No, it's not. The calendar does not end exactly, it's just the end of a chapter. Since the Mayans are no longer around, they cannot add the second chapter that they were supposed to.

It is only the Mayans. Other than astronomy (seriously, not that advanced compared to ancient Greece, Middle East, and Asia), what else do they contribute? Apparently through translations, the calendar we widely used is slightly wrong and technically this year (2020) should be 2012. I don't know how true that is but it sure would explain a lot
