There is also new factions and reputations that aren't horrid to grind one tied to one of the new dungeons as well. And there is guild banks! And custom world bosses, one of which crashes the server. lol for pvp. I will be honest and say I am not a pvp player so I know the least on this. Keep in mind twow is a PvE server But there is a warmode system in game that give you a 30% boost to xp gained to permanently be flagged for pvp. There is also new custom battle grounds aswell as new reps with their own rewards. And in terms of pvp life I do see pvp pop fairly regularly, but the community that is there does seem very dedicated. You can also level up purely from doing BG's if you wanted to. though i will be honest and say that while they do pop under level 60 BG don't pop all that much. That is all I can remember making this atleast of things taht I consider most pressing to know when considering the server there may be more I didn't remember, so I may edit this as I remember more stuff. Hope this was informative to anyone looking to check out Turtle WoW!

Turtle WoW is thriving these days. I’d really recommend checking it out again.

Ive found a few bugs on TurtleWoW like espcially the channelled spells dysyncing or whatever be going on. Also the server has become very very laggy. You will hit lag spikes everyday but doesn't last too long. Not sure about V+. Havent played it in a while but it ran ok for me. Also the world chat can be very toxic on both servers. Be warned!!!

I just started on V+ Turtle sounds okay, but I feel like V+ offers new and welcome flavors to all classes and specs. I can't wait to level a Warrior to 60 and raid as Arms. The changes they made to the spec are awesome.

Just started on Turtle. Also lvled to 45 on Vanilla+ Turtle is way more tailored for me.

I’m also struggling to choose. I’m also leaning towards turtle wow because I really like the levelling community and I don’t have time for 3h dungeons at V+ and the community is not the same there. I really like the class changes though, and it looks like turtle will do something similar, but not as drastic changes as v+. The upcoming changes are posted on their website.

I have been on turtle wow off and on for about a year. The server has always been stable. The hardcore mode has definitely a large community behind it

I miss playing wow so much but I really don’t get much time to ply and it changes. Wonder if classic is the best way to play.

TurtleWoW is really fun, I immediatly felt a great vibe playing. Peace, immersion, people helping each other. I play without friends but I always found kind people who want to make a party and play together. :)

V+ Was a dead Server until Hamster advertise it, now they brought new content creators and should drop updates faster

I have played both and I can say if u wanna level up faster if u don't have the time like I do play vanilla + because of the xp rates and you get more xp for elite quests and dungeons

I have been playing Vanilla Plus for about two weeks and it is absolutely phenomenal. It is mind blowing what they have done to preserve the feeling of classic while fixing almost everything single class spec, and STILL balancing things to an unbelievable degree. You NEED to roll with us on this realm. Guilds are friendly, everyone is so helpful, and you are constantly seeking out groups which gives you a VERY multiplayer experience. You have to try it. Their launcher made the install sooo easy.

I honestly thought Vanilla Plus dropped off for good, nice to see its still going and is getting traction again (they were shadowed by Classic release at the time). Great server. I played upon launch but the declining population made grouping up really difficult at the time.

These are both really great servers to play on tbh. The people in comments stanning for one or the other are missing out lol.

I played on both : - Turtle Wow is PVE, so very friendly and not toxic at all. Levelling on it is slow, and you will like it if you like discovering new quests (for me, it was frustating because pfquest didn't work for those). On Turtle Wow, there is also a new profession "Survival" but I think it needs a bit rework because ppl are always searching for "tents" in world chat to level faster and the tp in arena is just...weird. The class changes are just beginning (Paladin already had the new Holy Strike) but the team seems a bit unexperienced on that work. They will need a ton of time to balance things. There is a ton of high elves everywhere compared to a few goblins. The team is good to create, but they seem to be a bit unexperienced for balancing. The good point is having an updated proper database. - Vanilla+ is the exact contrary which is interesting IMO. It is PVP, sometimes a bit toxic. There is crossfaction group and chat so it is weird to kill someone which you can group with, but ganks can happen (less than in classic). Levelling is very fast but very smooth. You find groups easily for dngeons because dungeon quests give tons of XP. Class/spec balance on Vanilla+ is absolutely crazy. This is the exact road Classic SOM should have taken. New talents but keeping the Vanilla identity of the spec, and you will love to play the spec you love, with improved gameplay and performance. Dungeons and raids on Vanilla+ are very very HARD. If Turtle Wow is slow and casual, V+ is fast and Hardcore. Some dungeons are now raids. The bad point is the team isn't good at creating things outside of the world so no database of nothing, discord will be your friend.

