World of Warships Blitz - Großer Kurfürst after 5.2

In the last update, the mighty GK had some changes made to her - bigger, infuriatingly ahistorical guns, and a nerf to her secondaries. How did that change her? Does that still allow for an aggressive playstyle in tier 10, or has she been pushed towards the mainstream? Let's find out.

Nice, I've been working towards the GK for a while now and was worried about the update ruining the ship, which would be my first T10 battleship. Hopefully in a week or two, I'll have enough silver to finally get her.

Nice! It's one of my favourite battleships, and if you're comfortable with the Freddy, she's really a straight upgrade.

Rn im currently at FDG (well, grinding. 7.7 million silver) and im thinking of going full force into getting GK since, she would probably slap hard with those fast rld 457mm guns

Freddie got the GK's old guns, so that might actually change things there as well. The 420s were very good guns already at T10, but I haven't tried them on the downgrade.

I don't have any tier 10 ships yet. My favorite tier 9 BB is the Friedrich. I would love to get the Yamato for historical value but I'm really not liking the grind to get there.

I'm grinding Amagi atm, and it would be ok if not for the middle turret bug. Looking forward to Izumo, actually. Very curious to see how she plays.

@@FunandGameswithTerry better than amagi. The guns are all in the front wich help with the dispersion. But you keep these stupid turning guns. The 3rd turret is sometimes very annoying

Great video, I got the Kurfürst recently, maybe you remember our talk on the Freddy and that I try to get the Kurfürst, still like this ship a lot. She is really strong, maybe the brawling side is not that great anymore. But you can compensate the change and as someone mentioned below: it allows you to play on range if brawling is not a good strategy. Also more citadels I would expect. So I think it depends. Overall I still really really like to play her. I couldn't test her out with the better mod that much, but I still see, why this ship is extremely powerful as a brawler.

457mm GK looks nasty, although her secondaries got toned down, in return her effective engagement range got increased she doesnt quite need to get into a straight up brawl, she can still do a number on enemies around mid-range engagements Btw in the first battle, the brawl against the GK would have been won if you turned off auto-aim and targeted turrets instead, even though GK's AP pen has been beefed up significantly with the changes, penning another GK's belt is still extremely unreliable Aiming turrets not only makes it easier to score full-pens, but also give you a chance to break their guns to further swing the fight in your favor And also turning off auto-aim will prevent your shells from going into the belt making it easier to aim turrets

Hey Terry Nice play! For me personally I value the increased range of the main Guns (from 14.89km to 15.03km) more than the buffed penetration power. While I was happy about this, some of my friend reminded me that the Ohio got a buff on range as well 😂 and it’s from 16.28km to 16.93km. That means, if that Ohio in your video keeps a distance from you and keep brawling your GK ( in this case it’s easier to hit GK’s citadel since its horizontal armour is less thicker), the situation would have been more complicated. I feel like they are “scaling up” the whole game by buffing the range of all ships and by creating larger maps. Which indicates this game will very much resemble the PC WOWS one day?

Yes, the very moment I killed the DD, Ohio lost her screen. To be fair, you'd usually not expect that to happen, but what people often forget is that a GK can tank most DDs. Ohio accepting the brawl was a death sentence, unless he got extremely lucky. That's why I didn't even bother shooting him on the run-up into secondary range.

So it seems my suspicion was right in that armor isn’t modeled in game properly. At that close range in the first battle, you shouldn’t have been able to citadel that enemy GK.

Yep, 5.2 was the last one. My personal favourite would be Odin, followed by GK. If I was going lower tiers, 7 would be Scharnhorst, and 6 Prinz Eitel Friedrich. That isn't to say that the tech tree ones are bad, just haven't played them in a while.

So i randomly got the space camo for the GK and repurchased her. My lord does it make it feel so much more dangerous. i didn’t know what i was missing with the secondary build.

