I've been loathing the grind up to the Yamato, but it turns out, the Amagi can actually be fun, if played more to the "cruiser" than the "battle" aspect.

Love the realistic commands and reports at the beggining! Maybe you can try to do a realistic engagment recreating some interesting ww2 one? Sink the bismarck, or explosion of the hood, something like that!!

Man if Amagi is really not a great ship the other tier 8's must be amazing. I love my Amagi, plunging fire on decks gets citadels all the time. Great video Terry, agreed tactics are everything!

Tier 8 has some excellent BBs - Bismarck, the whole premium range, Roma, Richie, Odin, Tirpitz

Good and well needed video. My opinion is similar to yours. I agree her armor is poop and she’s a battle cruiser…but her guns aren’t bad. They are like the Bamas guns. They are super effective on plunging fire to other bbs. I’ve done citadel crisis on NCs with those at max range.

I really like the IJN 410s, already on the Nagato, they were great hole-punchers. Amagi trades armour for another turret, but if managed correctly, I can still play similar to Nagato, but more carefully. Given the dispersion, I'm not leaning towards ranged sniping, mid-range works a lot better for me. I'm curious to see if that changes up with Izumo, who's also got a bad rep as a damage pinata, plus is facing T9 mm.

I was doing school, but Terry uploaded so that has to wait. I never used Amagi and I am considering getting Black Amagi, If I don't get enough steel for Somers. It can't be that hard, I own Ashitika and obtained Kii. Despite being a Battlecruiser in design, I play Kii and Ashie as Distant BBs inching forward.

Ashitaka is a tier 7 Amagi, pretty much. So just imagine that with more tier 8 opposition, and the occasional T9 game. Nagato was better in my opinion - I'm keeping that one - but it's not as dreadful as I thought it would be. Definitely not the best T8 out there, and utterly outclassed by the premiums or e.g. Bismarck, but playable.

I really like Amagi as T8 tech tree BB especially if using Tiger Camo. That camo kinda "fixed the problem" of Amagi guns

Ah really? I don't think I can get event camos in port, but I'll have a look if it happens to be there on my press account, as long as it doesn't look too atrocious :)

@@FunandGameswithTerry actually it just 1% dispersion better if compare to Roar Of Steel camo. But it makes guns shells little bit narrow-ish better at around 8-10km

I have Yamamoto on my amagi I’m trying to also get the Yamato i like my amagi but it was surprising how the armor just changed after I got used with nagato I only have one tier 10 and that is the Montana which by the way the buffs it received a few patch’s ago really helped it

T8-9 are exhausting to grind but its so worth it once you got yamato

The IJN line was the first one I played, but stopped at Nagato back then, because the German CLs were added. Just started again recently with Yamamoto at the helm

I think I got Yamamoto with the Ashitaka bundle waaaay back. Maybe he'll go on sale again at some point. I've gotten Sansonetti recently as well, but yeah, training takes a loooong while

I've found her to be better since she got her armour buff, not getting chunked off 15+ percent of your hp every time you make a mistake

only if a destroyer would rush like that... for me, usually what i get is, the dd goes full speed ahead and bow tanks, until in point blank range, then it turns and outruns my turrets, thus dropping the torps

DD vs BB is a fascinating matchup, because it comes down to two tactics, both of which are a hard counter to each other. If you expect a torpedo drop, you need to be bow-in. If you expect a rush, you need to kite, or broadside-blast for maximum firepower. The problem is, you don't know which one it'll be until it's too late to change. In a way, it's like a keeper during a penalty - you choose your corner, and if you're lucky & can read the signals, you can pull off a save. Sorry, world cup is on 😁

I never understood why the Kii isn’t the tech line tier 8 Japanese battleship. The Kii is actually a well armored fast battleship that would be more suitable for the line. She would be more of a natural predecessor to the nagato in that you wouldn’t have to drastically change your play style like with the amagi when you get to tier 8. In my opinion the Kii should be the tech line battleship and the amagi should be the premium tier 8, since she’s a battlecruiser with a play style much different from her predecessor. Amagi isn’t a bad ship by any means but she simply doesn’t belong in the tech line.

hmm i just hv the kii. Strange enough, i do not hv the amagi lol... i usually snipe in the kii due to the poor armor and she's pretty good for me. The only differences I find between the kii and the amagi is the AA, the torps and somewhat improved armor and dispersion although I'm not super sure about the last two XD

Amagi to me is probably the second weakest of the silver T8 BBs, only beaten by vladivostok But she can still have her moments, you can meme people pretty hard with a heavy broadside that isnt held back by a painful reload like kansas Kinda like lyon Both ships can be frustrating but there are those silly moments where you cant help but love them at those moments

I've had 20k damage and 100k+ damage games in both, I think the Lyon comparison is a good one.

Yes, but Lyon has 16 of them. The trick is getting close enough that even Lyon can't miss, and at close range, they can be surprisingly effective

Unlike in PC, regular captains here don't get that skill, only some legendary ones. In this case it's Yamamoto, he's on the IJN BBs.

Idk, I've seen a lot of planes "jumping" around, e.g. getting out of trouble once they spotted AA. Pretty sure there are still CV exploits going on, or maybe just plain old lag. Either way, the CV could have chosen to kill me or the DD, but he would have been killed by the respective other, and since CVs are more valuable... He tried to get us both and clutch the win, but I think the best option would have been to kill me (easy target) and try to dodge the torpedo drop. Can't dodge shells at that range...

Interesting, I would have thought the L50s would have a higher muzzle velocity. Maybe the target armour is just good enough to more than compensate for that? But yeah, she's got a bit of a bad rep

@@FunandGameswithTerry if you play her right she is an absolute monster. I have gotten games where I have done over 140k on the izumo. But most of the time I get like 70k. So far I have gotten over 150 games on her , she is good but she does have her weaknesses.

I think Izumo is the first of the "sniper" BBs in the line, so more like Yama training. You see this kind of switch with others sometimes, e.g. Roon is the range switch and Hindi prep.