HAving played both I 100% love both...however XD I can't seem to figure out how to get like...two vanilla cilents so I could have both on the same computer(I'm sure there is a way but im not smart enough) so I just pick Vanilla Plus as I have helped a few firends of mine joining due to the "Easier" Nature of this server compared to Turtle which is PURE VANILLA(As far as I can remember)

There is no 1.16 client - turtle WoW uses modified executable. Vanilla+ does not, HUGE difference

Vanilla Plus is great and actually has something very new and exciting ,not just some weird looking models of elves and goblins and 2 starting zones that last for like 1 hour of gameplay.Vanilla Plus offers an amazing experience with new talents and builds.The new talents are unbelivably well made.(in fact light years ahead of original classic talents). Gameplay is pretty hard and mobs use abilities etc etc. Very fun,very professional and game changing.

I have recently been leveling on vanilla plus since I saw hamsterwheels videos on it, so far I’ve made it to lvl 50 but I’ve started to feel demotivated to log on to the server for a few reasons, the first being seemingly no guilds on the server raiding in the EU time frame as far as I can tell due to the server being majorly NA and Russian, the second is a seemingly low skill cap/player consistency when I’ve been tanking dungeons while leveling people tend to make glaring mistakes and it is sadly very common which is the same opinion I’ve been getting from other people I’ve spoken to, due to this and player consistency issues non of the current guilds are able to clear mc as far as I know the best guild is currently doing 7/10 as far as I can tell and I still haven’t seen a single person on the server with more then 1 T1 item. Third everyone wants to play meme specs due to them being an option on the server which creates a problem of not only is the server badly in need of tanks and healers but also barely anyone plays warriors rogues and mages. Fourth as also mentioned in the video the server have been out for over 3 years now and at the current phase it’s going at its honestly gonna be 8 years if not more before naxx is out which can be a bit annoying, personally a lot of the content I would like to see added would have to be added post naxx, An example of this is the ashbringer questline.

I've been on Turtle WoW for 3 months now and while it's been great the server is declining. Peak pop rarely gets over 800 now with half of those being hardcores so unable to group and trade with, the bugged flightpaths still haven't been fixed and the class rebalances are now 5 months late and they change the release date every month. I'm honestly starting to suspect that there are no developers working on Turtle WoW anymore but they're trying to cling onto the player base by not telling us. I know it'll never happen but it would be awesome if Turtle and V+ merged into one healthy server given how similar they are instead of competing for players.

I kinda like turtle WoW, but for some reason the client constantly crashes on me. Vanilla plus on the other hand has never crashed on me. And casting Wrath as a druid on V+ is so much faster and feels better. Pros and cons for sure between the two.

I recently dinged 60 on turtle but I'm pretty much done. I can't stand vanilla raiding - most monotonous boring experience outside of lvling imo - and I love vanilla pvp but the original systems are incredibly degen for gear that is simply bad compared to post naxx bis. I'd def come back if they did a pvp gear update and rework to make the grind less absurd and the gear actually on par with at least aq40. That and frankly, the 6 to 7k queues during prime time along with the lag that comes with it are really unfun. I'm looking forward to project epoch, they have plans on designing the pvp systems and gear to be competitive which is exciting.

Vanilla+ is better as a vanilla server but needs more people playing on it. Turtle has NO PVP and feels too retail (transmog), also full of dad gamers for this reason.

Do not waste your time on turtle WoW, they have heavy class favoritism directed towards priests, and actively encourage harassment/gang stalking of warmode players, which is a new feature that allows you gain 30% increased experience, but at the cost of being flagged for player versus player. This would be fine, if I wasn't consistent stalked and killed by players several levels higher than me, whenever I went to a new area. Even areas that were maintained by my faction.

did you actually play XIV or did you do the typical wow player thing and pay to skip all the content to play the newest expansion... then dropped the game before realizing you played the game wrong.

be aware that Vanilla+ is very poorly coded. Many of the custom abilities and talents don't scale properly, they are set values, so the power can really drop off. The balance is absolutely awful. That said, it runs smooth right up until you get to the janky custom mechanics of lvl 60 raids. Turtle wow is much better coded, scales better, and runs smooth. However, turtle wow is an extreme time sink. You need a lot of time to commit to it just to level. Project Ascension is more of a novelty thing, but they have a very dedicated staff. The Ascension store is very predatory and the community is extremely elitist/toxic, but they have a lot of really unique features that dramatically change the gameplay. It is very very easy from a pve standpoint and the high risk is all but dead. Revelation WoW is probably the most customized but it is fresh and unfinished and bug riddled. Playing Revelation is a chore, and only recommended if you want to contribute to the testing and actively assist devs in making a solid experience, but you will find it very difficult to enjoy. If I were to recommend a server, I could only recommend turtle wow, if you are looking for a solid/polished experience. Turtle also has the best community in my opinion. The people are very helpful and friendly. I haven't reached lvl 60 on turtle wow though, so I can't say anything about gameplay beyond lvl 45. I just don't have the kind of time to level a character at that rate.

Jesus, turtle really blew up. Its a shame because the class changes in vanilla+ were great but i see why turtle won the most players in the end. Hope they make some more class changes in the future. What do you think about project epoch? Be interesting to see a video about the beta from you!