Well at tier 10 you’d think people would know how to play…. Honestly at tier 7-8 you’d think that. I had a tier 7/8 game yesterday where my Kaga driver waited a full 2 minutes while steaming full reverse to send the first flight of planes. I had to send a flight out in Tone to scout

Finally unlocked this ship after a long hard slog - skipped the FdG to go straight to GK because of blueprints, and getting the free xp took a while. The upshot is I’ve maxed my von Hipper on the way and have tons of commander xp so I could retrain him just with excess xp too 😂 Having played ships like Odin (or it’s Cross of Dorn variant) and Tirpitz more than the Bismarck I must admit I missed the torpedos, but those auto secondaries are still pretty good. Picked secondary specialisation as well to maximise the effectiveness. At first I chose the same setup as I have for my t8 ships, ie maximise turret traverse and traverse acceleration for steering, but will have to see how that works with the GK - deck protection may be a necessary choice at t10 though 😂 Now I have to see what line to start grinding next as well…

From what I've heard, and my own testing, the deck protection module doesn't do anything measurable: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rr5doMV1kpnRlKc.html I would go with full secondary build tbh. I'm planning to do a GK vs Schlieffen video soon, otherwise maybe the Italians next? Yama is good as well, and I'll have an Izumo review tomorrow

@@FunandGameswithTerry Yeah, the GK is a bit tougher to play against DDs at t10 than the Odin or Bismarck are at t8 as t10 DDs do have a lot more torpedos, but in a few of the early games I’ve managed to sink some DD players trying to rush me expecting to find an easy target. A secondary build could help a bit with that too, though I know the auto secondaries can struggle if the destroyer manoeuvres a lot. As for next lines to grind, the Japanese BB line, or the Italian BB or heavy cruiser lines are among the ones I’m considering - from your review the Venezia does look like a pretty fun ship to play. Though I find some of the t7 and t8 Japanese BBs (I have the Hyuga and Ragnarok, basically an Amagi with the Warhammer skin) harder to play when you’re used to the speed and manoeuvrability of German BBs, especially with that mid-turret bug - admittedly I probably also haven’t quite adapted to the fact that you need to sit further back. But the Yamato is one of those ships I would absolutely love to get my hands on.

They are both good but the Colombo has a softer armor than GK I manage to citadel x3 it in 7km

I have been watching this for some time now (I keep on watching it because I need info for the line I'm grinding) BUT ONLY THIS TIME I REALIZED THAT THE "DES MOINES" IN THE LOBBY HAVE A GERMAN FLAG😂

Yeah, it's a known bug - I think it's related to favouring ships, which get pinned to the start of the port, but then when you filter for certain things, the background flags get mixed up.

Great video Terry, I must say in my opinion the nerfed secondaries are some what better at hit dd just due to them spreading more and also as you said the guns although not historically accurate do slap hard, like the game I had the other day where I hit 227k damage and a total of 447 secondaries hits which did slightly over 78k in damage, and to let anyone know, no there was no bots in the game

It always depends on how obliging the enemy team is, but yeah, 100k is relatively easy to achieve, those weren't outliers.

You can sell and re-purchase if you want other elite bonus.. in t10 that’s expensive but hey what is credits nowadays Still the german brawlers are fun, but not meta .. cant win cause your in a bismarck but only occasionally use the situation… well most are not mentally abled to fulfill their role and think going along map border is a tactic or whatever..

I only used Kurfürst after 5.2 and she is the best teir 10 I ever had. Well, I only had Yueyang before hand.

I've tested a few T10 BBs, and GK just works for me, and how I like to play. It might also depend on the server a bit, T10 on Asia can be more campy than on NA (lots of Yamas)

I had someone laugh at me for using HE in German BB’s, even when on DD’s they said you NEVER use HE on German ships lol glad to see I’m not the only one who does it. Yea German HE generally sucks but there is a time and place for it in german BB, DD and CA’s lol. You just need half a brain.
