Smoking is bad for your health - and so is being on fire, which is what this ship is all about. Well, setting others on fire, really.

Thanks for the review Terry! 😊I got this ship yesterday. In close and mid range, his AP is good enough. But when the range gets beyond 12km, her penetration is just intolerably low. So my strategy is to shoot AP within 12km, spam HE beyond 12km. 😀

I find that the AP, at least without APCS, is really just useful against cruisers, and actually DDs at range, since the pen is low enough that it doesn't overpen (provided you can hit them).

I honestly think Marlborough is an early look of the second british battleship line that pc version is working out. If I am right, this could be disastrous. First off, Thunderer is mostly a battlecruiser, I think Marlborough is too and we all know what happens to battlecruisers at later teirs. Cough Cough Stalingrad and Constellation Cough Cough.

Interesting theory. I haven't played the RN BB tree enough to say how much they differ in style, but they're technically already more or less BCs, they'd have to be seriously Fisher'd to be even more lightly armoured

Great review! I got pretty lucky this weekend and won Marlborough and the “War Paint” camo in 10 crates. With Nelson as a commander, this thing goes from “meh” to “fun” (despite the mediocre main guns it’s competing with Benham for highest average damage amongst all the ships I own). Accuracy is trollish - deleted a full-health Shimakaze with a single salvo then only got one shell on target when firing at a Montana with the next. Accuracy/Manoeuvrability/Concealment build seems to work for me, but may have to experiment! If the main gun damage gets a buff - even if it only puts it on par with King George V - it’ll be a pretty good ship even with a standard commander.

I wonder how Marlborough would fight against battleships with 457mm guns that has great fire and flooding resistance such as Vermont and Ohio. IMO, Marlborough is a juicy target for any T10 battleships because it doesn't have enough main battery range to fight at long range.

Same problem for most British BBs, really. She's basically got the same armour stats (that we can see) as Lion. Positioning is key, and you can, to a degree, HP tank. And burn them down, because your guns will leave barely a scratch on the paint otherwise.

@@FunandGameswithTerry , Marlborough's armour is quite questionable. She has the worst Torpedo Damage Reduction and Damage Reduction for a tier 9 Battleship. When compared with her stats, Iowa looks like a heavily armoured Battleship. (just with the stats).

If you look at citadel protection and damage reduction (which matter against shellfire), she's got the same values as Lion, which makes sense, since the hulls are pretty similar. The British BB line is not known for its armour...

I literally got the ship yesterday, mate 😁 I only have time to record reviews on the weekend, so the earliest you're going to see a new ship is the week after I get my hands on it.

Hey terry how bad would it be say you end up facing a musashi in this ship because if im correct musashi's deck armor can shatter most large caliber HE and well musashi can just ignore this ships armor

HE doesn't quite work the same way like on PC. In Blitz, HE can either do a full penetration, or a semi-pen for 50% damage. The alpha damage on those shells is on the low side, so it's all about the fires. Large calibre BB AP will hurt, and in T9, she faces a lot of it, so you'll try to stay 1:1, get fires going and stay at max range, which reduces the penetration of incoming AP.

Not worth the money. And thats good. I dont need that much HE Spammern. I noticed it becomes harder to get these ships without real money. Im used to getting an event presented where you can buy key from tokens and usually there are many was to get keys for the crates. But this time (and the last few times) you can get 1 key without real money. And you need to do a lot for that one key. There was a 7 mission line for respawn this time just for one key for the weakest crate. Also there were a lot of rental ships the last time. They are just annoying because you get noobs with unequipped ships in high tier battles. Theres no other use for these Also may i ask wich dlcs you are using in your current hoi4 japan run? I got the game (with all dlcs) now for myself and there quiet a lot of dlcs. Im just curios.

I've never paid much attention to events myself, since I usually never have the time to invest. But dangling a carrot in front of everyone's nose and then requiring a lot of gambling isn't a great style - I'll have to run some numbers next time. Congrats on joining the HOI4 time sink 😁 we have a channel on discord. I'm playing with all available DLCs, i.e. up to and including "no step back". The DLCs add a lot of depth imo, but it can also be quite overwhelming at first.

@@FunandGameswithTerry thats what i hate about wowsb's typical events. So far in 4 years' wowsb lifetime as far as my memory serves theres only 1 design for those events: players need to grind a lot, then top up the remaining insufficient currency for the main prize with gambling. I h a t e that kind of design.

I just made it to KGV and I have Duke of York as well. Lately the premiums coming out haven't been spectacular. I did get Veribus Unitus from the shipyard but I think Gulio Cesare is far superior at that tier.

GC is still pretty darn powerful, but I liked the Viribus when she came out. No HP, but the guns were fun at range, if I remember correctly

I don't know why but nowadays I feel many German battleship players are too afraid to play a little aggressively and prefer to snipe from long range. Even they're so scared to capture the area, especially in Asia server.

Asia is "campground zero", especially in higher tiers. NA is often a lot more flexible. Playing a German BB at range is wasting half its potential.

@@FunandGameswithTerry yeah, I've even met a player who uses Gneisenau on the golden channel and he prefers to broadside and snipe enemies from outside the capture area till we lose even though I've spammed him with a capture command for a minute

A british 'battleship' with 16 tier V main gun calibre. In t9. Which will be more often than not forced to face t10 battles. Not going to spend any money to buy this ship, much lest to gamble for this thing.
