And I just got myself the Benham! Do I have regrets, now that there's a tier 10 USN DD out? Well, let's take a look.

For any of those people interested in this fact there was this destroyer in the video called sommers but there was also a destroyer called somner. If you look at the tier 10 pan Asian destroyer you can see it’s a somner class. The sommers is a completely different class from the gearing and somner. This is just for clarification as these destroyers can be mixed up as a result of them just all looking similar (except for sommers but that’s not the point). I hope you learned something!

*Sumner. Allen M. Sumner classes, basically a very early Gearing that actually participated in the war.

Yeah, but that's a non-standard / event camo. I try to use a "standard" set for reviews, since I want to make it representative of what most players will have. That's why it's usually either the historical, or the silver camo.

Hey Terry, I noticed when you were comparing the Somers to the Gearing you had a camo pattern on the Somers but not the Gearing. How much difference did that make?

Good point, I should really equalize them. The camo gives 3% HP and -3% detection. Marginal difference, it's my default DD camo, if I don't have historical. In terms of HP / detection, Somers has lower HP than Gearing, but slightly better detection. Which makes sense for a torpedo boat.

It was good one . And I'll be happy to continue till Gearing from my Mahan. But I'd be interested to know the story how USS Omaha and USS Somers got that transport ship

Hey Terry for future reviews can you show the battle honor missions? I’m curious about a lot of these higher tier ships’ missions and obviously most players will never see them

Good point - haven't checked, but I was under the impression that you could see the honour missions in the ship view while it's still in the crate. I'll definitely try to remember to include those.

Comes in a gamble box scheme with the same price tag as the 1st offer of stalingrad gamble box, this thing is outrageously expensive. For me Benham is clearly the better premium DD choice to keep playing on than this blitz version of Somers, and I find British DD line suits me best for the standard tech tree DD. I have no need for other DD for now, at least until they later port in the pan Euro DD line. If the port is a watered down version of the pc version, then i am not interested to grind either.

Well it's not a Farragut, the guns & torps have obviously been improved when it comes to range and damage. Personally, and that's based purely on stats, I'd take the Gearing, if I wanted a top-tier USN DD - her guns put out more damage, her torps are comparable (only two less, but faster and better damage), and she has some AA. I've still got my eyes set on the Pan-Asian line. Is Somers a terrible ship? No. Is she a great ship? IMO, also no - I'd say she's on the average side.

This ship a large us dd before gearing. But somers torpedo similar like sims and benham, its slow, but quite annoying.

Sorry, that's my press account - all ships unlocked there. I use it to review premiums I don't have, but I don't review tech tree ships until I've got them unlocked in my private account, as to not spoil the game for myself :)

I have no idea how viable DD AA is in tier 10... can a Gearing with defensive AA up make a dent into tier 10 bombers?

Somers is a Better Gearing but with else FirePower, AA very Crap and Torpedoes Are very Decent but Somers is a Better Gearing.

Somers has a torpedo alpha of 47916, Gearing has 45980, with faster torps, better range and better flooding chance. Somers has slightly better concealment, is faster, and slightly more manoeuvrable than Gearing. Gearing has better guns, has AA, and gets the defensive AA consumable on top of what Somers has. Gearing, at least on paper, looks like a good multirole DD. Somers is more of a torpedo boat, and should avoid gunfights on a even footing. Her guns are somewhat useful to finish off low-health ships, or to set fires while waiting for the torps to reload.
