Dan demonstrates his Actively Aerated Compost Tea brewer and shows how he makes AACT to get the best dirt possible! You can make your own "Actively Aerated Compost Tea" (AACT) brewer like this simple model he demonstrates. By brewing compost tea and using compost tea on your garden soil, you will improve yields, have healthy rich soil, healthy microbial life and amazing soil biology! Watch the video to see the compost tea recipe!

Yes. Hardwood (not coniferous) sawdust or chips are great for composting, but dad uses it in his garden walkways and paths to keep weeds away, plus it looks nice!

Great informational video!!! I absolutely love learning from gardeners who have as much experience as your dad. I would just say as far as video ideas, just keep filming what he does throughout the season! You can always add videos in about specific stuff but the things he's actually doing day to day are wonderful to know. Most importantly just keep the videos coming, we will enjoy them all! Edit: Also, I know it's probably a pain.. but putting the text on videos as you've been doing is really helpful! Personally I like taking screenhots of the info so I dont have to go back and try to find the exact point in the video where he says the info. Thanks again!

Excellent point! We don't have chlorinated water, so didn't think to mention it. You can also leave it out in a bucket for 24 hrs. or so and the chlorine will gas off and then you can use the water.

I did something similar to yours years ago and it worked good. I got a five gallon bucket added a little bit of my compost, in a stocking, and extras like you did. Then I got a pump, tubing and an oxygen stone, like they use in fish tanks. It was like having a fish tank really. It was well oxygenated and very foamy.

You have to be careful about using compost because you can end up multiplying the bad bacteria,but as long as it smells good it's probably OK at least but may not contain optimal bacteria and fungi.

I see a lot of videos that they apply it to the foliage but you are one of the few I see that apply it directly to the soil.

I find that I get a better response by applying it to the soil,I'm always hesitant to do foliar since it leaves a coating on the leaves which after a few sprays you get a build up that inhibits photosynthesis I believe. Have a blessed day!

Just discovered your channel and love it! Your genuine connection and homesteading journey are truly inspiring. Thanks for sharing your dad's wisdom too - it's a real treat! Wishing you all the best on your journey ahead. FWIW, here are a couple suggestions id recommend to improve quality of content: Shorter videos could help keep viewers engaged. The 30-minute one felt a bit lengthy. Maybe breaking it down into smaller segments could work better. Using a single-shot approach sounds like a good idea. It could give more time for detailed walkthroughs and improve overall quality.

Thank you for your feedback! What do you think of our latest video on planting tomatoes? It's around 50 minutes long. If you don't mind, please let us know what you think after watching. We may try making new short videos for each topic as the season progresses, but multiple videos take longer to make on the front end. Open to ideas. 😊

Took me a while to realize how important is to get all chlorine out of the brew first. Its put in your water to kill all bacteria etc. So besides the brewed container I always have another container if I want to dilute the mix both buckets chlorine free.

The old way of making compost tea was without a pump and many found it affective just by nature of being a more soluble form of natural plant feed. It can also be made with weeds from your land, compost, safe animal manures and such. Just talked to a gal that made her own with her chicken manure and water soaking it for days & diluting it so it wasn’t too rich in nitrogen to burn plants. Her grape starts (from spring cuttings) had some of the deepest roots and her husband had a challenge digging them up to transfer! There are a lot of methods and you don’t have to spend money, but can use what is available on your own property. His method is a SUPER tonic, but don’t give up if you aren’t equipped as he is. Trial and error are a part of every gardening project, enjoy!

Haven't used AACT yet although I did oxygenate the water by putting a large 1/2 hp into a 60 gal. barrel at the side and created a vortex. It seemed to work O.K. Now to Dan's video..nothing short of remarkable!! It had to take experimentation. thought, skill and work to make this device. Wondering how often you use tea on tomatoes? I've already started looking for spare parts first to build a similar device. hope I can pull it off right. What pump size do you use? I liked everything about this video, two thumbs up.✝
@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork
@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork 8 ай бұрын
How often i use th tea on tomatoes just depends on what I think they need,there's no set schedule for tea. The pump is a 793 gph at 18 watts so very little energy used,my big brewer that makes 20 gallons at a time uses 2300gph pump,maybe that'll help you size what you need.

I can't honestly say but I know it wouldn't hurt them at all,just don't know how much of a help it might be,I'd say if you've used any synthetic fertilizer on your roses that this tea would be very beneficial, if you have been practicing strick organic gardening on your roses I think it'd still help but not be as noticeable as if you had been using synthetic fertilizer. So there's a good reason we don't use "compost" in the compost tea. Compost can have bad or undesirable microbes in it and if multiplied in a tea(no good way to ensure only good biology thrives) and applied to plants, can have a negative effect on the plant's health. That is why we use worm castings - which in one sense is compost - but it's only high quality compost with much less bad biology in it. We want to multiply the good microbiology found in worm castings, which is usually an extremely beneficial part of compost. Hope this helps! Happy gardening! 😊
